this is a great thread!

Has anyone been able to get a PCI express mobility laptop ATI card to work?

(X300 or X600?)

thanks!

I tried this a few week ago on my x200. Device ID was 5a62. I figured it was pretty close to 5b62 but it didn't work.

ati x800gt pcie with id 554b, doesn't work, (for me)

while checking out devices id's however, i saw (in windows) that the secondary device had a different id, 556b.

perhaps this general information might be used in your patch to detect secondary displays? :)

Sorry, here is the fixed patch.

Everyone should try whose device id is below 5b60 and the previous not OK.

Cheers,

ati x800gt working. :(:D

i didn't know anything could please me so much! even with those graphical things i've been hearing about. thanks!

don't know if it's much better than gma900 as far as speed goes, but not having to switch video connections when booting

to windows is a big deal. guess lots of tweaking ahead. :dev:

rjtd, my x800gt has a r423 chip! don't know how upset to be about this now. ;)

used his second patch, koverg-patch9700-v0.2.

edit: from Anandtech, "There is absolutely no architectural difference between these new chips and the original R423 on which they are based." so i'll not be too pissed as i'm not going to overclock. but if i'd known... grrrr. ;)

Just for the sake of interest I tried this one on Radeon 9000 AGP card. Unloaded the active ATIRadeon8500.kext and loaded patched ATIRadeon9700.kext. And what happened was just what I expected - the screen froze up ;) So I guess I'll have to stick with that crapy ATIRadeon8500.kext in VESA...

I wonder would this work on a Radeon 9600 (and up) AGP card or is this PCI-E only?

x300 mobility works GREAT!!!! so happy ;)

thanks so much for the patch

Darkcube, I too have the Mobility X300, but I couldn't get the patch to work!

What's your device ID? Mine is 0x5460

What ATIRadeon9700.kext are you using, 10.4.3/4/5?

Thanks ;)

Thanks a million Koverg :guitar:

I am happy to report yet another success!

Using koverg-patch9700-v0.2

OSX 10.4.3

ATI Radeon x300 Mobility (device ID 0x5460)

patched ATIRadeon9700.kext (10.4.3)

Now CI and QE are both supported!!!

However I only see one available resolution in the monitor control panel (1600x1200x32) and System Profiler still reports my GPU as a 'VGA-Compatible Controller'... but I don't care! CI and QE both wooork :guitar:

Thanks :gun:Korverg :gun:

It works with my X300 on Thinkpad T43!

However, the X300 on my laptop has only 64MB RAM but it reports as VRAM(Total) 128MB, is this normal?

Also, I'd like to know how to fix the mouse problem.

Thanks heaps koverg! :)
