sampledi
Ok, tested with 3 Gigabyte boards from P35 series (P35-DSR3, EP35-DS3, etc) - Every board with USB Audio, USB Mouse and USB keyboard. - Nvidia 8800GT 512, 8500GT 512, 8500GT 256 - Quads and Core 2 duo - 2, 4 and 8GB ram - Retail Leo (132 boot), than DSDT.aml and EFI v9 from Netkas - "Must Have" extensions in Extra folder: (AppleDecrypt, Disabler,OpenHaltRestart, SMBIOSResolver from Superhai) + to fix yellow HDD icons (if you want to) AHCI Legacy Kexts by cyclonefr (see recent post on Netkas blog: http://netkas.org/?p=80) 10.5.6 Update downloaded from Apple (372 mb) Update went smoothly, without any issues (rebooted with "-v -f" the first time, after one more restart 10.5.6 is up and running). QuickTime, Itunes, all video demanding pro apps are running fine, so I don't think there is an issue with QT or Nvidia drivers. For those who have problems with mouse lag, it has to be connected to something else. In last 48 hours I have found only 2 problems: - Sleep does not work anymore (I don't care about that) - GA board Firewire is not recognized in System Profile Also I can not understand one thing: there are so many people struggling with sound, PS2 keyboard and mouse after every update. USB versions of those devices are so cheep these days, I can not see any reason not to replace the problematic parts. Yoni Yoni
Reporting ATOM 330 My two Atom 330 are running fine here after the update. Download 10.5.6 from Apple's support site, install, restart, boot -v and that should be it. I haven't patched anything, I didn't have to perform any extra task. The only thing I haven't tested is the PS2 port after the latest update. You will need to re-install video drivers after the 10.5.6 update. (GMA950.pkg) Still no Mic! I can't really do much with GarageBand because I have never been able to get the Mic to work - Default Kalyway 10.5.2 installation + GMA950.pkg Any luck with the Mic? exy
Try these: http://rapidshare.de/files/41153635/AHCI_Fix_10_5_6.zip.html This solution does not work on all system. It worked on custom build. It didn't work on Lenovo T60. This is what I did 1) before update ->sudo cp -R Extensions Extensions.5.5 2) Follow the upgrade instructions === on reboot, it'll keep waiting for ROOT DEVICE : )) === 3) use Trnasmac or Paragon Rescue kit - 1> Rename Extensions/ to Extensions.5.6/ - 2> Rename Extensions.5.5/ to Extensions/ 4) Reboot! *** you should have working system *** 5) Copy over 5 or 6 newer .kext from Extensions.5.6/ to Extensions/ ( I checked file dates, Not sure if those kexts required or not, but did it anyway ) hopefully this will do, until someone find the rite solution. Edit: Maybe you'll have to wait for a solution.. can't find nothing more recent. There is no battery indication in 10.5.6 anymore. It is an issue in 10.5.6 which does also appear at every macbook, macbook pro and macbook air. It would be pretty retarded to run around with an extra keyboard to run OSX, OK? I was not talking about notebooks and that was not pointed to notebook users. I think that is very clear.... or maybe I should add a note under my post: "I'm talking about desktops. Notebook users, please do not run around with extra keyboard" ? I don't think that people on this forum need that kind of additional explanation. laatmaarzien
As I stated earlier, with retail update, I would lose some functionality such as sound, networks, etc. But this is due to DSDT translation of a particular motherboard BIOS. Some boards yield workable description table, some don't. Re-installing some old kexts may work for some boards. My testing is only limited to my board, which Asus P5K-E. But the point that I observe is this- why go through all that trouble with Vanilla (even though my board works with Vanilla OOTB) when the very essence getting updates to supposedly make your machine run better breaks it all. I have tried nearly all distros available simply because I had no fear of my motherboard rejecting any. But after it's all said and done, the queations hark back to the idea of how easy is it to maintain your computer to make it worth our effort. Isn't it why we try OS X in the first place? Image if Microsoft makes known their Vista core kernel? People would jump so fast to re-write it so we wouldn't be umbellically tied to some of their most idiotic services that hiccup all the time. But here we are using OS X with its root in FreeBSD hence the core Unix kernel. I think the developers of VooDoo are offering to the world something so beautiful but most of us fail to realize- the abiliity to use a modified OS X with all the functionalities offered by Apple. I also have trememndous respect for those who work tirelessly porting drivers/patches of newer video/sound/network components. But the most important thing is still the kernel. With their collective wisdom, the developing team can bring to bear adaptations of next chipsets. Hopefully in the near future compatibility issues may be the thing of the past once EFI makes it into mainstream PC architecture. That is if Apple+Intel don't use their muscle to squash the adoption. For now, people that still want 100% compatibility have very little choice over what boards to use. Don't think that the manufacturers don't know that. The prices of comp. boards are still higher (in the case most P35 boards). Yours is the same philosophy I subscribe to as well. In spite of owning and operating a very "vanilla" compatible MB, it is a grand hassle every time Apple releases a new update, running hither tither to figure out what all breaks with this version. As you pointed out, updates are ideally aimed to make things better, not break things apart, and though the argument "but we are not running Apple approved hardware" is tantalizingly paramount, with strides being made in the OSX86 arena, shouldn't one ideally support and foster efforts that try and bring the OS closer to the real thing for us users. I have great faith in the community though. And also in the future of VooDoo or such similar endeavors. Apple is surely cognizant of this community, and with each update they tighten the noose around the ease with which this community installs and uses OSX. The day is not far when VooDoo or such similar efforts will become the de-facto method of using OSX on non-Apple H/w. In the end it is a question of the ease of maintaining one's OS installation, may it be OSX, Windows, or Linux. Why must one constantly stress about keeping "vanilla" if the same functionaliy is to be had in an alternate way which has a number of benefits to boot. </rant> Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141093-1056-released/page/18/#findComment-1002941 Share on other sites
Kibitz
Could you please post or send me EFI strings that you are using for 8800gt ? You need to install (for example) the application "efistudio" and create the efi string with it yourselve for your graphic card. you can add an efi string for your network card and sound chip too, if needed. cyclonefr
Quicktime + Itunes makes VLC (and i guess other soft) lag with the 8800 GT (and probably 8600 GT too)... Plus i've lost sleep so im simply reinstalling 10.5.5 9F33.... 10.5.6 is nothing but problems for me, and for everybody saying their 8800 GT is working great, well yes it works great for Safari, but not for quicktime and itunes... The new drivers ARE broken so people that are saying otherwise didn't try hard enough : if you downgrade the nvidia kexts to 10.5.5, all problems are gone (except i still dont have sleep). So for epople that dont wanna downgrade quicktime, downgrading nvidia kexts works too. Hack is pushed to the limits and I can not see any harder test than that. Of course, I wouldn't like to run up on some issues later, so it would be good to see what is going on with Nvidia cards and 10.5.6. Btw.
