Q: Could you post your info.plist for hdaenabler.kext?

A: post-93383-1235482336_thumb.jpg

Q: Do you have the same in yours? or did you also change the IPPCIClassMatch key (and delete it...)

to the equivalent which you are using the the info.plist for AppleHDAController.kext info.plist file

A: before

post-93383-1235482535_thumb.jpg

try to test and it's working

post-93383-1235482572_thumb.jpg

Q: Where does the STRING (in HDAEnabler.kext info.plist) COME FROM?

A: post-93383-1235482749_thumb.jpg

Q: What is the correct LAYOUT ID which should be used ....

A: It can be any number. For ALC885(889A), if using default & not modify info.plist of HDAEnabler.kext, Audio ID in System Profile should be 12. If you define LayoutID of AppleHDAPlatformDriver.kext as 888, you have to define LayoutID of AppleHDAController.kext and HDAEnabler.kext as 888. 888 in HDAEnabler.kext must be data, using calculator from DEC of 888 to HEX 0x378 ==> data of <78030000>

Thank you posting your PCI Devices Listing. Your listing is different from Gigabyte. I also asked someone from the thread of Gigabyte's Nvidia 9400 ... to take a picture as shown below.

post-93383-1235481387_thumb.jpg

10DE 0AC0 is HDA controller id that is the same as you have.

1458 A102 is Gigabyte audio id that should be the same as Subsystem Id in Linux_Codec_Dump. But your system didn't show something like this. So, it's hard to get it done.

I was thinking your system's going to be like this. Maybe I was wrong about this.

10DE 0AC0

..........|__10063842

..................|__10DE0101

..................|__10EC0000

for Gigabyte

10DE 0AC0

..........|__1458 A102

Susbsystem id is different because different motherboard manufacturer, I think sometimes they have discrepancies with some device ids not being identified correctly:

My config for example:

[HDA Controller on PCI bus]:

8086:293E (Vendor: Intel / Device: ICH9 HDA Controller) | [A002:1458] (Subsys Device: ? / Subsys Vendor: Gigabyte)

[Codec1 on HDA bus]:

10EC:0885 (Vendor: Realtek / Device: ALC885/9) | ([1458:A002] (Subsys Vendor: Gigabyte | Subsys Device: ? )

His config could be:

[HDA Controller on PCI bus]:

10DE:0AC0 (Vendor: NVIDIA / Device: MCP79/7A HDA Controller) | [1006:3842] (Subsys Device: ? / Subsys Vendor: EVGA)

[Codec1 on HDA Bus]:

10DE:0007 (Vendor NVIDIA / Device: HDMI Audio] | [10DE:0101] (Subsys Vendor: NVIDIA / Subsys Device: ? )

[Codec2 on HDA Bus]:

10EC:0888 (Vendor Realtek / Device: ALC888] | [10EC:0000] (Subsys Vendor: Realtek / Subsys Device: ? )

His board doesnt match, NVIDIA HDMI Vendor could be NVIDIA but certainly not Realtek's...

What is it need for AppleHDA, subsys vendor id from HDA controller or from codec?

Not sure if its of any help, just trying to understand how AppleHDA works...

Why does the Subsys Vendor id is important? It will never be the same as Apple hardware...

Thanks @tmongkol

will try this asap and let you know

thanks for prior posts ... have worked with your edits (now that I can figure out how the pinconfig values for hdaenabler.kext info.plist were gotten, and edited the other kexts with values derived from my linux dump working audio (which also matched the values derived from the Vista Registry dumps) with those edits I still did not get 'real audio out' (yet... ) but noticed that even when I plug in an external headphone in front connector while viewiing the output panel in System Configuration Audio, the name of the device changes when I plug or unplug the headphones to and from Headphone ... so all of these things are being sensed correctly... I think the reason I still do not have real audio working is the 'connecting' of the pins to the correct port using the graphcodec chart etc... I am in process of trying that but I am color blind, and really am having a tough time following the reasoning when trying to connect the ports etc. as in that portion of the HowToPinConfig tutorial ... BUT , maybe when I try the file you just attached above, my problem will be solved ...

Thanks again ...

and yes, I do have both EXT and INT codecs enabled in BIOS on this motherboard ... (that is how everything works in Windows, and most of it works in Linux

@winktinkler

Try this 1.6.2a37_888.zip just added HDMI.

post-93383-1235578815_thumb.jpg

I took from Layouts--Items 43 of modified kext. HDMI is related to PathMaps--Item 30.

You can see CodecID of HDMI is 282984455 (DEC) = 0x10DE0007 (HEX).

Don't forget to enable Int Codec + Ext Codec and see what is going on.

