Yeah just tried, exactly the same message, checksum invalid.

I am at a loss as to what the issue is (presuming the iso is OK) I have burnt from both osx and xp

Thanks for all the help (1 reply anyway)

I have the GA-P35-DS3R (rev1.0) motherboard, and I plan to do a boot-132 installation with the Retail Leopard DVD.

My question is: Since the thread was made 4 months ago, is this still the best method to do a retail install on my motherboard? Or is there something newer?

And while we're at it, does anyone what what's a good boot-132 iso for the P32-DS3R? And what kext packages?

Thanks in advance. :)

I would say this method is flawless. Their is not a single thing that does not work. Fully updated from apple 10.5.5. I got a qx6850 extreme 3.0 quad, 8gb of ram, 8800gt, velocity raptor 10k rpm hdd backed up to a time machine. Yea its a beast, I got all apps working such as aperture, cs3, iwork etc. The only thing that I cant get to work is my remote app on my iphone in itunes. Dunno what the problem is Itunes just doesn't see my phone. Of course when you plug it up all that works great, contacts, cals, music, etc..

If I was going to do another build I wouldn't change a thing, except maybe try RAID 0 on two raptor drives, backed to a time machine of course.

Hi you all,

I successfully installed OSX on my EP35-DS4 using the ELASTIC boot123 cd, and after that I upgraded the system to 1.5.5 and everythig crashed.

Since than I cannot install OSX using the original OSX anymore!!

I tried everything!!

- My bios settings are those used by ls8 (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=77165)

- My DVDROM is SATA

- I have 2 SATA and 1 IDE HDD (I tried also to detach the IDE)

- I have also a gigabyte 8400 GS NVIDIA

I got always the kernel-panic unable to find drivers for this platform \"ACPI\" , pointing to the file ACPIPlatformExpert.cpp

Do you have any glue of this problem?

Sorry for that, but I wanted to get some visibility among the people working with this method.

thanks a lot,

Dustin

Just one Question:

Can i also use this guide for the GA-EP35-DS4?

I've compared the P35-DS4 and the EP35-DS4 and found no differences - just the "Dynamic Energy Saver Technologie".

The chipset, Sound, LAN and FireWire have the same chips.

I hope, i can it use with your guide too?

TIA

@dustinspace

My system runs perfectly with the GA-EP35-DS4 mainboard - but without Retail-DVD.

boot-system-DVD: iDeneb 10.5.5 (i used IDE-DVD to install from)

partitions: GUID partition table (important)

Selections/Customizations

language: your language

Audio: ALC889

Chipset: "ICHx fixed" and JMicronATA

Kernel: none selected (Vanilla 9.5.0 is installed by default)

Network: none selected (work OOB)

Fix: AppleSMBIOS 800 (or none, not important)

Video: Nvidia: NVinject (or your choice depend of your VGA)

Apps: all

Installation-time about 40 minutes

Important: After first shutdown befor system starts remove install-DVD

Installation of correct VGA Driver-Settings

navigate to applications / iDeneb App, run EFI Studio and add your Videoadapter, safe your settings and close EFI Studio

Localisation

navigate to Settings under the Apple-Menu

select International

move your language to the top of the list

thats it.

My system starts without problems, its fast and stable.

Any questions more?

well keep us posted on what to do, also do you know anyone that has setup a RAID 0 or if its possible doing this setup.

I am thinking about getting another raptor drive and trying it.

Also I would have to set the time machine up in array as well because my disk space will double and Im not sure if that will work. I think im going to start playing around with disk array as soon as I graduate in a couple weeks. What kind of speed increase could one see with duel veliocy raptor 10k rpm setup in a RAID 0?

Also I am using the realtek1000.kext file in conjuction with my lan efi string and it fixed my sharing problems (iphone remote app, airtunes etc.) but the internet does not work or sharing work when recovered from sleep. You have to restart the unit to get the internet to work again. Is there a way to somehow fix that?

BTW: For me the Retail-Boot was not working.

I've tried some steps, some boot-cds, some OS-DVDs - everytime the same - doesnt work.

Therefore i used iDeneb for my System - and this works without problems.

How can i check my burned Retail-DVD for functionality?

Knows someone when the new version 10.5.6 comes out?

Sorry for my english - I'm german and i've learned english by myself.

Hello, thanks for the great guide!

I have a stupid problem with my ATA HDD. I had had Kalyway and Leo4all on it, and they worked perfectly, but I wanted to install Retail. So I boot, everything is fine, but my HDD is not recognised, I can see only my SATAII HDD which I can't install on it because it has too many partitions and is for Windows :)

Someone any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Worked perfectly on my system:

- GA-P35-DS3P (rev. 2) board (F 11)

- C2D 8500 @ 3.17 GHz

- 2 x 1GB DDR2 800 MHz

- XFX GeForce 7600 GT VGA

- SATA Pioneer DVR-215D

- Seagate 500 GB SATA HDD

Thanks for the great guide!

sbg, did you use the GA-P35-DS4 BOOT-132 iso? If not, which one did you use? I'm going to make another hackintosh but the GA-P35-DS4 board is no longer available. I need a good replacement, and the GA-P35-DS3P is the only one I am able to find so far. How do you like it?

