ALC888 will not work, please help

@MonkeyJamboree I have same exact motherboard See my signature for some details I have tried to work on this for 2 months plus, with lots of help from tmongkol, the many hours of reading and trying different verbs, kexts, linux dumps, vista registry dumps etc etc the link to tmongkol's thread is here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=140941 BUT READ BELOW FIRST I have had 'dozens' of kexts and verbs combos which I have tried from some of same threads you mention, others edited by others trying to help me, etc. I am doing this from memory but I think the SECOND hardware address you refer to (multimedia device ? is the ROOT motherboard chipset address for the Multimedia Device (can see it a boot listing text in black screen before getting to the AHCI boot etc. in this system) ONLY thing I have been able to get to work for me is Audio OUT two different methods Method 1 Azalia Audio (Analog audio out, very high quality sound in my setup) from the rear connector1 search for this under my name, I posted some 'early' super noob posts a couple of months ago describing how to do this ... you may already know about this, in that case, my apologies for wasting your time see this link if desired .. for azalia audio out ... there are many others who have posted this type fix, and I cannot recall who figured it out a long time ago, so sorry about not giving credit .. or you can also see the link in my signature below ... second topic down when you get there http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...hp/t149712.html method described in codebox How To Get AppleAzaliaAudio WorkingNvidia Nforce 730i Chipset Motherboard near bottom of thread Method 2 ... suggested by diabolik replying to one of my questions in thread http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...=0#entry1100075 using some of frodokenny's files DIGITAL OUT ONLY works FANTASTIC sound quality, from the RCA Coax dIGITAL out spdif connector in the rear panel also ( I assume the Optical OUt would also work but have not tried but see light flashes etc. if I open optical cover) I posted a snippet on this in a thread where I posted many many noob posts and requests for help in tmongkol's thread about the ALC889 ... sometime in the last month ... you can go to that thread ... It was using something originally from frodokenny, and to best recollection, required using Taruga patcher method .. ... I am attaching what (I think ..) is the kext in use on my hackintosh (not home so not able to send you it) but will try here AppleHDA.kext.zip again see this link given by diabolik, the specific area you will have to find, i think again frodokenny within there in the udhfa thread ... http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...=0#entry1100075 i think http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=148416 Sorry to be vague but that is best I can do right now ... you can PM me is you need to and later when I get home (if neither of above solutions are satisfactory ... then sorry that is the best I have been able to do ... only stereo out, one analog (azalia) the other Digital. Also, if you come up with other solutions that allow other functionality would appreciate you keeping me in loop. tmongkol is trying to help with this still and working on it with other tools BTW what video are you using on the 730i NForce motherboard? (onboard or addon pciex or pci?) Good luck also
  2. I am not sure, but thanks tmongkol, and also you dpyro for continuing this work Not sure who last reply from you was directed at but I am 'butting in' to ask and try again .. I have (see my signature) an nForce 730i chipset based system, reportd as ALC888 and have spent at least 100 hours during the last 2 months trying to learn about this, and trying different verbs and methods. How close would the 889 kexts be to what mine would need? Would just changing the device IDs etc. maybe get some sound out? Any chance I could use the kexts you are planning to post on this thread and change some items to the ALC888 ID's etc. and perhaps get lucky? The only way I have gotten audio out is with Azalia (inly LIne out) and with a file from skippyretards threads that ONLY has Digital Audio Out and it works great with fantastic sound quality. But I am still trying. I have many posts (many 'noob' posts on this thread alone a while back that tmongkol has tried to help me with ... and others ...).