I tried the file you uploaded 2 posts above .... but no luck with audio still .... same behaviour as I have described ... get POP's when I click on emptying Trash, or checking sounds in the System Preferences Audio screen with all of the default system sounds .... no luck

I then took 'my own verbs' and pinconfig derived from them and pasted them into the proper files ... still the same (the listing of available ports etc. does change, obviously, but no real sound, regardless of which output I use ...

It was a great thought to add the HDMI settings and edits etc as you did. I even check (with each attempt at changing etc. any info.plist settings in any of the files) the SPDIF out (RCA connector on my system, as well as optical, but have working SPDIF out on rear when in Vista, ... as well as standard Line Out in Vista.

I wonder ALONG THIS LINE OF THINKING if one should create a new post in this Sound section of the Hardware forums or just maybe in the general forum asking the question : Has anyone gotten HDMI equipped motherboards to work fully INCLUDING HDMI Audio and Video, as well as getting full sound working ? (Not just using Azalia audio and ignoring the more full capabilities of the CHIPSETs for audio) Do you think that is worth thinking about or 'refining' the question. I am a total noob here, so do not know enough to make the decision. Your thoughts ??

I am still guessing that it has to do with the 'connections' in the HowToPinConfig tutorial ... it almost has to be ... where the Nodes are NOT being pointed to the correct Number or port or whatever it is called ...

Thanks for the great help ... will keep trying ... am thinking about posting a reply on this forum, or maybe as a new thread (the Everest system in Windows Vista identifies the Codec as ALC888/1200 ..... ) and literally starting from scratch, taking step by step in the post, starting with Linux Dump .... arriving at the Hex file with the values I am using, and also taking the Vista Registry listing using Diabolik pastebin page, and entering in, (they are the same ... 'almost' .... some of the verbs have a 'last digit' differ ... ... then taking these and generating the Pinconfig for HDEnabler as per your instructions. Then taking and showing the human readable Pin settings using MacGirl's scripts, confirming, then generating the graphic file with the Node Mapping, and posting all of this here, and see if there is something there which someone can 'pick up on' and maybe make suggestion on what to change ... to make it work properly.

Thanks again ..

Just like to let everybody know, that with the patched ALC888 driver SP/DIF (digital out) together with HDAEnabler.kext is working with no problem on my gigabyte GA-EG31M-S2 (Rev.1) Mainboard (G31Chipset). Even DTS and AC3 is working after setting to "Encoded Digital Audio" .

Thanks for this nice patch ...

@tmongkol OR anyone who may be able to help with this

tmongkol has already spent a huge amount of his time trying to get me going on this ... numerous posts and answers and help on this thread alone ... thank you very much

OK, have been working with this for a few hours again ... the file in #154 did not do it for me EITHER as sent or with patching in my own codec values (see VERBS below etc. in this post which I used in some of my attempts to

get ALC888/1200 working)

See my signature below for details on System and Device ID's etc. as needed

I have started over from scratch again ... and also generated the svg file ( with codecgraph and Graphviz)

My QUESTION ? ....

How do I use the information from the GRAPH to correctly set the NODE connections in the proper plist file?

I think this is the last thing which has to be accomplished to get audio working and have read the threads in TheKings and patching appleHDA and other tutorials listed in your references at the start of this post, but am COMPLETELY confused as to what to do next ...

Did you try to test Digital Out with the one that got in System Profile and System Preferences?

Have you ever tried to use Voodoo kernel and AnV AppleSMBIOS.kext (see my signature)?

Somenoe's using ASUS P5N7A-VM got soundcard working by using taruga's patched AppleHDA.kext.

Did you try to test Digital Out with the one that got in System Profile and System Preferences?

YES ............. no go again, on 'SEVERAL' of the attempts using files you suggested, with and without edits,

and many variations, I get 'POP's' where there should be sounds.. i.e. emptying Trash,

copy and paste file, moving the speaker slider, beginnint to play an mp3 file, etc. BUT nothing else

With several of the KEXTS and EDITS I even get the 'sensing' function of the Headphone Jack, to work,

AND Sound POP's as described above on the headphones, AND if I have the System Audio menu open, where it shows the Outputs the NAME of the device changes back and forth from Speaker to Headphone as I insert and remove the pin from the front Jacks

Have you ever tried to use Voodoo kernel and AnV AppleSMBIOS.kext (see my signature)?

No the system is so stable and works so well with all other software, and hardware (firewire, usb, wireless

mouse and keyboard, etc. etc.) and has very good XBench scores, and great video, so I have not bothered to try.

I simply installed iPC OSX86 PPF5 final version, and using NVKush for video (others work also including NVDarwin, NVinject) ... all enabled and even EFI Strings (but slower XBench with this) ... also Azalia audio works (line out only HD stereo .. but I do not use it since I have been trying to get ALC888 to work

Somenoe's using ASUS P5N7A-VM got soundcard working by using taruga's patched AppleHDA.kext. Go to Kexts.com.

