@AudioGod

 what sort of benchmarks do you get with your stock 9900K?

Mine have dropped -

Geekbench 4 multiscore 3690

Cinebench  r15 - 1976

I don’t run at stock I run @5.2ghz cc@4.7

My current scores are on my z390 master thread :)

Yeah just going by your cinibench score your right in the Sweet spot of where you should be at stock buddy. :thumbsup_anim: (Take geekbench with a pinch of salt as it never scores the same score twice and is abit all over the place)

where are your temps maxing out too at stock and what’s your cooling system? (I’m just being nosey)

Ok cool, I'm at 83c running Cinebench r15, I have quite an aggressive fan curve with my H150I, I was expecting cooler so I may upgrade the fans and re thermal paste the CPU at some point

If you can tell me the SKU of your 9900k I can tell you if it’s a good bit of silicone or not?

tbh that’s about right temps wise for your average 9900k, the real tell tell of how good it is would be to get a reading or the amps and watts being pulled from the system from the cpu while running say small ffts in prime 95 (custom 12 12)

SRELS is the SKU

give me a power reading instead like I described and I can tell you that way?

In addition to checking the CPU lid itself like @AudioGod recommended, you can find the SKU also on it's enclosing box that came with when you bought it.

What is r0 stepping, I've never seen stock speeds that high

My next build / upgrade will be a custom loop with a cherry picked cpu, lets see who wins then :P

So I have been experimenting with darkwake values on my Aorus z390 Pro build for the past couple of weeks, because I started noticing that USB drives were reported as force-ejected upon wake. I would like to share with you guys (and possibly gals - but the chances are low :D )

You can see all the available flags here:

https://github.com/apple/darwin-xnu/blob/a449c6a3b8014d9406c2ddbdc81795da24aa7443/iokit/Kernel/IOPMrootDomain.cpp#L309

enum {
    kDarkWakeFlagHIDTickleEarly = 0x01, // hid tickle before gfx suppression
    kDarkWakeFlagHIDTickleLate = 0x02, // hid tickle after gfx suppression
    kDarkWakeFlagHIDTickleNone = 0x03, // hid tickle is not posted
    kDarkWakeFlagHIDTickleMask       = 0x03,
    kDarkWakeFlagAlarmIsDark         = 0x0100,
    kDarkWakeFlagGraphicsPowerState1 = 0x0200,
    kDarkWakeFlagAudioNotSuppressed  = 0x0400
};

The default flag set by the kernel is 3 as you can see here:

https://github.com/apple/darwin-xnu/blob/a449c6a3b8014d9406c2ddbdc81795da24aa7443/iokit/Kernel/IOPMrootDomain.cpp#L337

static uint32_t         gDarkWakeFlags = kDarkWakeFlagHIDTickleNone;

So removing the darkwake boot argument lets the kernel to default on value 3 which to be honest up until now is the best performing darkwake value according to my tests:

- My machine does not instant wake from sleep by itself.

- My machine does not force eject the USB drives when falling asleep.

- Dark wakes for mail check, Mac App Store updates etc work properly (The motherboard's LEDs light up and the fans start spinning without the monitor waking up) and then it goes to sleep again, turning off the motherboard's LEDs and all fans.

The only con that this setup has (as I have previously reported) is that it takes a bit longer and a bit more tickling of the mouse or keyboard to wake up the machine. But it actually wakes up, also unlocks with my watch and there is no report of USB drives force ejected.

Interesting...

I using darkwake 0 like audiogod  does with my z390 pro and I don’t have any problem with sleep and usb at all. I have to click like 3 times on my mouse to wake my machine up or Walk out of bluetooth range and walk back in with my iphone.
I usually Sleep my hack walk out.  it automatically wakes up the moment I walk back to my room and place my phone near the case within 1 meter of Bluetooth range.  not sure if that’s expected.

@larabee Interesting one for you, I did the washer mod to the reference 5700xt and I’ve got it running better then the nitro+ with a tiny bit of a overclock on it and it’s running cooler now too.

i think I might keep the reference one in there and shove it under water, I’m scoring 9987 in 3DMark.

the pcb is so much better then the aftermarket ones too. I had them both in bits and you can see the difference straight away. It’s impressive stuff. I’m wondering how it behaves in macOS under 1,1 now. I thought it was stable last time I tried it but I was wrong but now I’ve done the washer mod to it let’s see now. Watch this space :)

I set aside 8 hours today to test out 1,1 OC EFI you sent me  (Love you @texem , your OpenCore is solid)

AMD Recommendation is 40 PSI and that recommendation is for the blower heatsink. In Fact, you will need at least 75 PSI to 80 PSI to get good contact ( and of course with balanced pressure or you risk cracking the chip)
You should also test out the VRM pressure too as I need to remount mine on the Red Devil. 100% sure that manufacturer has not done their homework and just blindly follow AMD recommendation.

I couldn't agree with you more.

Im going to convert @texem 1,1 EFI to the master and give it a crack with the reference GPU too. :)

What is your pmset configuration? Mine is this:

Also, regarding the hack waking when you approach, I think it is related to the proximitywake setting. If you don't like this behaviour you can turn it of either in Hackintool or by typing:

pmset -a proximitywake 0
