After lurking in the forums for quite some time, I think it's about time I report my issues so far. At the very least, iDeneb v1.3 has given me my most successful OSX86 installation so far, however the erratic mouse behavior issue still comes back to haunt me just as it did on 10.5.2. As I'm not entirely sure which mouse issue everyone was refering to I'll describe both types I've encountered.

  1. A complete and sudden freeze of the USB mouse. No erratic behavior, just a sudden and complete freeze. This appears to accompany heavy disk I/O activity, however, I'm not so sure of this one.
  2. Mouse begins acting erratically at first suddenly moving quicker than it's supposed to, then freezing at random places and jumping around the screen. This seems to cooincide with moderate (continuous) network traffic and in my experience, happens when using the 3Com NIC mentioned below as well.

The only issue that's currently effecting me on iDeneb v1.3 is #2 at current. I've tried disabling HPET, legacy USB (this was needed for other things anyway...), etc to fix the issue without success. I've tried combinations of these options without success. At this point I'm quite interested to know if KellyKelly has solved her issues with erratic mouse behavior.

Information on the machine I'm running this on is as follows:

General:

Motherboard: MSI P6N-SLI

Northbridge: nForce 650i

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400, 2 cores at 2.13GHz (using stock speed)

Optical Drive: SONY DVD RW DW-G120A, IDE

Hard Drive (Mac OS X): Maxtor 6L080M0, 80GB capacity, SATA, Single partition, MBR

Current OS Installed: iDeneb 10.5.5 v1.3 (StageXNU 9.4.0 kernel)

Graphics Card: GeForce 8800 GTS, G80 based, 640MB VRAM, single PCI-E 16x slot, No SLI

PCI Cards:

Onkyo SE-200PCI (I only use this when I plug in the Linux drive)

3Com Corporation 3c905C-TX/TX-M based NIC (Primary NIC)

Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250

PCI-E Cards:

GeForce 8800 GTS, G80 based, 640MB VRAM, single PCI-E 16x slot (as mentioned above)

USB:

Voice Star VS5500 Bluetooth Adapter

Logitech G50 Gaming Mouse

Apple iPod Touch (16GB) (1st Generation)

PS/2:

IBM Model M (1984) (Lexmark manufactured)

Onboard Devices:

Audio: Realtek ALC 888 (6 plug + Digital)

LAN Chipset: Realtek based nForce Gigabit NIC (forget full chipset model...)

Firewire: 1 x 400 speed port (rear).

USB: 4 x USB 2.0 ports (rear).

OSX86 Install Details:

iDeneb 10.5.4 v1.3 (StageXNU 9.4.0)

No issues installing.

Only one issue running (see above).

If BIOS information is needed just ask, I'll write down everything at that point (I'm heading out to the store).

I still don't have a bootable VESA version of mac, I don't quite understand why it will not boot even with the previous posed ideneb settings.

Post your questions in my Series 7 nForce thread as this is the Pre-Series 7 nForce thread.......that way owners of the same MOBO as you may be able to help.....as I will try to do...... :D

I think it could be because you appear to be using a PS/2 keyboard and USB mouse.......PS/2 and USB is not a good combo for OS X.......try a wired USB keyboard and mouse combo for the installation phase and then install PS/2 patch afterwards......

I believe you're right. When I left after the post I picked up a PS/2 -> USB adapter for my keyboard. No issues since but I guess I'll give it a few days.

It would appear I spoke prematurely. Booted into Mac OS X again today and after downloading a few files, the mouse started moving eratically again before completely giving out. Back to the drawing board I guess. Any suggestions?

I suggest you install the Voodoo Release Version v1.0 kernel and then trying system booted with c1ramp=0.......if this helps with the erratic mouse behaviour, then put c1ramp=0 between <string></string> in the line below <key>Kernel Flags</key> in com.apple.Boot.plist.....

Hey all,

I have been trying to update to 10.5.6 over the past day or two, and I've run into one snag. Everything seems to work extremely well except for whenever I try and mount any image file. Any dmg I've tried to mount gives me an instant kernel panic. I've made sure that the kernel and the System.kext are the same "version", but it still does not work.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Try replacing 10.5.6 Seatbelt.kext with the 10.5.5 version.......

Does anyone else here have a problem with their netgear ga311 ethernet card dropping it's connection after a few minutes of heavy traffic? Normal browsing seems to be fine, but any large file transfers or downloads make my card loose its connection, and is only fixed by a reboot.

Can't say I have......since using slashack's nForceATA and Voodoo Release Version v1.0 kernel and c1ramp=0 in com.apple.Boot.plist, my system appears to be stable even when connected to Internet and active for many hours......