I have tried (a while back maybe 2 weeks ago last time, ) using Taruga Patch, and even the report at the end says all is ok, verified etc. or whatever the message is, I cannot recall, but have a screen cap somewhere ... so it did install but no Audio ... Maybe I will give this a clean try again ..

which Kext there would you suggest? (with ALC888/1200 and also HDMI equipped 730i Chipset motherboard)?

Also< I guess i would also patch in the correct device ID AND ADDRESSES for my system to whatever kext I woudl try somewhere in the file?

Thanks so much for all of your help. My mind is getting 'fried' from trying to work on this so much

@wingtinkler:

just another guess but if you have both codecs enabled maybe you should include the pins and verbs from the hdmi codec in the config.

I have the information from the Vista Registry file for the hdmi pins (I think ...)also one is the 0000 section ,the other is the 0007 section (which is the one patched in currently) .... the 0000 sections has fewer verbs

how would one do it? convert and get the string of hex values, then just concatenate them and place them both in the same place in the plist file config section?

I'm not the best one to answer, I'm just trying to learn how AppleHDA works, but I would say you can put them together, each verb has the codec address in the first bit so it wont overlap, I dont know about the order, I think it doesnt matter, not sure. You probably need to modify the layout and pathmaps accordingly.

Another maybe easier alternative would be disabling the hdmi codec completely, if thats indeed posible with that mobo...

Yes thats it, thank you!

So is it just a matter of choosing any combination of pin complex + mixer + output/input nodes among all the available ones?

I was assuming that I needed a specific combination of nodes from each path map?

Sorry, for replying so late, not reading this forum frequently at the moment...

In case of the driver, im NOT using the one from post #154 , but using the driver from post #72

I'm using this one from the Post #72:

"ALC888 Address 0 AppleHDA 1.6.2.a37 3 Anolog 1 Digital Outputs 2 Analog & 1 Digital inputs (Click to Download)"

Working with no Problem with my ALC888 Chipset and an extra Motherboard-to-Toslink-Bracket.

AC3, DTS, DigitalStereo , everything working :-)

Hi all,

I am new to OSX86. I am having problem to get sound working.

My H/W spec:

Gigabyte X48-DS4, Intel9 SATA chipset using ALC889a Intel HD audio

Nvidia 9800GTX video card, running an internal SPDIF cable, so I could stream sound thru HDMI.

OSX86 IPC 10.5.6 Final using Voodoo 9.5.0 Kernal.

I tried the 10.5.6_Fix kext, but still no sound coming out. Can anyone give me some help?

Thanks,

I have been following this thread for a couple weeks now and, like Yardie, I have a Dell Studio XPS desktop. I have looked at Yardie's configuration, followed the advice that others have provided to Yardie, and am having very similar problems.

I also have a quite odd situation as well. The ATI 3650 card that my computer came with has an HDMI port on it which I would like to use, however it's more important that I can get the built-in audio working first.

I've done a pci profile of my comp using osx86tools and found that the ATI HDMI port has a PCI ID of 0x1028aa20 and the motherboard audio ALC888 has a pci device ID of 0x80863a3e. It looks as though, from the "Available Devices" section, that the HDMI port on the Radeon is configured for all the pinouts despite the fact that I have not entered this information into the controller.kext for the HDMI device. Very odd.

SysProfile.tiff

And for some reason it thinks that the device ID for the onboard audio is 0x1028029c

SysProfile2.tiff

And for available outputs, here's what I get:

sound.tiff

Note that I do not get any sound on any of these interfaces. The AppleHDA kext that is attached to this post was patched with Taruga's AppleHDAPatcher 1.20 using Yardie's codec dump.

From the Pinconfig registry hive, the second section is 0007 and the first is 0000 (with Verb information, the first one is shorter than the 0007) I wonder if that would apply to the HDMI PORTION and could be of help? don't know but just mentioning in case this would give you (or some other expert) ability to work with that portion in attempt to get the HDMI side of verbs working ....

Many thanks ....

889A__.txtIs this that you want? See at bottom of the text file.

  • 2 weeks later...

Has anyone with ALC889a been able to get SPDIF working at all. On my motherboard there is a header for SPDIF out for hooking up to a video card. I'd like to be able to use it through the HDMI port on my video card. After going through pretty much every possible combination of kexts and patching with HDAPatcher I've not once seen the SPDIF listed in system preferences. However, HDAPatcher when loading the dump detects a SPDIF output and System Profiler says it is a combo connection. Anyone have any ideas?

must have made a little mistake somewhere as my sound preferences show 2 lineouts and 2 builtin internal mics. Thx again!

@soso!

Could you get pictures of input and output?

They should be like these pictures.

Is there a way to have 5 outputs instead of only 4, no matter if 1 input is deleted (like SPDIF IN) ?

@macgirl

I tried to have 5 outputs and deleted one input but it failed. So, I think I can get 4 maximum outputs of my ALC889A.