@Ayla Not sure if this might help, but have you tried running your system with External GPU? I assume you are using the internal GPU (9300?) ... if this does not apply to you, please my apologies ... otherwise, it would be a 'cheap' way to try it ... maybe $50 Nvidia 94xx or 9500 card, disable internal GPU on BIOS I run 4 GB and Have run 8GB on my system, using video card noted in my Signature, and extremely stable system, PHotoshop/multitasking, lightning fast, no issues (except slow USB transfer rates to and from USB sticks will be working on that) etc. etc. with never once a symptom like so many describe here. My MOBO is a 730i / 9300 nForce MOBO .... not ASUS etc. but I think they are basically the same board ... If my comment does not apply to your hardware, again my apologies ... posted this just in case ..
  4. @tmongkol Thanks for all your help, and everyone else ... DIGITAL OUT success with file suggested in thread for Asus 730i / 9300 Chipset motherboard (I have nForce 730i ... you are familiar ..) see my post in reply to DiaboliK suggestion I try frodokenny applehda fix posted in the same thread on earlier post ... http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...=0#entry1100075 --- BTW on reading of that thread last night I saw a post by you, regarding the HDMI dump for the 730i chipset MOBO I don't have a 'dump' PER SE but I posted above in some post the Vista Registry Pinconfig portion with both HDMI and ALC888 (INT and EXT) audio enabled on my BIOS and working fully in Vista ... From the Pinconfig registry hive, the second section is 0007 and the first is 0000 (with Verb information, the first one is shorter than the 0007) I wonder if that would apply to the HDMI PORTION and could be of help? don't know but just mentioning in case this would give you (or some other expert) ability to work with that portion in attempt to get the HDMI side of verbs working .... Many thanks ....
  5. @Kari_Juhani I am not an expert but I do think you can boot Vista in AHCI mode if you installed it in AHCI Mode to begin with assuming you installed on SATA Drive SEE LINKS AT BOTTOM HD won't show up in initial screen in BIOS but can be chosen specifically in the screen with Bootup Sequence preferences in BIOS, but first have to make sure you have rebooted with the BIOS already set to AHCI mode then re-enter BIOS and choose drive ... at least that is the way it worked for me I think it has to do with the 'hardware detection' phase of Vista (or NT or XP ... ) installation ?? and the settings written in the registry etc. for the drive where it is installed. Maybe there is someone out there who really understands this who can elaborate, and maybe 'fix' Vista (if installed on IDE partition ....) so that it will boot up as ACHI without having to do a full Vista Reinstall in that mode This way is more efficient, and I think 'faster' drive read/write is enabled than installing in IDE drive mode. Please someone correct me if I am wrong ... or elaborate ... I have come across threads talking about this somewhere ... Anyone? http://expertester.wordpress.com/2008/07/2...hci-windows-xp/ http://gfxonline.wordpress.com/2008/08/17/...ci-under-vista/ http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/244840-3...sata-ahci-vista from Microsoft KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

    Asus P5N7A-VM

@Udfah excuse noob question .... I assume a 'working Mac' means PCMac or Real Mac (either ?) @DiaboliK other 'pre planning questions ... after reading the posts you suggested to me last pm in links .. and to use the Udfah method ... and frodokenny audio fix On 730i BIOS ... (nForce MOBO not Asus) 9300 GPU either Always Enable OR Enable if NoEXT GPU Detected ... I assume Always Enable must be on to try and INSTALL using Udfah method (I have iPC 10.5.6 running already, plan to try on another partiiton or other HD) ... (I have nForce 8500GT 1GB PCIEx board running with NVKush currently in this system, AND using 4 GB RAM without any issues with RAM as I have read so many people have if above 2GB ... I assume the reason I am not having issues with 4GB ram is that I have an External GPU which I use ... I assume there will be Different steps to get "both GPU's working ... ???? suggestions will I need to do a lot more using the Udfah method to get both GPUs working? use NVKush or use the nonNVKush you mention in one of the posts I read last night? I read a comment you made somewhere in these threads about the great perf specs of the 9300