OK, so I tried the slashack nForceATA, and it would not let me read from my dvd drive, which was connected via a sata connection. However, I recently upgraded to 4GB of ram, and wanted to use his ata kext to take use of all 4 gigs. I got kernel panics whenever the ram usage went above 2GB. So, I re-connected things so that now my primary hard drive is sata, and my dvd drive is ata, and it works great with slashack's nforceata. Thanks for the tip. As to my ethernet, it still drops after heavy network usage, so I'm not sure what it is. I've been using a wireless usb adapter which works fine, but I wanted to use my gigabit connection to get some large files transferred. But anyways, I'm back to a nice stable system on 10.5.6.

Thanks

I'm having some issues when booting. I have installed it but it hangs on the Apple logo.

1. Your MOBO brand and model: ASRock Penryn1600SLI - 110Db

2. Your nForce Series 5 or 6 chipset: i650i

3. Your Intel CPU: Model, Core Quantity, Stock Speed and if Overclocked to what speed: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6700, 4 cores, 2.66GHz stock

4. Screen shots of your current BIOS settings if at all possible (as very helpful and in some/many cases essential.....)

5. Your DVDRW(s): TYPE - PATA [iDE] x1

6. Your hard drive(s): TYPE - PATA [iDE] x2 , SIZE 250Gb and 180Gb......

7. Hard drive PARTITION/FORMATTING: - 250Gb drive - 180Gb for Vista and 60Gb for Mac OS X, 180Gb not partitioned

8. Current OS's installed: Windows Vista. I wish to dual boot Mac OS X and Vista

9. Your graphics card(s): nvidia 8800GT 512Mb, NOT SLI

10. PCI/PCI-E cards fitted: Creative Audigy 2 ZS

11. Onboard devices/functions: Audio chipset, LAN chipset, Firewire x1, USB 2.0 x 4)

12. Leopard version: iAtkos i5 10.5.5

When installing, I must use the -v cpus=1. It will install fine, but I'm not too sure about the Customize options before installation. I've gone with my instincts but the furthest I have gotten is the Apple Logo with the spinning circle.

First check your BIOS settings against the recommended BIOS settings for 650i in the template in post #1.

How much RAM have you got installed on the MOBO?

Second when initially installing do not choose any video, network and audio options in the Customize menu.......first need to ensure that the basic OS X system is operating OK.....

Since you wish to dual boot, suggest you partition OS X volume as MBR and format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).......

Customize selections:

IATKOS Main System

Darwin Bootloader

Kernel 9.2.0 nForce Core EFI

AppleSMBIOS netkas

Remove Thermal kexts

nForce SATA

I've done that and checked the BIOS settings but I get the same outcome. I've noticed that if I boot with the cpus=1 flag, I get to the apple logo but the spinning circle will appear also, but it still hangs at this point

What happens when you boot with "-v cpus=1 maxmem=2048".........? If you always have to boot with cpus=1 it could be a DSDT/BIOS issue......see here and here.....

Hi

Got the initial install working fine, but no network (or [proper] graphics drivers).

After doing the updates -

KalywayUpdCombo10.5.2.pkg

Full_Gfx_Update_v1.1

nForce_Drivers_v1.2.mpkg

when I run any application, the mouse freezes and I have to push the big red button & turn off.

I know this is going to be a difficult one to diagnose....... (thanks for correct forum pointer)

You post suggests you have not yet installed OS X as you say it is still NTFS.......please clarify the boot screen origin ......from DVD boot or HDD boot?

Since you are multi-booting, your OS X volume is best set as Master Boot Record (MBR) and fomatted as Mac OS Extended Journaled.......

Have you got JMicron Controller mode set to AHCI or do you not have this option.....check your BIOS settings against 650i template in post #1 of this thread.....

sorry, my english is bad, i was trying dvd boot

well, i could sucessfully instal mac os here (leo4allv3 10.5.2), i was looking some threads on this forum, and i just typed cpus=1 that it loaded the os installer with no problem, but there is another problem (lol), i cant boot windows vista, only osx86 and it needs the dvd and this line "rd=disk0s6 cpus=1" to get in osx

here is how the hd is in osx

/dev/disk0
0: FDisk_partition_scheme 232.0gi disk0
1: Windows_NTFS 27gi disk0s1
2: Windowst_NTFS 47gi disk0s5
3: Apple_HFS disk0s6 40gi disk0s6
4: Windows_NTFS 117gi disk0s7

the first one its the main windows partition, the third is where osx is installed

Thanks very much verdant!

PS: sorry for my english
