I tried to install OS X El Capitan on my PC and laptop, and so far everything seems to work fine.

However, AppleHDA sound driver may become problematic on desktop.

Brief hardware configurations:

PC: i3-530/MSI H55M-P32/GTX460/RTL8111D/ALC888

Laptop: i3-380M/ASUS H55/AMD6370M/BCM4322/CX20585

I made a new patched driver based on native AppleHDA driver on 10.11 DB1, and my CX20585 works fine.

However, when I tried to patch ALC888, I found that some codec ids such as 0x10EC0855 0x11D41984 are missing.(My bad)

So it seems that AppleHDA binary has changed a lot.

I reinstalled an old version (OS X 10.10.3) of AppleHDA.kext and ALC888 worked again.

So is there anyone who make their desktop audio work properly by using 10.11 DB1's AppleHDA?

Any suggestions?  :)  Thanks in advance.

Update 1 @ 2015.06.10

OK, I solved my ALC888 audio issue.

Apple added a new codec id 0x11D41983 in AppleHDA binary.

If you are replacing 0x11D41984 with your codec id, please make sure that you disable 0x11D41983 codec. (Thanks to @lisai9093)

You can either modify the binary by Hex Editor or use Clover's KextsToPatch.

Name

AppleHDA

Find

Replace

I modified toleda's audioALC script to support OS X 10.11 and I can confirm it works for ALC888 on OS X El Capitan.

Update 2 @ 2015.06.15

new patch-hda script with OS X 10.11 supported: 41F by pokenguyen.

new audio_RealtekALC script with OS X 10.11 supported: 42F by me.

Note that Intel HD Graphics 4600 HDMI Audio in 10.11 is not supported by this script.

I don't have HD4600 now so I cannot test whether the previous patch is still working.

If you have HD4600, you can try it and post a feedback. :) Thanks in advance.

google found your website : https://www.firewolf.science/2015/06/realtek-alc888-os-x-el-capitan-patched-applehda-audio-driver/

and we have the same chipset audio .

i used Kext_Utility.app.v2.6.4 to install the file AppleHDA.kext , added  rootless=0 and also hdaenabled in the config of chameleon/Enoch Bootloader

but i have no audio...any help ?

My friend has GA-G31M-ES2L board.  Everything work except audio.  Audio is Realtek ALC883/888B.  Not sure if AppleHDA-272.50.31-ALC883.zip or AppleHDA-272.50.31-ALC888.zip will be the same and work?

Can I place that in Clover Kerxt folder or need to be in S/L/E and delete original AppleHDA?  I use audio_cloverALC-110.command.zip but maybe I not answer correctly that's y it's not working

Got Audio (Realtek ALC883/888b) to work using audio_cloverALC-110.command.zip for onboard GA-G31M-ES2L Rev2.0.  What I did just in case other think it's useful.

1. Mount EFI using Terminal

2. Edit config.plist-->Device-->Audio-->Inject-->1

3. Extract audio_cloverALC-110.command.zip then run the command

4. Enter you password

5. Then answer a series of question.

  • ALC888 --> y
  • Enable HDxxx HDMI--> n
  • Audio ID: 0 not supportrf --> y
  • Clover audio ID inject --> y
  • Use Audio ID:0 --> n
  • Select Audio ID:-->1

Fully working.

I have an Acer Aspire V3-772G that uses the same audio codec. Changing Layout3 to 28 enabled mic on mine. I can't guaranty it will work on yours but who knows ?

It's a patched AppleHDA made with AppleHDA Patcher so you should have everything you need in MironeAudio folder. Of course, you'll have to edit your DSDT and/or config.plist > devices > audio > 28.

Hope this help :).

PS : I assume you're running OS X 10.11.3 otherwise, you'll need to provide a vanilla AppleHDA of your current OS X version.
