Installed on my Dell E520, but Combo update broke the ICH8R patch.

Looks like the same problem we had in 10.5.3; if so I hope to post a solution tonight.

EDIT -- got root device by patching info.plist in IOAHCIFamily.kext and AppleAHCIPort.kext.

However system hangs on 1st boot shortly thereafter. Will post a fix when I have one.

EDIT -- delta update was easier to fix. Instructions here:

Well, if you downloaded the update via Software Update, it doesn't start installing until you tell it to reboot. So you could try going to terminal and typing the code, and then hit restart. I don't guarantee it will work, but if it doesn't you can always boot via install DVD and use terminal to remove the kext. Only takes 4 or 5 minutes.

So do i type all the code or just up to the line: "while sleep 1; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done"

When i tried to type in "nano /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1" i only got a blank file and could not work out how to "Replace the line Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext with dsmos.kext"

I finally downloaded the 10.5.5 "Client Patch" but Installer.app refuses to run it either on the OS X installation I have boot on ("RAID1") or an OS X installation on another disk ("Seagate1").

My installations are on GUID formated disks with Chameleon bootloaders and otherwise stock 10.5.4, with the exception of the following kexts:

dsmos.kext

IntelCPUPMDisabler.kext

SMBIOSEnabler.kext

Is anybody else running into this?

What is the problem? Solution? Any ideas?

EDIT:

I had to deal with some apparently unusually issues installing on the Intel BadAxe1: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...&pid=882049

I removed the three kext I added to my install and the problem remained.

So, I am being to suspect that this issue has to do with the "fdisk" commands or chameleon installation.

So anyways it looks like i was successful, well sorta ... It didnt exactly just come back and took 2 reboots but it's now all good, video card still works , This is with the GFX strings mod, i guess if you didnt do it this way you need to mess with nvinject again .

Small side affect which I haven't looked into why yet, system profiler can no longer display my configuration ,

Thanks for the response, but you did not answer my question.

There appear to be three 10.5.5 client updates available from Apple:

What is this 322 MB "Client Update" suppose to be for?

Well I'm not an expert on this so just trying to help as best I can . Both the patch & update are available from "Software Update" . Software Update looks at your hardware and offers you which ever one your hardware requires. As you likely know the much larger Combo update is only available as a download from Apple and lets you update from any version of 10.5 .

It's possible your hardware requires the larger Client Update since the Patch won't run . Sorry I can't be of more help .

I'm running vanilla kernel (10.5.2 kalyway install, system updated to 10.5.4 on a quadcore intel), and I've encountered a problem with DAVKit.framework. What happened was I had to reboot a couple of times (-f -v -x) before I finally manage to boot into normal mode, only to find Finder continuously crashing and a few programs cannot be launched (iCal, Mail).

This is how I managed to fix the problem, including the reference thread from apple.com which identified the problem:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=126309

After that single problem, so far it has been smooth sailing for me.

ok, just to make sure now, if i download the 10.5.5 update from the apple website, use pacifist to get rid of AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext from the package, will i be able to just run the update on my kalyway 10.5.4 install? (using vanilla kernel, chameleon efi)? or is there a chance that it will screw my install?

also, are there any other files in the package which i should get rid of before installing?

or do i just go for the netkas method?

Thats what I was thinking.... download the delta package open it with pacifist and remove AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and any other kext that might mess things up... and create a new package to install with.

Anybody know what kexts should definitely be removed...??

My rig is in my sig......

And I've installed using boot-132 with retail 10.5 and updated to 10.5.4

I doctored a couple kexts here and there to remove UUID errors and ACPI to fix my restart and sleep...

I got the "sign". And then I got wise- posting from 10.5.5 ;)

I installed with the update dmg after booting from a spare partition.

1. I installed onto my main drive from the spare partition.

2. Deleted intelcpupowermanagment.kext (easy from the spare partition!)

3. Reinstalled all kexts that I normally need. ( I didn't need to do this with 10.5.3 or 10.5.4)

REBOOT!

:)

Time Machine is Steve Job's gift to us hackintoshers....

I restored using time machine in hopes that it would solve my problem but not i get "CHAIN BOOTING ERROR" i tried

fdisk -e /dev/rdisk2

flag 1

quit

reboot

but that did'nt help at all.

Any Suggestions.

I had the same issue

I was able to boot with a 132 disk link

Then installed Chameleon_1.0.11_installer.zip to my OSX disk/partition....works like a dream

I tried this install, on a GA-EP35-DS3L which previously had 10.5.4 retail... I removed the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext, but it still won't boot. It always freezes after the line about "using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster buffer ...". Anyone have any ideas? I can access the files through a second install on another HD.

Well I've tried 10.5.5 twice now on my Gigabyte system (restoring each time from a backup image) and failed twice. The first time I tried Software Update, and the second I used the delta updater with Terminal script scanning for "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext", and in both cases the "You must restart..." doom and gloom notice came up halfway through the update. I think I'll wait for a more sure-fire install procedure (especially at 1 hour/restore...)

My question is this: if this happens to people halfway through the update and then they restore their system by booting from external drive or Install DVD and fixing things, aren't these people now running an incomplete 10.5.5 update since it never completed?

That is the question pondered here

They seem to be working and About This Mac shows update, but not sure

In my mind, the order of the update is the factor.......if main system updates before crash, then all that would be missing would be ?? updated drivers??.....sounds right

There is no way that the "Client Update" is for specific types of hardware, I suspect that the 10.5.5 "Client Update" works on some subset of 10.5.1-10.5.3, like a mini-combo update.