The P35-DS3P has been working very well for me. Purchased the board in March 08.

Using S3 sleep, need to press the power button for wakeup.

For the installation, I used the P35-DS4 BOOT iso - worked very well. [with generic iso, the system would hang during the boot process].

Right now, there are only two small issues:

- system profiler shows the C2D E 8500 as unknown processor type at 3.17 GHz

- some installers (MS Silverlight and Lotus Notes) identify the system as Power PC and won't install Intel code

"system profiler shows the C2D E 8500 as unknown processor type at 3.17 GHz"

did you try the about my mac fix that cackintosh33 suggested on page 4? It fixed my q6850 extreme to showing up correctly.

O and silverlight will not install on mine gives the powerpc error. Thats the first time I have seen any issues, honestly who cares about ms silver light?

Where is 10.5.6????

hi all,

I've downloaded the boot 132 boot P35-DS4 CD along with the other files but i cant manage to boot succesfully.

Once i get to the boot prompt and insert the Retail disk and press enter it gives me:

EBIOS Error 0xbb

It doesnt like the BIOS or something?

I updated to F9 which seems to be the latest one out at the moment, but i cant find BIOS F13 anywhere!!!!

Perhaps someone could post a link?

Thanks very much!

Hi, just wanted to give a big thanks -_- to tseug for his great guide and other contributors to this thread. After just a couple hours of work (extended largely because I insisted on making image backups along the way), I'm 98% complete with my updated rig (this follows probably 20 hours of researching the forum trying to understand the best approach for my hardware - see sig). I'm running 10.5.5 and I seem to have all functionality.

A couple glitches:

- When I tried to boot from the DS4_ISO in the guide, I got a checksum error. In the forums I found others (not in this thread) had encountered the problem and Munky determined it was related to the filenames in the ISO were ALL CAPS; I used MagicISO in WinXP to fix the filenames. Then booting from the corrected ISO was fine. I don't understand why no one else in this thread had the issue...

- My WinXP rig is configured with the DS4's onboard RAID. To complete the OS X install, I had to change the 2 BIOS settings from RAID to AHCI. This, of course, disabled my RAID, a bummer cuz now I'm not using the 2 installed 750gb physical drives. In order to boot XP (which I still need to do occasionally), I need to go into BIOS and change those settings back to RAID from AHCI. Anybody have ideas on how to improve on this?

Finally, I need to implement a true dual boot solution. Currently, I enter the BIOS and switch the hard disk priority to determine XP or OS X.

THANKS AGAIN

priority just determines what hdd boots first.

Why not hit F12 or whatever brings up the boot menu and select the drive you would like to boot into.

I know this is pretty much doing the same thing but at least you dont have to go into the bios everytime you want to boot to a different drive.

What I do is have my mac as my first boot device and then vista64bit as the 2nd. Anytime I want to boot to vista I just hit f12 select my the hdd that has vista on it works.

Why not hit F12 or whatever brings up the boot menu and select the drive you would like to boot into.

But I have the issue of the RAID drives - right now, I need to change AHCI to RAID in the BIOS in order for Windows to run, it won't start if I leave the BIOS settings at AHCI.

I may end up just not having hardware RAID, though that was one of the attractions of this board.

Where is 10.5.6????

Fixing 'about this mac' is not a problem, works with OSX86Tools or other methods.

However, even with the correct 'about this mac' info , none of these methods fixes the install check/ Power PC identification issue.

BTW, regardless of what you think about MS, silverlight is the only way to Instant (online) Watch Netflix movies on a Mac.

But I have the issue of the RAID drives - right now, I need to change AHCI to RAID in the BIOS in order for Windows to run, it won't start if I leave the BIOS settings at AHCI.

How about installing an AHCI driver on your win system?

------------------------------------

Can someone please tell me where i could get the F13 BIOS? or an alternative BIOS to get this to boot.

I'm not sure I follow your suggestion - could you elaborate?

Isn't this the BIOS you're looking for http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherb...?ProductID=2638.

F in L! how did i not find that?!?! Thanks for that.

Download the drivers for AHCI functionality from gigabyte. Put them on a floppy disk. Restart. Put in windows CD and once it starts it'll say Press F6 to install a third party AHCI......driver, then you have to go on select it and continue with a new installation. I dont think you can install the driver from the desktop, bnut then yours is a rev2. If you have such an app then it'll be on the CD that came with the mobo.

I did the same on my system.

I installed that driver (SATA controller driver, page 87 in the manual) via floppy when I first setup my system (~Oct07). I'll have to double-check my notes, but I believe I selected Intel Matrix Storage Manager 32bit to enable the ICH9R controller in the "pre-install" steps. I installed XP on a non-RAID disk then setup 2 separate identical disks in RAID 0 to store data. For the XP install, it's possible I selected the AHCI choice, since I was installing XP on the non-RAID drive, unless doing so would prevent me from setting up ICH9R RAID on the data disks - otherwise, I would have selected the ICH9R RAID option, not AHCI.

But I'm still confused with where this is going - if I select AHCI in the BIOS, OS X operates fine. The problem is I don't have access to the 2 big data drives in RAID 0. And, to boot back on the XP side, I need to change the 2 AHCI settings in the BIOS back to RAID. What would re-installing the AHCI driver do for me?

THANKS
