tseug
Hi, First of all, I want to say thanks to tseug for posting this guide. I followed it to the letter and works really well. Uses all 8gb of RAM too. Just a thought, it might be worth adding BIOS screenshots in the 1st post so we know what the best settings are? Ls8 already posted BIOS screenshots, so I'll add another reference to his thread. Thanks for the suggestion. Guide updated.

slambucka
Hi All, I'm a newbie here i suppose and I've just built a machine following tseug's excellent guide but still i have some problems. First of all here's my setup -GA-P35-DS3L with F7 bios. (In BIOS Settings I have the No Execute protect turned on, the HPET controller enabled set to 64bit mode, have the C1E enabled, the TM2 enabled plus my normal overclocking settings enabled in the M.I.T. -Intel Q6600 2.4 1066 fsb guaranteed to run at 3 Ghz(well that's my first problem) - arctic pro 7 cooler -8GB Corsair ram at 800 Mhz - nVidia 8500 GT 512 RAM - 1 SATA HD - 1 SATA DVD ROM - 1 IDE HD So i'm having a LOT of kernel panics some reason. First i tried to overclock the CPU but it NEVER goes above 2.88. And at this speed the temp was around 60 degrees all the time. At 3 Ghz osx does not even start. It crashes at the grey screen. So i gave up on that. I read that the IDE hd causes the panics, so i unplugged it. I set the CPU fan to constant speed in BIOS so the temp is ok now. I havent had a panic with these settings for nearly an hour now, but i'll continue testing. If someone could help me out here what to do i would be very grateful. Cheers! woleium
My Hardware: GA-EP35-DS4, MSI 8800GT Great Guide! I followed it to the letter, using the Extension pack option. After rebooting i got the dreaded "Still waiting for root device" error, so i booted from the CD again, and used the GigabyteP35CC.app program from the PCWiz guide (http://######.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=105&Itemid=48), and everything worked great except sleep, but changing the mode to S3 in the bios seems to have fixed that. Cheers everyone, and hope this helps someone!
sickr1rider
hey I am having a hard time installing the ahci drivers for vista that was referred to in an earlier post. I have my mac setup on one drive and my vista on another. I want to be able to just hit f12 and select whatever hard drive to boot to without haveing to change the ahci settings in the bios. I have been to gigabytes website and tried to make the floppys and it says to hit f6 as windows is starting up to boot to floppy but it doesnt work for me. I have also installed everything I can find that was on the cd that came with the mobo. Could someone tell me how to install my ahci drivers for vista using a gigabyte p35-ds4 rev2.0 mobo? gradient
Just wanted to post and say that my install is working great. I have tons of software installed and it's working like a champ... I ran into one issue, with Time Machine. It wouldn't work with a GUID partition. I had to make it MBR, and Time Machine is now backing up fine. For sickr1der: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976 that's how I got my AHCI working.

macfr
Thanks, sure I will try it this weekend . Will I can update directly from Apple in the future? It will depend of the update. A lot of upadate can be done through Apple Software Update. For others, like system upgrade, you need to do it by hand.

chagani
Hi, Great guide... I am planning on using this to rebuild by hackint0sh using a bigger HDD (currently using Kalway). I have a question, will this method install boot-132 on my HDD? I read on the forums that with boot-132 you have a /Extra/Extensions folder leaving the OSX Extensions folder untouched which would make a true vanilla install. Ultimately, I would like to build my system this way. Would appreciate you thoughts on this. Regards, Chagani
100pies
Safe to upgrade to 10.5.5 then? Waiting for your answer... 100pies
Dewdman42
yea, but I had problems using the automatic software update. However, after downloading the combo update, it seems to work. But I did also boot from 132 and reinstall chameleon and the LS4 extension pack. Also I reinstalled the AppleSMBIOS that I was using. Anyway, its all working now. tseug
I've upgraded the install pack to 10.5.5. The check was there by design to avoid messing up the install, but since no kexts need upgrading, this is just the same files with a more lenient check. If you're upgrading from 10.5.4, you may have to remove or rename the /vanilla folder. Hi, Great guide... Regards, Chagani boot-132 is only used for initial boot-up and as a safety-net when upgrading in this install. The OSX Extension folder is most definitely touched, so if you like to install the new way, this guide is only partly usable.
Zaphod Beeblebrox
Hi, just wanted to say I used this method to install from a 10.5.4 install dvd and it worked very well. I had a little trouble with the combo 10.5.5 update booting, but it turns out I did not have AHCI enabled in bios. Once enabled everything booted fine. Thanks to all who made this possible!
