    10.5.6 Released!

Alright I am running off of a 10.5.2 Kalyway install. I used Kalyway's 10.5.3 updater and software updated to 10.5.4 and then to 10.5.5. Will I need to do any patching with this?
  2. I just bought a new 640GB SATA drive to replace the IDE hard drive I had before. I put the hdd in and booted up the kalyway dvd (10.5.2). It boots fine but when I try to format the drive in disk utility, it gives an error that says "file system formatting error" or something like that. The drive works fine because I installed xp on it yesterday. I think I might have to change some settings in the BIOS but I am not sure what. My system uses a Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L with 4GB ram.
  3. If anyone knows if i could just reinstall the bootloader so i don't have to reinstall everything that would be great.
  4. I just installed linux on a slave hard drive but apparently the ubuntu GRUB overwrote the darwin bootloader. Now I have to have the disk in the tray for it to boot into OSX86. I don;t know how to reinstall the bootloader so I'm just gonna reinstall anyway. My question is when I reinstall from my 10.5.2 disk and restore everything from a TM backup, will it be updated to 10.5.4? The TM backup that I made is from my current 10.5.4 install. Thanks

    Memory upgrade - from 2GB to ?

I think if you want to increase memory you should buy 2GB modules one by one or if you have the money, buy 4. 2GB modules are really cheap now though.
  6. Well, thanks so much you all, but I decided to go back to 10.5.2. Everything works for me and I'd just rather update later.
  7. Thanks. I haven't tried NVKush yet but I installed the 8600gt from my windows PC and the tearing and choppiness isn't as bad, but it's much worse than before the update. Quartz Extreme still isn't enabled.
  8. Thanks a lot guys. Sorry I'm such a n00b but what exactly do you mean by enabler and SMBIOS. I tried searching, but do you think you could just point me to a link? And would using a more powerful graphics card fix this or is it an issue with the kernel? BTW I have a Pentium E2180 2 GHz.
  9. I just installed the 10.5.4 update manually after a fresh install of Kalyway 10.5.2. It works fine, but there is a significant amount of choppiness when moving windows and opening the dashboard, etc. but before i installed the update it was fine. I was wondering if this problem can be fixed and if i t is being caused by the video card, which is a Geforce 5200 fx. I'm upgrading to a 7600gt anyway, but I want to make sure this problem isn't caused by anything else. I'm running at 1680x1050 and Vanilla. Also, about this mac shows that I have a 4 GHz processor when it is only 2 GHz. Is this a common issue? System profiler also shows "error while getting this information . . ." Any help? Edit: Well apparently Quartz Extreme is not supported anymore. I hope that's the only problem.

    Guide to install 10.5.4 update?

So will this work coming right from 10.5.2?
  11. You know, they're not using a decimal system to number each release. By saying 10.4.10, they mean that it is the tenth release of 10.4. That's why 10.4.11 didn't come before 10.4.2. I say OS ten. I can't STAND when people say OS ex. It just sounds unintelligent.

    Which video card to use?

I am using the exact same computer but it has a P4. I couldn't use the integrated graphics so I bought an FX5200 on Newegg. It was $52, though, but it works perfectly. I think you're gonna want to put some more RAM in. I'm using 1GB. I also use comcast and it wirks fine. I'm not sure if the modem works with OS X, but I use WiFi.
  13. Have you tried Craigslist yet? Usually local deals can be cheaper than eBay.
