Actually,

Lately I've been noticing some weird artifacts (small squares) that will appear for a few seconds and immediately disappear, sometimes when switching windows. It's nothing serious however, but this is also with QuartzGL installed.

Oh well.. it's a $220 Mac. I'm thrilled.

To get rid of all artifacts, I added a DSDT from Dr. Hurt's thread:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=143340

Specifically:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1031871

I used OcciJano's DSDT...

No artifacts, 100% running. All apps work.

Hope that helps,

Patrick

Which board? D945GCLF or the D945GCLF2?

first off thanks to everyone participating in this thread..

i have everything up ok so far.. my problem is this: i have a mixed network some mac and some pc. this new atom sys does not see other macs on my network, they only show up as windows PCs. on all of my other macs they each show up as 2 different computers (a pc and a mac connection point for each). but on the new atom sys they only show up as pc. but the atom shows up as both mac and pc on the other macs.

i have "wins" set to mshome like all the other computers, and i have appletalk turned on, on all the macs.

its not a big deal it just inhibits a few features like screen sharing and whatnot..

any ideas?

also, any one figure out how to get the video to work properly with the the s-video? if i use none of the video kext the s-video out works fine but the svga has a fixed resolution. and if i use the kext the svga is fine but the s-video is a blue screen.

Ha! I have the same problem! What installation are you running? My ATOM is ideneb 1.3 upgraded to 10.5.6, my other hack is retail 10.5.5 upgraded to 10.5.6.

My ATOM shows up on my other hack, but my other hack does not show up on my ATOM. I am thinking that the problem was with my other machine as it is not quite as stock as the ATOM. It would be helpful to have a real one around to see which side the problem is really on. I don't think you should (or need) Appletalk enabled, the macs find each other (i believe via bonjour protocol).

Let me know

This almost seems too easy, installing the retail, then the drivers. Also, are some of you not patching the DSDT? I never heard of it before, and am wondering if it really is necessary.

Nevertheless, I plan on following the 2.5 guide entirely, but instead using a 10.5.6 retail disc. I shouldn't come across any issues right?

Lastly, are any of you running IDE drives? Hopefully that's not an issue along the process.

i am using the boot-132 10.5 retail with the mac combo update to 10.5.6..

apparently this issue is a bonjour problem, caused by the network kext. someone turned me on to the "Psystar R1000" network driver . been fine ever since.

Lastly, are any of you running IDE drives? Hopefully that's not an issue along the process.

i am running my boot HD and CD/DVD on IDE, and a 1TB HD on each sata, and no problems at all.

I have installed the Retail 10.5.6 on both the GCLF and GCLF2 with the DSDT.aml mentioned above as opposed to building my own, and have had nothing but joy... one of the installs has an IDE dvdrom, that seems fine (however it was not used for the install).

can any one recommend a pci video card. that will let the atom sys play mkv smoothly?

There is a German G4 Cube project somewhere on these forums (insanelymac) where he used a flexible riser to install a video card in the PCI slot. I can't recall exactly, but I think it was a 6200...

I don't recall if the translated page said how well it performed.

Patrick

My build works fine on normal computer LCD monitors (17", 22") but when I attached it to my 42" 1080P LCD via VGA it won't display any video. Any thoughts?

My guess is that you're not feeding it usable video - the TV probably can't handle 1920x1200.

Try booting in Safe Mode (-x) and see if you see anything. Unfortunately, you can't change the video settings when in Safe Mode.

Perhaps while still connected to the computer monitor, set the resolution to a 720P - 1280x720 - then shut down, hook up to the TV, then boot.

Ok, since it was a 1080p set I thought it would support the 1920x1080 (or 1200, whatever) computer input but it doesn't. Apparently it will only take these:

1360 x 768, 1280 x 1024 (SXGA), 640 x 350, 800 x 600 (SVGA), 1440 x 900, 640 x 480 (VGA), 1024 x 768 (XGA)

I'll go and set the resolution to one of those and try again.

1440x900 and 1280x720 did not work. I will try 1360x768 and then 800x600.

None of the resolutions seem to work. Hmm. Strange.

For what its worth, it shows 800x600 when the machine POSTs and up to Chameleon. But after that it goes black and says "Mode not supported".

This also happens on my computer monitors, but normal video returns once OS X has booted to the desktop.

I set the "Native Boot Resolution" to 2560x1600 with Uinstaller...so I'm wondering if that is something to do with it.

Hey, the 6200 PCI works very well, but without sleep. I used every kext to get sleep but - same result! I've tried it with 1920x1200.It works!!!!

