I've looked at the pic from the link and i think the card used is a 650GTX BY GIGABYTE

Could that be your problem

Well I was told by Tech support that both the GT 640 and GTX 760 will be supported with the next Osmosis release maybe if were lucky in about a week or so.

That is great news for sure.

@0SxFr33k. I'm just using what I've looked at from the link.

and i have no idea what the next bios update with bring to this motherboard. but i do appreciate all there hard work from ppl involved

i think sometimes ppl in the hackintosh  scene ask to much i.e. trying to use cards i.e. graphics or wifi. which a not on the apple white list and expect it to work

and perhaps expect a instant fix if it dosent

well lets be real about it. it a hackintosh and a hobby and perhaps ppl are getting lazy there is a difference between help and being spoon feed

Yes I see you point on this.  I think I just rushed into buying the board when I should have thought a bit more about this.  I must have over 10 Desktops and several laptops as well as a Mac Pro 2008 8 Core and MacBook Pro 2013 late all running only OSX on them all working great and I am use to the flexibility I have with them, because of the impressive and persistent work of the developers involved in this project.  I tend to forget that sometimes.

When I relax a bit and realize how powerful this board is, the components supported are plentiful for now.

The GT 640M was in one of the IMacs.  I know its a Mobile version.

EDITED:

I thought the GT 640 was in either an iMac or MacBook Pro at one point so it looks like it was only the 650 then.

Self encrypting disks

Folks,

I have been wondering about self encrypting disks on the AOS. Is there a BIOS (Oz) switch that allows recognition of SEDs? Or does anyone of you have a recommendation for a SATA controller that would have a BIOS and would pop up the window to enter the different passcodes for SEDs? This is one of the features missing in the original, and I thought the copy should be better than the original.  :P Maybe a kind soul can share info?

just bumpin': Has anyone had any success with self-encrypting drives on his Quo machine?

IMHO not many will look into this, SSD's are still not cheap and one with SED is extra, I for one, I have no "plans" in getting one or such SATA controller for test, but I have some advice for you:

1. For SED drive:

The UEFI driver that cover most of this is "OpalSecurity" GUID: 59AF16B0-661D-4865-A381-38DE68385D8D

You can get this module from various UEFI BIOS Vendors, extract it and insert it in you favorite BIOS for test then give it a try.

You can also look at leaked AMI source if you want to know how this works...

2. For SATA card:

Just make sure you get one with UEFI BIOS.

3. For BIOS ATA Password stuff, I don't know yet what is required, investigating...

Some info I found here

Good luck!

Thanks, The King. Will look into it and see if I can work out something. Am not a BIOS hacker myself, but some kindergarten experiments with an random Adaptec card and a random SED capable SSD did not work out (as expected) under OS X. That would be the hattrick, but I don't expect it to work, it is just a remote hope.... It may with Linux, though. Will try to look into it and if I find anythign of value, I'll share.

Could some of you if you have the time check something.  Could you go into you Bios not once but several times to see if it ever gets stuck with a black screen or blinking cursor or once in the Bios if it ever freezes.  It does this on ever 3rd or 4th try for me.  With 1 stick , 2 sticks or 4 sticks of memory.  Corsair Vengeance 32 GB set. This same set works flawless in my Z77X board.

I have no discreet cards installed this is using the integrated intel 4000 GPU.

I am on the latest Factory Bios and Osmosis 828.

Mavericks never freezes just the Bios.

Thanks

Hi, one my friend buy this mobo and yoday we start to install osx natively.

The wole process goes well, we have a fully function mavericks system,

One symple question, why in thunderbolt info i see no hardware found?

It's normal or something need to be fixed? and in case of, what?

Many thanks

I had this or a very similar problem back in October. It occurred when I had 2 screens connected - one DVI-D and the other HDMI, trying to get them both to work on the integrated GPU.

There is a fairly good thread in the Apple support forums on (Opal) self encrypting disks and OS X: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2739755?start=0&tstart=0

Another excellent thread (albeit without an answer to the question on how to achieve HW FDE under OS X) is: http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/76530/is-a-hardware-based-full-disk-encryption-possible-on-a-mac .

A couple of side-remarks: Using Software on top of the OS does not make sense in my book, as it requires (corruptible) software to work. So, Winmagic for Mac is not a solution (or any other software that requires to be run after the boot process has started). For completeness reasons: http://www.winmagic.com/products/full-disk-encryption-for-mac is the link to the Winmagic solution.

