id honestly say leopard runs more than usable. web browsing is quick, music playback is slick for a netbook i dont see why you would want anything more ? size wize it is perfect for travelling. for me atleast. i go snowboarding alot and having this for the travel is so much better then my bigger hewlett packard.

gonna also try leopard tonight. see how much better it performs.

hmm...here's a windows geekbench score on the wind (837) http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/65720

perhaps something is funky with the extra RAM you installed? both of the 800+ scores had only the stock 1GB stick.

maybe happycar could run a test and help confirm these results? download link: http://www.primatelabs.ca/download/Geekbench2-MacOSX.dmg.gz

Well, you are running different versions of Geekbench and different versions of 10.5....

Geekbench Score 470

Version Geekbench 2.0.17

Platform Mac OS X x86 (32-bit)

Operating System Mac OS X 10.5.4 (Build 9E17)

Model iMac7,1

Memory 2.00 GB 0 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Geekbench Score 880

Version Geekbench 2.0.12

Platform Mac OS X x86 (32-bit)

Operating System Mac OS X 10.5.2 (Build 9C7010)

Model MacPro3,1 Memory 1.00 GB 0 MHz RAM

Perhaps 10.5.4 is halving your speed. Or you have some cruft from the install or something. Hard to say there. 880 is respectable....

I'm in Taiwan, so maybe I'll go down to computer alley and pick one of these puppies up..... Now a touchscreen mod would be the real hotness.

Also, your bus speed is showing up as being VERY different. That might factor in.

Try with just 1GB, see if that showes higher results.

I've noticed that more ram with Geekbench can actually decrease your score.

This has been true for me when upgrading from 4GB to 6GB DDR 800mhz. However it wasn't that dramatic of a result.

Make sure everything is EXACTLY the same on the systems.

--Be sure power is plugged into both

--Bluetooth on/off

--Running no apps in background

--Same version of Geekbench

--Same version of OS X

You all know you can get one from pc world now? But its got an advent badge on it! http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw...mp;page=Product

Pcworld's in london have them in stock now ... I think the other stores will have them tomorrow.

£279.99 is pretty damn good too

MSI Wind will also sell as...

1. MSI Wind - worldwide

2. Advent 4211 - UK

3. Medion Akoya - Germany

4. Ahtec Lug N011 - Spain, Belgium, Netherlands

5. Luvbook - Japan

someone on the msiwind.net forum got a hold of the linux driver for the WLAN card. I emailed realtek yesterday to see if they have a Mac driver as well--no response yet. Not sure if it will be of any use, but here's the linux driver: http://www.mediafire.com/?tmctfjmzbd9

You have to update your Bios !!!

It quite doubles my Score

Look and feel are a LOT faster with BIOS 1.05....

Here are my scores : http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/67336

I have the German OEM WIND called "Akoya".

Love my OSX on it :P

Odd, rebooted and re-ran, same result!

Here's Realtek's FTP driver site...might help with the Mac driver:

ftp://210.51.181.211/cn

There's a couple mac files in the wlan folder named:

Realtek_RTL8187_MacOS10.4_Driver_1309_UI1.5.1.zip

Realtek_RTL8187B_MacOS10.4_Driver_1117_UI_1.5.1A.zip

Not sure if those files help or not.

I did a sound card dump from Ubuntu on the MSI Wind. I've attached the dump here for anyone trying it out. I'm still downloading iATKOS 2.0. Will post more when I get it installed.

Interestingly, the Taiwanese version comes with Office 2007 installed as well as Windows XP, among other things (Acrobat, Winrar, Cyberlink DVD player).

Not too shabby. Total price here was NT$20,000 including an external USB bus-powered DVD burner. That's about US$550.

Wicked little machine.

msiwind.zip

I'm going to build a custom install disc for this laptop. I'm getting some help to get the WLAN working and what not. If anyone with this laptop is interested in helping me, please PM me.

Great idea !!

But , for example , in Europe there are MSI Wind U100's clones ( Akoya and Advent ) . They are similar to MSI WIND U100 , but seems WLAN is different :

- MSI : Realtek RTL8187SE ( No driver available yet ) .

- Akoya: Apparently it is a Ralink RT2790 (different from MSI Wind) . This WLAN seems work with Leopard .

- Advent : ???? ( I dont' Know )

I hope to buy MSI WIND this week ...

I want this MAC-Netbook.... :D

how does this system run with firefox (10tabs), MS2007 Word, excel (2documents) and skype for example?

does it feel laggy? or is there no difference in speed

I would say it's okay, I do not use skype but Trillian or ProteusX and it feels ok. An upgrade to 2 GB RAM would be a good deal, but ... some years ago our systems where even slower and we used it even so ;-)

Running Kalyway 10.5.2 (akoya)

Geekbench

Bios 1.04 470

Bios 1.05 917 ( :D )

Xbench Bios 1.05 47

Seeems smooth to me. Webcam doesnt really work(turns on but no picture) wifi works but looses connection upon restart/sleep(ralink). In/out jack doesn't work. Built in mic doesn't work. Everyting else working fine.

The Advent has the same Realtek RTL8187SE as the MSI.

My webcam works fine in PhotoBooth, though I'm having a little trouble with ethernet. If I boot with a network cable connected, it works fine. If I plug a cable after boot, Network Preferences just reports that no cable is connected. Is it working correctly for you?