I think the sleep problem is relating to this old PCI System!

Sorry for my bad english :)

My CPU shows up 4Ghz with 10.5.6 retail!!!! Never mind!!

But you can change the settings via OSX86Tool. In my case I can't change the 4Ghz to 1,6Ghz.

I have written "Atom330" behind 4Ghz!!

Trial and error! :D

Have anybody tested the SPDIF digital out Port on the BOARD?

post-358890-1236076735_thumb.jpg

http://projects.loetaffe.de/index.php?opti...4&Itemid=12

...on this side (sorry its in german) you'll find some Info to this SPDIF-Port on the D945GCLF2 Board.

Think it works very well under Wind... but what about OSX?

It would be great to use a digital Audio Out on this little great Board.

@buschi2626

if I were a gambling man, i'd say that the spdif-out does not work at the moment. Currently, azalia only works with the rear-audio out. I've attempted to help create a ALC662 compatiible AppleHDA driver using the various info on the board (as have others), and I've tried nearly every single other ALC662 driver out there (created for some gigabyte/abit boards) but they just do not work for this board. the ports show up properly in system information but no sound is available.

I'm sure someone will figure it out eventually, and it will really make this machine a great little media-center PC.

Ok, so I really only have ONE issue with my little Atom Mac: Booting.

I used the munky's boot method, and it works great, but it requires me to hit enter at boot to fully boot into the os.

Is there any way to keep from having to hit enter at boot every time?

Thanks for the reply! and your post actually touches on an issue I just noticed. Though I installed with iAtkos 5i, I'm having this issue of where the computer doesn't see any other Mac. Connecting manually though "Connect to Server" works, but other services don't work, i.e. iTunes/iPhoto sharing. It all goes one way, tested with two computers, one a hack, one a real mac, They both see this atom build fine, but the atom build can't see either ones.

I will try this driver and report back. So all you did was install this Realtek Kext by Psystar?

EDIT: IT WORKED! Thank you very much! I was starting to feel hopeless

Has anyone been able to get the 1024x1280 resolution to work?

Or get the sleep function to work properly?

Hi adaseb..

I think the resolution your talking about is 1280x1024 not the other way around, and i confirm it works

For the sleep/resume thing...i confirm that too it works....so if u have issues resuming try installing the OpenHaltrestart.kext

Good luck

I followed this guide for my Foxconn 45CSX mini-itx motherboard and I can confirm that it works perfectly. I followed the guide to the letter and everything seems to be fine, except for sleep mode, I'll look into that later...

Hardware:

Foxconn 45CSX motherboard with Intel Atom 330 (same chipset as Intel D945GCLF2)

2GB PC5300 Kingston ValueRam

Samsung Spinpoint F1 640Gb SATA

Sony/Nec Optiarc 7200S SATA

http://www.foxconnchannel.com/Product/Moth...ID=en-us0000425

this motherboard is part of a Foxconn barebone which is called L10 or R10.

I purchased a Jetway Mini Barebones PC with the following motherboard:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813153131

..and it's been quite difficult to get it running.

I have managed to get 10.5.4 on it with MSIWindosx86.iso. No other method (generic.iso or boot132.iso + Retail Leopard Disc) works (installation immediately reboots after starting the Retail Leopard Disc Installation). After I get that working I update to Chameleon_DFE_for_Hard_Disk.pkg 1.012.

Updating the 10.5.4 MSIWindosx86 installation to 10.5.6 caused immediate reboots as well.

After a lot of trial and error, I determined that I had to boot with the "cpus=1" flag. This of course turned my Dual Core Atom 330 into a single core 230 with NO hyperthreading. :(

I know iATKOS has been recommended and I am attempting to d/l now (the Torrent is moving VERY slowly).

The part that really gets me is that this board seems to be virtually identical specs wise to the Intel that this thread is actually about, but I've had such headaches. I wonder what is so special about the MSIWindosx86 disc that I used that allowed me to boot with zero hassles? The kernal?

And yes, the price of the mb is much more expensive than the Intel one, which is surprising since it basically is the same unit (MINUS S-Video at that!!!). I ended up getting the barebones system (basically mb and case) for the price that Newegg is selling the MB alone for, so that's why I am trying to get this to work instead of just ditching it and sending it back.

At any rate, if anyone has any advice, I'd appreciate it. Like I said, I'm trying to get iATKOS but currently it says it's going to take two days. Apparently it's not a popular seed. :(