Of course, many use the SED SSD by Samsung (same here). Interestingly enough, these are not all OPAL compliant (some seem to be). I personally would think this is actually an advantage. ATA commands are a clear and safe way of handling stuff. Why add third party leverage to the security that tries to keep exactly these third parties out.

Therefore the question remains (and The King has indicated where that is headed above), how to reach full disk encryption from UEFI.

Short of hacking around in the BIOS (yes I have found some pastebin info on the AMI, but unfortunately I am braindead in BIOS hacking) I see that I have only one option for now: Find an adapter/controller for SATA that clicks into the UEFI.

Any pointer is taken with gratitude.

Thunderbolt will show up as PCIE card when you actually connect a thunderbolt device to the motherboard. Not hot swappable but will be detected on restart. My my westerndigital my book thunderbolt works flawlessly. 200mb/s

I have been struggling most of the night trying to figure out why my EVGA GT 640 won't work. It boots up but only to a grey screen? Not sure if I need to disable the integrated Graphics or what or possibly PCIRootUID=1 or 0?

And whats going on with the unknown CPU model? It is in the list of supported processors on Wiki. Intel i7-3770K

Here is a snippet of the dsemg.

You really need to flash the osmosis 828 bios. Are you on this bios? My second system built for a friend works flawlessly. Mavericks 10.9.2 with a gtx680. Looks like your gtx640 isn't supported out of the box. Recommended card is the 650ti and 670. My gtx580 works great with Davinci resolve. I have a second old gefore 6900gt in the 8x slot which is also running great.

Sorry for the garble tapatalk screwed this post up... Here goes again

GOOD NEWS!!!! (Well for me at least :) )

HIS RADEON RADEON 7750 (low profile) WORKS OOTB, FULLY RECOGNISED IN MAVERICKS !! (With 828 bios)

Woohoo!!

On not so good news, Mavericks isn't liking the Sapphire version of this card. I get a black screen after the boot loader (first apple I guess) loads mavericks. From then on its allll black. I'm guessing maybe if I add the device id to AMD7000controller.kext it may work, (card works fine in Linux btw, just to rule the harwdare out)... It's strange that on Tony's forums this specific card has been reported to work OOTB though.... To be continued....

Now for the bad news. CAN'T POST with both cards on board. Could this be broken in the BIOS? :((

Both PCI express lanes work (1&4). Each card works separately in one of those lanes by themselves. Put both in, no go. No Quo Logo, Nada. I can tell it hasn't posted yet because in this condition a single press of the power button switched the machine off, whereas if an OS has loaded it requires a long press to power off. A single press puts it to sleep. Not the case here.

've tried the following settings in 828 bios, changing one at a time, starting from loaded optimised defaults.

- init graphics Auto

- init graphics PCIe

- PCIe gen set to auto

- PCIe fixed to Gen3

- PCIe fixed to Gen2

- 3mark01 boost set to normal

- 3dmark01 boost set to legacy

- video cable attached to card in lane 1 (hdmi / dvi)

- video cable attached to cable in lane 4 (hdmi / dvi)

In every single test, on power on I get a black screen, no Quo Logo... Even after 5 min wait...

Anyone else tried two video cards (let alone crossfire) with the Oz bios? (King? If u still have any patience left.....?)

My setup: core I5 3570k 4gigs of ram, 2 ssds, HIS + SAPPHIRE Radeon 7750 1024 GDDR5

GTX580 in the x16 slot and geforct 9600 in the x8 slot. Both will work. The gtx580 gives me a streched apple logo on bootup and the 9600 will be just black screen until the osx desktop finder appears. Davinci Resolve recognises both cards when i plug the monitor into the 9600. The gtx580 is used for gpu calculations processing when plugged to the 9600. However only one card only will be used for display. For 2 monitors, both outputs from a single card will work as display.

@gregtay67,

I do have Osmosis installed.  The behavior I have been describing thus far is mostly the Bios Freeze caused both by the GT 640 and GTX 760 both are EVGA cards.  This same issue happened to my Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP5-TH board yesterday.  I updated the Bios last night and now it will post, get past the splash screen.  I called Tech support to let them know I found this similar issue on my other board,  cannot get past the Post to install anything and they basically think there is nothing wrong?

