Ben.Cheng
Hi everyone, I created a USB installer using Apple’s official InstallAssistant.pkg, and used it to perform a clean installation (not an upgrade or Time Machine restore) of macOS Tahoe 26 on an NVMe SSD. With Beta 1, everything worked fine — I was able to install and boot into the system successfully. However, starting from Beta 2 (currently on Beta 3), I consistently run into an issue where the installer gets stuck at "About 17 minutes remaining" and never proceeds. Interestingly, if I install macOS Tahoe on any SATA SSD, the installation completes without any issues. My setup: - CPU: Intel i7-10700K - Motherboard: GIGABYTE Z490 VISION G - RAM: 32GB x2 DDR4-3600 - NVMe SSDs tested: Samsung 970 EVO / WD PC SN730 - OpenCore: 1.0.5 with SMBIOS: iMac20,1 This configuration works perfectly from macOS Big Sur 11 through Sequoia 15, as well as macOS Tahoe 26 Beta 1. I’ve tried various combinations to troubleshoot the issue, including: - Switching between different versions of OpenCore, Lilu, and WhateverGreen - Install on the NVMe SSD via connected with USB Type-C adapter - Changing SMBIOS to MacPro7,1 - Installing with and without NVMeFix.kext Unfortunately, the installer still freezes at "About 17 minutes remaining" every time when using an NVMe SSD. As a workaround, I currently install the macOS Tahoe 26 Beta 2/3 on a SATA SSD, then use Disk Utility to restore the installation back to the NVMe SSD, which allows me to bypass the installation freeze in Beta 2 and 3. Is there a proper fix for this issue? Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. I've attached screenshots of the issue and my config.plist for reference. Thanks in advance! Edit: Apologies for not explaining things clearly in my original post. Here are some additional details: I have already updated Lilu, AppleALC, WhateverGreen, VirtualSMC, SMCProcessor, and SMCSuperIO to their latest Release versions. Please disregard the version comments in Kernel -> Add -> XXX.kext/Comment. I have set the MaxKernel version to 24.99.99 for all BCM94360 Wi-Fi–related kexts: IOSkywalkFamily, IO80211FamilyLegacy, AirPortBrcmNIC, AMFIPass, as well as the Kernel -> Block -> com.apple.iokit.IOSkywalkFamily entry. WhateverGreen and AppleIGC also have their MaxKernel set to 24.99.99. Theoretically, setting MaxKernel = 24.99.99 should prevent these kexts from being loaded on macOS Tahoe (Darwin >= 25.0.0). Even with the boot-args including -lilubetaall, these kexts should not be active. I will also try completely removing the related kexts from Kernel -> Add later to see if that makes any difference. config.plist.zip Edited July 19, 2025 by Ben.Cheng Additional Notes Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/361162-pre-release-macos-tahoe/page/106/#findComment-2837400 Share on other sites
laobamac_yyds
It will automatically restart after 1-3 hours, you just need to wait. First, the OpenCore EFI (kext, driver, boot, etc.) should be updated. Wi-Fi/BT kexts should not be used in the installation. Note: This may be personal, but I'd be suspicious if I have a Samsung NVMe. Especially the 970 EVO. I've seen it freeze a few times when used with another NVMe. Even though Samsung has released firmware for this series, it's still available. 1 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/361162-pre-release-macos-tahoe/page/106/#findComment-2837408 Share on other sites

Still, happy to hear you were patient enough to see it through. Enjoy. Like you I get impatient but sometimes if I reboot back into the installer it doesn't hang the 2nd or 3rd time. This worked for me in beta 1, beta 2 there was no wait at all - took about 5 minutes all up. 3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/361162-pre-release-macos-tahoe/page/106/#findComment-2837429 Share on other sites
