My monthly Macworld mag just arrived and there is mention of this FrontRow substitute (Macworld calls it Second Row) called MediaCentral made by equinux. I installed this baby and it is sweet. Guys, no more need of trying to get FrontRow running on your MacIntels. Take a look:

Did I forget to mention it's free?

I like mediacentral's look, and the movie trailers are well implemented...

...but it's godawful slow on network shares, like more than 2 minutes to load my video directory, which isn't all that much video (maybe 100 files).

And you can't run it in a window. That's a real bummer; if I want to check email or something real fast, I have to exit the prog totally. (it always steals focus, even on virtue desktops)

It's a good program. Just not great, IMO.

Dude, where you been? This has been Uni-Bin for months...

No but it is a great "free" program. It is a bit sluggish if your system is a bit sluggish. A good idea to have all the graphic's do dads installed, fast memory, and fast CPU.

The movie trailers are great and always self update. So you can watch what is good for just coming out in the theatres and on DVD.

When my cable went out I watched many classics and Indy TV was cool. Although, not all the channels come in because WMV and Real patches are not Unibin yet.

Also there are rare times when even VLC won't play a file. Media Central always seems to come through sometimes even more than VLC? Which is odd but it does pull through.

On the downside, like Domino mentioned, it has to be run in full screen only. No windows to shirnk down. One user must quick and then resume to multi task...

Also the opening music is a bit dark and scary. They should work on that a bit.

And last but certainly not least, they need more TV tuner support. Plain and simple....

Overall a great program and worth downloading....

I tried it...i didn't really like it. It had a few cool things, but the movie trailers it had were like from six months ago, and front row really is better, though I just plugin in my usb mouse just so it'll work and still use my PS2 mouse

anyone notice how the unviersal version of this app doesn't seem to want to recognize the universal version of real player on your system?

Running here on a macbook pro with both apps installed, and i'm getting an odd "no universal real player browser plugin" error message.
