I hate WMP with a passion ... I use Media Player Classic for most things on Windows - for those not familiar with it, it's an open source player based on the pre-bloatware Media Player v6 from W98 days, but with up-to-date functionality. Google it if you're interested.

Ill take WMP over iTunes if they dont drm the f**k out of my music. If I wipe my harddrive, witch I have to do alot, I want to still have my music that I payde for... but thats not going to happen because wmp will be at least as drm ed as itunes if not more :)

Wiping your drive does not break your iTunes music... You will have to re-authorize the machine, so be sure to de-authorize it first. And if you forget that, you can name your machine the same and re-authorize it and it does not duplicate. You also have the option once a year to de-activate all of your computers and start over fresh. That comes in handy when you've sold one, reinstalled one, authorized your sister's computer, and then found you used them all up. (I think it's 5, right?)

As much as I hate DRM, at least legally downloading music isn't as "scary" anymore to these music execs who just don't get it. I like the convenience of it, but the music gestapo needs these things to slowly let loose their grip on how we buy music. Besides, you can burn it to CD and immediately reimport it to ditch the DRM and keep your ID tags. I do it to all of my purchased music just in case. You never know... you know?

And who the heck thought subscribing to music was a good idea? $15 a month for the rest of my life... and if I stop paying it all stops playing? At least with iTunes I bought it forever. (and so far Apple's longevity is looking a lot better than Napster's.)

=)

oh, thank you. i wondered about that because i have 4 of 5 and i have 2? that i forgot to deauthorize :( (but its my friends account ;) ) and another way i just remembered is that if you burn it to audio disk the drm gets removed during the itunes burn process. WMV will also have a problem with the library, itunes is allready the music store to be measured against because it is allready established all over the world and has alot of record companies backing it.

WMP was great for a long time until iTunes came out. After iTunes it felt to hard to manage through your library, too bulky, and nothing very special. I think the music stores in iTunes has really made it something by adding podcasts and all sorts of stuff like that. In the end WMP isn't a bad program just not quite as good as it's competition.

Ok, i hate iTunes....it sucks so much, and Quicktime sucks right a long with it. WMP is the best ever. Seeing as it takes like half a second to load on my Computer (I have WMP 11) compared to the 4 seconds it takes iTunes to load it is much better. All my songs are mp3s so i dont need any stupid avc codecs or whatever iTunes uses. Now for videos. There are hundreds of Codec plugins for WMP, which is good. NOt to mention that just about every video i download (except the ones for my iPod Nano, yes, my iPod Nano. Use Floydzilla) is WMV or MPG.

The thing is that WMP is the best. iTunes is horrable, plus it looks so ugly. WMP 11 a long with Windows XP skinned to look like Vista (it looks just like it, no flaws) looks like a dream.

WMP 11 pwns iTunes

Last time i used windows media player i thought it sounded like {censored}... but i never did use any equilizer settings...(I'm not sure... i hope though that wmp has them)... I started using equilizer settings in winamp, itunes and amaroK... All three are by far better than WMP but i would have to say amaroK is the best... to bad it isn't for windows or osx.

iTunes plays mp3s "out of the box".

And so does WMP. Plus with the right codec it will play just about any other audio/video file out there and that includes quicktime and realplayer. When I play my music it is usally by albums with WMP I can view my collection in a much more manageble way than I ever could on ITunes. For a small collection ITunes is fine but I have over 10,000 songs in my collection, and all full albums. With WMP I can view them by Artist,Album,Gender or track. With ITunes I see a list of 10,000 songs not what I want.

On the plus side ITunes is nice for streaming music to my PC's so they both have a place. The MS sucks Apple Sucks is just getting old.
