ricola,

You are the man! SUCCESS!

I followed your instructions and low and behold... SL on my Abit IP35 Pro! Here are the steps I did...

1. I had an old Leopard 10.5.2 Kalyway patched install DVD that I knew would work with my box. So I booted that up and installed 10.5.2 to a 16gb thumbdrive.

2. Booted from the newly installed 10.5.2 thumbdrive.

3. Once in osx on my box, I followed ricola's steps in the first post to the T. (had to create my own GFX String and the kext utility wouldn't create Extensions.mkext, so i just used ricola's he provided and BE SURE TO DO CUSTOMIZE INSTALL WHEN RUNNING OSInstall.mpkg and remove all language, printers, and fonts, or it will error at very end, at least it did for me until i did that)

4. Booted from the newly installed SL thumbdrive (but couldn't specify arch=x86_32 or -v ... for some reason when i hit tab at the bootloader to get to darwin prompt... i can type but the enter key won't send the commands... enter does nothing... I have no clue on that ... anybody?)

5. SL is running SUPER FAST from a thumbdrive, so now all i have to do is rinse and repeat for my real SATA HDD ;) !!!!!

Thanks ricola and everyone else in the osx86 community that helps with their tools and knowledge!

Mattswell,

boot with : -s

/sbin/fsck -fy

/sbin/mount -uw /

kextcache -v 1 -t -m /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.caches/Startup/Extensions.mkext /System/Library/Extensions/

update_dyld_shared_cache

reboot

-ricola

After further use... this didn't fix the issue.

It takes me anywhere from 3 to 15 reboots until OSX actually boots. Any ideas?

MrSco,

Always better to have a back-up :( ... and before you do the update, from 10.6 mount your snow.dmg or DVD.

type this in terminal :

sudo -s

chown 0:0 /

open /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/System/Installation/Packages/BSD.pkg

diskutil repairpermissions /

Use "-x32" instead of arch=x86_32 at chameleon prompt

or for a more permanent solution add boot flag to /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist like so

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>-x32 boot-uuid=YOUR-UUID</string>

@mattswell - I can't tell how right now, I don't know your partition scheme and what did you do to it after post installation :D

I don't have a very weird partitioning scheme...

Drive A - GUID - Windows 7 (NTFS) / HFS+ partition (for whatever)

Drive B - GUID - Snow (HFS+) / Scratch partition (NTFS)

Drive C/D - GUID (Software RAID)

BIOS is configured to boot Drive B first; it has RC3 installed. Using the DSDT you provided earlier.

ummm. not sure. I think other people have had problems with NTFS causing kernel panic. Not sure if I have seen it work for anyone yet. Would need a screenshot to get an idea of why you see kernel panic.

I have yet to plus my windows drive back in since moving to SL. Will have to test this and see.

open terminal: diskutil list

and post here to see your partitions order.

what if:

- using GPT (not MBR)

- and there is Leo on first/top partition

- and Leo using Chameleon

then:

- move Leo to other partition and install SL on the top partition

- or install Boot Think 2.3 on Leo and put SL extra kext in there (/Darwin/System/LibrarySL/Extensions)

Hi

-arail

i already have my snow drive setup to boot up first in my bios... Any other ideas?

-ricola

when i boot up in safe mode and run the kext utility it's runs fine... But when I open up the bsd.pkg it gives me a KP... When I try to boot it normally it goes all the way to the aqua screen where the mouse comes up but it's just stays there with no mouse...

Thanks

Try this :

boot with -x -v

Mount your snow.dmd/DVD, Terminal :

sudo -s
chown 0:0 /
open /Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ DVD/System/Installation/Packages/BSD.pkg
diskutil repairpermissions /

If still can't install BSD.pkg ... try to install it from leopard (target snow)
