A Nonny Moose
Well it appears that Windows 98 is finally being given its burial. Truly sad as I have some apps that will only work in 98 (regardless of MS hype about backward compatibility). Colonel
Just run the Win 98 apps with compatability mode. I got Roller Coaster Tycoon to run on Vista and it was designed for Win 95. Takuro
An article about the end of Windows 98 written by a Mac fanboy. Ugh. Why am I not surprised... They're also pulling support for Windows XP SP1. SP2 didn't come out too long ago. I think it has less to do with the actual age of their OS's. They're pulling support for OS's that they feel are too buggy to bother helping anybody with. So that isn't saying much... Well at least they're freeing up the phone lines for all the milliones of people who will be asking for help with Vista as they run into a bizillion problems. Smart move. The only PC I have with Windows 98 doesn't even have an ethernet port, and since dial-up is out of the question, I simply don't use the internet on it. It makes me feel like I'm in the days before the internet became mainstream. bptba93
Rollercoaster tycoon? i got that game it's fun when you got nothing to do... The only PC I have with Windows 98 doesn't even have an ethernet port, and since dial-up is out of the question, I simply don't use the internet on it. It makes me feel like I'm in the days before the internet became mainstream well that's why they make ethernet cards most win 98 comps have one installed by the owner. Colonel
Windows 98 is the only OS I own legit Me too! After I discovered that 98 was a waste of money, I made a promise to myself to never waste my money on another MS product again. amdprophet
I own Windows 95 and 98 legally, along with XP Home and XP MCE. I never paid for any of them, they just came with computers that were given to me. I've always known it would be a waste of money. Now if OS X was actually released for non-Apple computers, I would buy it in a split second. A Nonny Moose
I'll actually miss Win 98. It ran like a dream in Virtual PC. I wish I could say the same for my previous real one that ran Win 98. I must have hit that damn thing so many times my hand went numb. Swad
I hope Vista is more like 95 than 98 in terms of groundbreaking-ness. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19630-rip-windows-98/#findComment-134837 Share on other sites
dponmac
I do not miss having to reboot everytime i made a change to my network settings, or having to copy the win98 folder to the C drive because you had to pop the cd in everytime you made a change because it needed to "install" something. Swad
I'll have to admit, I used a 98 machine the other day and although there were a lot of things it couldn't do, it was pretty snappy for being on such bad hardware.
