Hi Fergarth

I can speak for my self and I would like to say I am not a developer but a simple user who tries to apply some guru's findings-

In this thread (also in mine) we are experimenting with difference experience and with some variations the findings of pikeralpha (his blog is a great place for inspirations)

Some of us maybe understand before others his not simple way to help not experienced users (sorry pike if you are reading those words :-) :-) )

Thanks to Pike now we have also a hackintosh working with platform and CPU two steps beyond original Macs

So...

we have to be happy

Maybe we have also to pay more attention to use all we read in "correct" way

Forum like IM are here also for this task!

Yes it´s a problem with Gigabyte BIOS, you can disable EIST in Bios but msr 0x1A0 bit 16 is set false.

So EIST keeps enabled. Same here with Gigabyte board.

it makes no difference. EIST enabled or disabled in BIOS. Same results.

 

I have to disable msr 0x199. This msr is false programmed from xcpm. 

Reading out msr 199/198 in Windows shows changing values from lowest to highest multiplier,

with xcpm we get there only 3 states. Min, max. and base multiplier. For me from 0xC0, 0x23 and 0x2E.

In Windows it changes from 0xC0 to 0x2E and 0xFF, with all steps between. 

 

Reading out msr 199 with xcpm shows no changing values, only msr 198 shows the 3 different. 

 

So we have do disable msr 199 and write high multiplier (0xFF) manually ti it. This is what the Brumbaer patch does.

With this patch xcpm writes every time the highest multiplier 0xFF to register, when wrmsr 0x199 is called.

 

You can test it and change the patch: 89D8C1E008B99901 -> B8002E0000B99901 this ist original patch, it writes 0xFF to most 0x199.

 

change to B800230000B99901 it writes 0X23 (3500 MHz) to msr 0x199. You get max. 35 multiplier

 

change to B800C00000B99901 and you get turtle power of 1200 MHz max  :D

 

 

 

And when i boot without Brumbaer patch, i get lower P-States, but never permanent max. multiplier under load. The old xcpm problem.

Some people think is´t a problem with the bigger cache of the Xeon/i7 extreme CPUs, apple never used them and so xcpm can´t program C-States for the uncore part correct.

 

But i see more switch tables in the xcpm assembler code, maybe there are more tests for CPU model in the code, and we (credit to Pike R. Alpha) just find/patched 2 of them.

Xcpm bootstrap and CPU_ID set.

 

Without the source code, you need a genius to read and understand the assembler code.

if i set max. multi to 46 in bios, and set 0x23 to the patch, the max. CPU frequency is 3500 MHz in Benchmark.

So it runs only at stock speed.

 

When you put 0x25 there, yes you get max. 3700 Mhz.

 

I test 0x2E and 2F (with one core overclock to 47 and 5 cores to 46 in Bios) i get better states and stable good performance :)  

 

before i got only a min. state of 25, now i got 15

with EIST enabled and no patches applied, the performance is getting better with every step of a lower max. multi., a lower max. CPU frequency.

 

 

When you run a stock speed, 1200, 3500 and 3600 max, EIST ist working nearly perfect, for me. Sometimes  

 

If you overclock, set max. to 43 or 46, the problems become more, the steps between base and max. are to big, msr 199 ist not correct set, and EIST throttles your CPU, 

it never gets the correct msr 199 settings. 

 

And sorry, 0xC0 was not correct, it is 0xC. (1200).

yes, Thermal Monitor can be disabled.

 

Now i´m testing I/0 MWAIT redirection enabled

it makes no difference. EIST enabled or disabled in BIOS. Same results.

 

I have to disable msr 0x199. This msr is false programmed from xcpm. 

Reading out msr 199/198 in Windows shows changing values from lowest to highest multiplier,

with xcpm we get there only 3 states. Min, max. and base multiplier. For me from 0xC0, 0x23 and 0x2E.

In Windows it changes from 0xC0 to 0x2E and 0xFF, with all steps between. 

 

Reading out msr 199 with xcpm shows no changing values, only msr 198 shows the 3 different. 

 

So we have do disable msr 199 and write high multiplier (0xFF) manually ti it. This is what the Brumbaer patch does.

With this patch xcpm writes every time the highest multiplier 0xFF to register, when wrmsr 0x199 is called.

 

You can test it and change the patch: 89D8C1E008B99901 -> B8002E0000B99901 this ist original patch, it writes 0xFF to most 0x199.

 

change to B800230000B99901 it writes 0X23 (3500 MHz) to msr 0x199. You get max. 35 multiplier

 

change to B800C00000B99901 and you get turtle power of 1200 MHz max  :D

 

 

 

And when i boot without Brumbaer patch, i get lower P-States, but never permanent max. multiplier under load. The old xcpm problem.

Some people think is´t a problem with the bigger cache of the Xeon/i7 extreme CPUs, apple never used them and so xcpm can´t program C-States for the uncore part correct.

 

But i see more switch tables in the xcpm assembler code, maybe there are more tests for CPU model in the code, and we (credit to Pike R. Alpha) just find/patched 2 of them.

Xcpm bootstrap and CPU_ID set.

 

Without the source code, you need a genius to read and understand the assembler code.

I overclock 4300MHz But I adjust to 5000MHz in SSDT and  0x199

Now I change 32 get 50(5000MHz)

Finally, intel power gadget frequency line goes up.

I thing Gigabyte board doesn't need MSR patch 2 0x1A0 bios take care that.

i tested complete stock, no overclock setting in Bios.

 

Only msr 0x199 deactivated, 0xE2, 0x1AA, 0x3A06 and 0x4206 patch.

 

Nearly perfect PM with drop to 12.

i tested complete stock, no overclock setting in Bios.

 

Only msr 0x199 deactivated, 0xE2, 0x1AA, 0x3A06 and 0x4206 patch.

 

Nearly perfect PM with drop to 12.

What patches did you enabled\disabled?

All cores reach C3 State, but it´s more efficient to use C6 direct. 

 

So CPU uses direct C6 in idle when auto demotion is enabled.

 

Today working with this settings.... and it shows that all core uses C3 and C6.

No crash or reboot with Gigabyte board. 

 

At this time i use 2 configs, 1 complete stock, and 1 overclocked. Both without problems.

A question....just curiosity...why do you have nv_drv enabled in boot flag and you use nvidiaweb driver flag enabled too in System Parameters? Maybe it's requested by your 2 new graphics patches?

I tested your plist and confirm that in my Asus also works well and the system appears stable.

UEFI BIOS by default, without overclocking.

EIST disabled.

With SSDT for PM.

But I like more your results. Tomorrow I will re-test but without SSDT.

since update to 10.12.1 my CPU is working nice and smooth.

 

Performance changed back to 1 and got all P-States with overclocked system.

How to fix the package clamping limitation??

Hi ekwipt,

How to fix I don´t know, but in my system appears to be ok. At least it is not "disabled".

 

- Package Clamping Limitation #1....... : 1 (allow going below OS-requested P/T state during Time Window for Power Limit #1)

 

- Time Window for Power Limit #1....... : 10 (2560 milli-Seconds)

 

- Package Power Limit #2............... : 168 Watt
