Gonna try this today with my Intel set up.

Presume it need to add adgpmod=pikera as I'm running a 5700XT?

*EDIT* ok so with my old EFI & updated to the latest F12 bios with your bios settings my hack wont boot with 4G Encoding enabled.

Secondly with your EFI & 4G Enconding enabled & adgpmod=pikera  added to boot args it hangs on boot at RadeonSensor............hmmmm

Sorry but, what EFI you try? The 2 EFI i've posted is not universal...they are made for user i've answer, with usbmap etc related to their hardware... 🙂 Btw, if you have AMD rx 5xxx or 6xxx serie's , with MacPro7,1 smbios, you don't need whatevergreen kext and agdpmod pikera bootargs...if you use weg, you need to use bootargs too...

If you have issue with 4g option enabled, you have to set PCI bar to disabled in BIOS and/or pull off battery for CMOS reset..

ReEFI I'm trying the second one you posted for Panos as his setup (apart from GPU) is similar to mine.

Noted re MacPro7,1 smbios & WEG kext, I'll have a look and disabled WEG kext & remove adgpmod boot arg if required.

Panosru EFI Is not suitable for you, have different acpi and settings...maybe you try to use the One i've posted for blesh, removing cpufrienddataprovider.kext and replace usbmap.kext with yours..

OK will do, but disabling WEG & removing adgpmod=pikera allowed me to boot with it.

I'll try the one you posted for Blesh .

Here's my current EFI any pointers to opimisation would be welcome. I'm currently using iMacPro smbios but want to change to MacPro smbios as I think it better suites my current setup with Thunderbolt card etc.

All right will take your settings as well + BIOS update once the EFI arrived :)

use the last EFI i'll give you, use bios settings in previous post, add this kext in order after virtualsmc.kext. and you're right.

Thanks for that, it kind of works, it rebooted when trying to boot a couple of times and on the 3rd boot atempt it got to the desktop. Also Thunderbolt is not detected for some reason, so I'll try & investigate that.

This was in the problem report if it helps.

Thanks, I think I've fixed the rebooting  during boot. In the config.plist the 5700-MP71.kext was above the VirtualSMC.kext so using ProperTree I moved it to directly below and that seems to have solved the issue. Now I just need to get the Titan Ridge card detected and we'll be good.

Thanks, will do.

Nope still reboots on Apple logo screen and then boots to desktop after a couple of attempts.  Not sure what's going on now.

Lol, very true, I'm just used to this rig being rock solid stable and everything working. Think I'll go back to my iMacPro efi till I've got time to create a completely new MacPro EFI.

use the last EFI i'll give you, use bios settings in previous post, add this kext in order after virtualsmc.kext. and you're right.

Updated bios with your settings. Loaded your EFI with 5700-Mp71.kext does not work. It freezes/stops at the beginning of the progressbar with the Apple Logo.
Now I'm on the latest change without the 5700.kext but with all settings in bios expect 4G decoding.

Here is the EFI I used. Please take a last look into it :)

ok guys.....remove this {censored} 5700 kext and live without it! (it's not really needed...) what i don't know, is why your system don't boot with 4g decoding... uhmmmmmm

@D3v1L thanks for the EFI! I ended up using it since I don't see any video stuttering so far, I will continue testing but I think it's ok now! For the BIOS, I made the exact same settings as you, except 8 cores, disable bar and enable wake on lan. Also, in the EFI I changed the csr value for SIP since I want it to be disabled :D

Well right, res bar for Polaris Is not needed...btw...why wake on LAN? They work with gprw? Never known It! 👍🏻🙂  (I set your sip enabled couse is my default LoL)

Hey benjiolino,

for video the apple silicon package has additional dedicated areas which accelerate video editing, especially apple prores.  But for general CPU bound work - I have found the i9 works really well.  It appears just as responsive for scientific work flows as the Mac Studio with a M1 Max chip that I use at work.

Saying that this is "seat of the pants", not extensive benchmarking comparisons.

and of course, if you want to play some PC games, it is short work to reboot to native windows, which you can't do with a native apple PC.

Hey sacul,

I updated now my Radeon VII to a RX 6900XT. It´s really a big difference in Resolve for noise reduction and it's quiet silent. The Radeon VII is not silent at all. I'm wondering if it makes sense to also upgrade the CPU to a 12900k for example. I wonder if it's much faster then the 9900k even though it has no iGPU acceleration. Does anybody have experience and can tell me if the upgrade is worth it?

And where are these BIOS settings too???

...so...you use DaVinci with quicksynch + igpu in headless? Oh..

Yes I use the 9900k with iMac setting. You say it would be faster as MacPro? What CPU would you recommend for editing? I see you have a build with a thread ripper and a 6900xt. is it good for resolve?
