Well, I was pretty bored, I figured I would tell everyone about my exciting (some what) news.. I joined the army.. and I'm leaving here come the first week of may, for around 6 months, then when I come back from basic/AIT (Advanced Individual Training) I'll probably be going to Iraq for atleast a year, haven't decided yet, I think it will be a good experience, I'm going in as a Information Technology Specialist (25B) I'll be going to Ft. Jackson, SC for 9 weeks of bootcamp then to Ft. Gordon, GA for 15 weeks of AIT. Then I'll be coming home on leave for a little while, and either decided if I want to go to Iraq or start going to school at Western Michigan University free, I'm thinking I'll probably go to Iraq, seeing as how, regardless of my view on whether or not we should be there, or what not, we are, and that's all that matters, I really hate when people complain about us being there, the only thing that should matter, is that we ARE there, we need to support our country and our troops. But anyhow wish me luck!!!

Good luck! Spent six years in the Navy myself (been out a year). Joining was the best thing I ever did. You will make lifelong friends and experience things you can get nowhere else. Stay safe, and thank you for serving.

goodluck and stay safe! I never did join the military, although I toyed with the idea of joining the Marine corps for several years; I rolled the dice of life and here I am in med school, alittle different than air traffic control which I'd planned on. Several classmates of mine completed Navy OCS 2 years ago and will be serving and treating their fellow soldiers around the world beginning next May. Thank you for serving and although I also don't agree with what's gone on I will not hold those in uniform responsible for the governments mistakes. You take orders, those who give the orders are responsible and the public elected those people. Take care and stay safe.

Hey there from another Signal guy, 25R to be specific. Good luck man, you'll do fine. It's all a mind game at phase 1 and 2, but 3 is alright. AIT is also an extension of a mind game. I was at a very unique facility in Fort Meade Maryland, so I can relate. Once again good luck, and if you have any questions, just send em my way :police:

One of my friends (actually the boyfriend of a friend of mine) joined the Army Reserve...apparently her dad said, upon finding out, that he would like to open his head (and i quote) "and see if he has any f***ing brains inside that f***ing skull of his". For reference, he's a junior in high school.

First and foremost you deserve a pat on the back for signing up; everyone who is shielded by the brave men and women in the armed forces owes a debt to you and your sacrifice.

Second: Why? With an unpopular war and immense political pressure on our government to withdraw wouldn't this be a bad time to join?

It's unpopular in many ways, but that doesn't mean that we aren't doing great things over there. Having spent a year over there I find that many people's conceptions are way off due to what they here are see as the bad and the ugly. The good more often than not, left out.

Well I figured I would just post a quick update, I went to MEPS for the last two days, and I was just sworn in to the army today! That gives you quite a sense of pride being sworn in, it was definately a good feeling, I also found out some updated information, they changed the requirements on my MOS since I had last got the printout, so I'll be going to bootcamp at Ft. Jackson, SC (10 weeks) and then after there it will be off to Ft. Gordon, GA (23 weeks) for AIT, so it'll have me gone for a good 8 and half a months, which I guess isn't to bad, because you don't have much to spend money on, so I'll have alot of money when I come back, plus I got a $15,000 enlistment bonus, which is also cool, and I don't have to ship until May 24th, 2006 which kind of sucks, because I'm eager to start, I really wanted to leave May 1st, 2006, but that wasn't possible. Oh well, I guess the 24th is better than having to wait until like August or something!

God Speed Andrew! Remember that it ain't really as bad as the media says it is :o. None the less, take care and have a wonderful experience.

Agreed , good luck Andrew...

Now about the media making it sound worst than it is, i would disagree.. the beheadings weren't a media stunt.

Well now if you're asked , are you an american , you can say YES with pride. Some get asked and of course they say yes, but then they get asked would you goto battle? and they shake their heads quickly and say NO! are you crazy? ..

Godspeed Andrew,

Please remember and believe that :

God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
and you will do great.

PS, and learn to say it in Arabic :o : وَإِنَّنَا نَعْلَمُ أَنَّ اللهَ يَجْعَلُ جَمِيعَ الأُمُورِ تَعْمَلُ مَعاً لأَجْلِ الْخَيْرِ لِمُحِبِّيهِ، الْمَدْعُوِّينَ بِحَسَبِ قَصْدِهِ.
