Lots of us have been computer users for many years. And we are probably using XP, Vista, Linux, Mac OS X 10.4/10.5 today. But remember back, what was your very first operating system that you used? Or remember using most.

I'll say that mine is Windows 98 SE. I just remember in 1998 and until late 2005 I was using 98 on my many, many different PCs (Compaqs and other brands I don't know if exist anymore). It was reliable and I only switched to XP (Mac OS X 10.4 and Vista know) because I got a new Dell.

Remember, the OS you remember using most. It may have not been the exact first but the one you remember is fine.

Sorry about the very long poll

The first computer I ever touched was a Commodore 64, then the Macintosh's in computer classes in elementary school but my first real OS would be Win95 :D

Lol... so you're my long lost twin. Commodore 64 -> System 8 -> Win 3.1 / 95 / 98 / ME / 2000 / XP / Vista -> OS X 10.3 -> OS X 10.4 -> OS X 10.5 :P

My computer history

First computer I used had punch cards for input and white and green computer paper for output. The following year, we had terminals with real CRT's to type at. A few years later, bought my first computer - a TRS-80. So, my first DOS was TRS-DOS later replaced by NewDOS and others for the TRS-80. Atari's, Commodores and finally the original 1984 128K Mac followed.

The first computer we had in our home was the Osbourne executive "portable" dual 5-1/4 drives and sporting a 5" mono screen, CPM was the OS. The first one I personally owned was a commodore Vic-20 I don't remember what they called the OS. My Dad once showed a machine he used at work called th PDP11 it had a series of switched for binary input and it would spit out a tape with the punches.

I used apple IIe at school sometimes. the first I bought myself was a Mac Plus, got it broken and had to crack open the case and fix the power connection to the logic board. I had a few different boot floppies, the oldest was System 1.5 I believe, it was crazy. Eventually I sangged a massive 17.6 MB hard drive and got a free copy of system 6.0.8 from apple, they were giving it away because system 7 was out. 6.0.7 was requried to use my shindy new Style Writer printer.

Well, the year was 1984 (1st year of primary school) and I don't really know what OS it was. But I do remember there was an Apple. And maybe there was an Apricot, too. Too foggy.. ;)

it was 1993 when my dad came home with a computer a Amd386 (40hz of power) runing Dos.

i guess it was the end of 1993(dont remember exacly) when we upgrade it to an Amd486 (60hz runing and with turbo on 100hz) with win3.11 for workgroup.

Then in 1995 was the "boom" of Pc´s with Win95 .i guess you know the next Os´s that were release after.

So i was born with microsoft tho i dislike them but in the past it was fairly good to me until winMe.

The first computer I used was my dad's Packard Bell Win 95. Since then, it has been a progression through the Windows.

The first OS I owned was Tiger - lol

I only got my Powerbook a year ago

windows 95! yay!

Me too :D i used it until xp was in sp2ish era (maybe sp1...) and then finally bought a new pc although that one could run xp (like {censored}...). and unlike most people never had a crash or anything in it (and i used it, alot.) did you joseafus (or anyone else for that matter)?

and it was on

64mb ram

300mhz pentium (III i think...)

not sure about harddrive space

broke the front power button by pressing it too hard (had to leave it on and use the powersurge protector strip to turn it on/off)

oh, and it is the most stereotypical beige box ever (although its white... but close enough)

and on a pseudo off topic thing, really good thread trav1085, it was a good idea just as long as there is no fanboy flames (witch everyone has stayed away from so far  ) :thumbsup_anim: :thumbsup_anim:

zx spectrum >commodore64>amiga500>dos

and... win 3.x is not an OS

Cool! i love how you had a commodore64, my grandpa did! :thumbsup_anim: and what was the zx spectrum like?

oh, and on the 3.x thing, heres what i googled and got.

OVERVIEW

Released in 1990, Microsoft Windows 3.0 was a revolutionary operating system for the PC as one of the most used GUI operating systems.

Later Windows 3.1 was released in 1992 by Microsoft and was one of the first major PC GUI operating systems widely used. Windows 3.1 allowed users to utilize several features previously not available in MS-DOS. Some of these new features were the use of a mouse which allowed the user to navigate and manipulate data on the computer with one hand simply and easily and now did not have to memorize MS-DOS commands. In addition to the mouse, Windows now allowed the user to multitask, meaning the user could now run multiple applications at once without having to close out of each program before running another. Windows along with other GUI operating systems are one of the many reasons computers have become easier and more widely used.

NONE of the above.

Apple DOS for Apple II, did the Radio Shack Tandy TR80 Color have an OS?

Then DOS, don't remember the version.

it used ether OS-9 or DECB (Disk Extended Color BASIC), but im not sure if DECB was a full os, but more than likely you used OS-9 on that :)