So if I want to install Linux or Windows 7 using the GT 640 or GTX 760 and cannot get past the Post I guess I don't know what I am doing and cannot install any OS. (AOS????)

There is a reason why is called AOS(Any OS) and not ANB(Any N00B)!

You said that you did read all 60 pages of this topic, if you did it like I do with sport pages on news papers, then is zero in zero out.

It is stated at least in five places (for you black screen bug) to set on BIOS/BIOS Features/Display Boot Option ROM Control to Legacy Only

I really hope a BIOS update will be released with this set by default so  I wont have to repeat myself over and over.

I tried Legacy Only before and did not help with the GT 640 so I did not think to try it on the GTX 760.  I changed it to Legacy Only for the EVGA GTX 760 and it did get past the QUO Computer boot logo which displayed twice but it still goes to a black screen.  Legacy Mode Only did take care of the Quo Computer splash screen freeze however.  Still unable to get it to boot past the black screen.

Then this motherboard does not like you. RMA or sell it, I am sure there is someone made for it who can easy deal with it...

I am going to try that Saturday just load the Factory Bios (no Osmosis) to see if I can at least get to a screen I can install Ubuntu.

EDITED:

Finally was able to make a complete boot into OSX.  Before I finally made it to the OSX boot I still kept getting the black screen so I brainstormed an idea.  I hit F12 and actually got the boot option screen, chose Mavericks and the rest is history.  There is still an issue however.  After I reboot cmos resets Legacy back to EFI?  XMP profile 1 does not reset so I am unsure if this is a CMOS reset caused by Mavericks or something else, the question is what?

I have to remove the GTX 760 because I cannot get back into the Bios (Frozen QUO Computer Logo) as before.  Once I boot with 4000 I can change it back to Legacy again.  I don't want to have to do this every time I reboot.

Any ideas are welcome.

Thanks

Never thought about that I will look into that.  The XMP profile does not reset but other changes in the Bios will reset.   This is the kind of thing I have been dealing with from day 1.

EDITED:

There are just too many things to mention about the issues in the Bios.  Time changes and sleep/wake and/or a reboot after the sleep/wake could be the cause I don't know.  I do know that after a sleep/wake, I get unusual boot changes such as the Quo Screen Freeze, then reboot give me a black screen.  Seems like I have to reboot 2 or 3 times to get back into the Bios again.  This is repeatable.

The QUO Logo screen I thought only happened with the discreet GPU GTX 760 installed and I was wrong.   That alone tells me something could be wrong with the Bios or board itself I don't know.

My best bet is to wait for the next Osmosis revision and if that does not work then RMA it.

ok i would visually check everything is seated propley on the board. download the bois file again and load to a clean usb stick. and reflash the board then try a reinstall  of mac osx

i would try and use built in graphics just to get osx up and running then  add your graphics card later

Problem solved.  I flashed the Stock F3A only then did what you recommended as well as a combination of things. Boot Option Rom Control was set to Legacy and would reset seems to be fine now that I have just the Factory Bios installed (Osmosis not installed).  Found out I had a bad VGA cable made the different graphics cards work intermittently.  Proven with a third graphics card EVGA GTX 9800 known to work.  One of my three GT 640's is bad, which further complicated troubleshooting.

I booted the EFI installed OSX 10.9.2 from a USB flash MyHack which has the Chameleon Bootloader and chose GraphicsEnabler=no at the boot prompt and both the GTX 760 and GT 640 (2) working OOTB with stock apple drivers (no nvidia web drivers installed).  Ran a bunch of benchmarks all went well.  OpenCL works fine. Installed Cuda the one just posted in "New Releases" and works fine checked with Cuda-Z.

Now I am just waiting for a Bios update to support the GT 640 and GTX 760.  In  the meantime I may purchase a supported card such as the GTX 660.

So it comes down to User Error (me).  Thanks for all the help and your patience.  I will not have to RMA the board.

I think I might flash the 828 Osmosis and just run the IG card until the next update.

Great Board!!

Glad to help in my experience. go for a graphics card by Gigabyte as  that seem to have less problems

i think  the is a frame buffer fix in the  828 osmosis bios

and there is then no need for need for a boot loader or extras folder with that bios. and all setting are default on my set up

and i can install from the apple store just patch sound