@DiaboliK Thanks, read both threads last night ... for quite a long long time .... planning to try you suggestion re frodokenny applehda.kext, dl'd it last pm while reading ... sounds promising IT WORKS IT WORKS ..... DIGITAL OUT ONLY .... ON SPDIF (COAXIAL REAR CONNECTOR, NOT ON OPTICAL CONNECTOR ON MY SYSTEM ... SEE JUST BELOW ... I GUESS THEY REALLY ARE THE 'SAME' DATA BEING SPLIT AND SENT OFF TO EITHER OPTICAL OUT OR COAX OUT on my Nforce 730i MOBO .... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ UPDATE: THANK YOU DIABOLIK, FRODOKENNY FIX YOU SUGGESTED WORKS .... DIGITAL AUDIO OUT, ONLY THIS IS GREAT FIRST TIME ON THE 730i THAT i get this to work. this written AFTER all stuff below, but leaving in just in case someone may have use or other thoughts/comments on info below or on Vista Registry info from my NForce 730i 9300 MOBO .. line out, mic in (front) do not work with frodokenny fix on this system, but Digital Out is best so far (only thing worked in past was Azalia THANKS THANKS THANKS ... Great work guys .. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a Vista (and also linux dump) pinconfig registry hive saved which has '2 sections' 0000 and 0007 with pinconfigs etc. for verb generation, and have used YOUR pastbin page several times with the 0007 (888 codec ) The other Verbs.... fewer verbs ... is for the 0000 segment .... does that imply that is for the HDMI 'Hardware' level portion (I guess the 'INTERNAL' codec ...) on the 730i??? see this link to a series of posts - with data if you wish ... for Vista REgistry Hive http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...0941&st=140 actually post 147 or see below in codebox .... Would this set of verbs be required also TO GET HDMI working . or just the longer set (for the 888 with identical end verbs to the Manual method of converting a CODEC to a verb list ..) ??? Should one have to try BOTH sets of VERBS SOMEWHERE in the plist files? What about addresses, should the addresses of BOTH THE alc888/1200 codec as well as the hardware address of the HDMI both be patched in somewhere? My mobo BIOS also has the Enable EXT, Enable INT, or Enable BOTH, or Disable BOTH in the Audio device enable/desable settings Have tried both ways different number of sound assertion errors at bootup in -v mode or in logs Have posted a lot of questions and gotten a lot of suggestions in tmongkol's thread on the 889 ... click on the Sound slider, or when I empty the trash, etc. but no 'real audio. no matter what I do. Have tried both the line out rear, the headphone front, and SPDIF Coaxial out (canot try the optical out on MOBO) BUT no luck ... What is funny, even when I 'plug in' a headphone in the front connector, if I do this while I am looking at the Output panel (tab 2) in System config, Audio segment, the name of the output changes from Speaker to Headphone or something like that, and when I remove it goes back to the default name. So the autosensing function is working I have tried so many different codec versions, manual, pastebin portions, addresses in the fields in the plist files, etc. etc. that it is not funny...

@Signal64 Have you had success yet with full audio on the 730i mobo's? I am reading this thread for the first time ... and have tried for over 6 weeks to get AppleHDA audio working on my 730i, no luck no matter what i have tried, other than Azalia out only ... thanks in advance

Thanks @DiaboliK BTW ... on the 730i Have you been able to get AppleHDA Audio to work or are you aware of a method that has ? what about HDMI and/or SPDIF out ? (Have nForce 730i Mobo, 9300 etc. Supposedly ALC888 audio from linux dump codec etc. and from Vista run on same MOBO) The only way that works for me (audio) is Azalia, the usual, only HD line out working

  14. @thorazine I have the information from the Vista Registry file for the hdmi pins (I think ...)also one is the 0000 section ,the other is the 0007 section (which is the one patched in currently) .... the 0000 sections has fewer verbs how would one do it? convert and get the string of hex values, then just concatenate them and place them both in the same place in the plist file config section?
  15. I have tried (a while back maybe 2 weeks ago last time, ) using Taruga Patch, and even the report at the end says all is ok, verified etc. or whatever the message is, I cannot recall, but have a screen cap somewhere ... so it did install but no Audio ... Maybe I will give this a clean try again .. which Kext there would you suggest? (with ALC888/1200 and also HDMI equipped 730i Chipset motherboard)? Also< I guess i would also patch in the correct device ID AND ADDRESSES for my system to whatever kext I woudl try somewhere in the file? Thanks so much for all of your help. My mind is getting 'fried' from trying to work on this so much
