so far, what are the steps to get this install going? is it as simple as golden austin said?

1. Copy a retail SL disc over to a flash drive

2. Install Chameleon RC3

3. Patch it for i5 support. http://www.sendspace.com/file/ak0769

4. Run 10.6.2 update

I'll be running p55-ud3r, i5, and 4850. what kexts do I need and how do i install them? i'm a total noob.

I'd like to know too. also Is there something I should consider since I have an asus p7p55d and that I will use my computer for working in a daw environment. I have my lynx L22 card. I don't plan to use it for a network use. Could I consider myself in an easy install setup?

Thanks to all who are working hard.

ok after further experiments, i feel it is easier to copy retail SL to flash drive and then run the myHack RC4.1; also adding the choco kernal. but my question is:

1. Is there anything else i need to include in the usb for audio, lan, and my 4850 in terms of kext?

2. Is there anything additional that i must select in customize in the myHack?

3. Should i replace the boot made by the myHack with the i5 boot?

Again, i'll be running the p55-ud3r, i5, and 4850. Thanks in advance for all the people who have been working hard to make this happen. been reading ALOT since october. Good progress...

1) The GA-P55M-UD2 is marked as tested and fully functional in my parts guide... you do know that it is a Micro-ATX board however, right?

Yes. From everything I've seen, there's no reason not to get it - I don't foresee myself using any of the extra PCI slots in a full size board. I'm going to get a mid-tower to fit the video card, etc. though. Is there something I'm missing here that I should know?

2) I think that the card you have is fine, but I really don't know for sure if it works perfectly... I limit myself to GTX 2xx cards and all the Radeons that are (or have been) in existing/previous Macs when I design builds for the sake of simplicity and support. If I were you I would either step down to a 4850 and play it safe or stay with a 4870 assuming there is good enough support. Anyone else know how well a 4870 works? I would like to know too...

On your advice, I'm going to go with an MSI GTX 260. There's a combo deal, so it just costs $20 more than the 4870; a small price to pay for increased simplicity and support.

In any case, good luck! Getting one of these set up must be exciting... update us when you have it up and running :(

At this point, more terrifying and stressful - you have to make so many decisions to build one of these! I've also never built a computer from scratch, so there are definitely some first-time jitters. But I'll be sure to post how things go! Thanks so much for your help and all of the info you've put up here - it's a huge help!

Awesome! I can Report success too.

I have SL 10.6.2 (64Bit, Vanilla-Kernel) running on my Gigabyte P55M-UD2 with 8GB Hyper-X 1333 RAM and a NVIDIA 8800GT card.

I followed several Tutorials, but mostly i followed the trail of tonymacx86 in this thread - Thanks man!

So, what to do to install? Here a short-rundown list how i did it.

  • make sure you have set your bios to AHCI not IDE for the HDs
  • build a usb-stick with the 10.6 Retail-Install ( i did it on my macbook)
  • copy the files from tonymacs folder (may not work with other mobos)
  • housekeeping on the usb-drive (chown, etc.)
  • download the 10.6.2 combo installer from apple
  • install SL-Retail from the stick onto your rig (choose any options you want)
  • after install remove the hd from your rig and connect it to your mac (usb, firewire, etc.)
  • install the 10.6.2 combo-updater over the SL-Install
  • now add the extra-folder, bootfile, needed kexts to your updated SL-HD
  • Housekeeping on your SL-HD (repair permissions, rebuild kextcache, etc.)
  • in Terminal add bootblock from chameleon to your HD (don't use the bootfile, keep that from tonymacs folder)
  • your fresh 10.6.2 HD should now able to boot from your rig
  • if it boots make a backup from your Install on a spare HD with superduper or carboncopy-cloner

Trash or rename the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext or you see kernel panics, also sleepenabler.

Maybe i will go into more detail later on. I wrote this directly after the successful install, what works so far:

  • sound (optical is listed, haven't tested yet, analog works)
  • ethernet
  • sleep
  • shutdown
  • System-Info is mostly correct, have to finetune some.

So, this just from the top of my head, i will come back with more and will do several more installs to get a save install-habit for later on.

I'm really glad i did this step instead buying a 27" Quad-iMac. Now i have a small and stylish macbook for several occassions and additionally a workhorse with i5, without the limitations of the iMac (OK, screen is 24" instead 27", but i can live with that).

Hope this helps someone a bit. Here several links which were useful to me:

http://prasys.co.cc/2009/08/installing-sno...pard-for-osx86/

http://osx86.sojugarden.com/installer/

http://www.mbel.tk/

http://netkas.org/ (for update to 10.6.2)

so i ran the flash drive with the myHack install. it starts, i see the myHack screen then all i see is a white screen. Then a couple really small black lines within the white screen, then the full white screen again. I had the graphics enabler installed. any ideas?

EDIT: replaced alot of the stuff with tony's files from his zip folder and also added the qoopz kernal. same result...

  • System-Info is mostly correct, have to finetune some.

How did you get the processor to list correctly? Mine shows as a "2.83 GHz Unknown"...

Also, what kext did you use for the sleep to work? Could you provide a link? :thumbsup_anim:

P.S.

Did anyone encounter a problem where Time Machine simply says "Waiting to Backup" instead of actually backing up?

[*]after install remove the hd from your rig and connect it to your mac (usb, firewire, etc.)

[*]install the 10.6.2 combo-updater over the SL-Install

Hey, that sounds pretty nice, but I neither have an Intel Mac nor a FW/USB to S-ATA bridge interface lying around. (I could borrow a Macbook and I have an external USB/Firewire hard disk, which you can't open just like that... Do I really have to gamble around with internal hard disks? I thought I can put everything I need on an USB stick?

When you're venturing into the unknown, doing things of debatable legality, you gotta take risks sometimes. You're just lucky you don't need to spend any extra money.

You've got your spare HDD, you've got your borrowed macbook. Crack open that external HDD case. You can put it back and glue it up when you're done. Or buy a new cheap HDD if you really don't want to touch your external.

Just had a thought - if you already have OSX up on your hackintosh, you might be able to boot from firewire, which may or may not be helpful. Also depends on if the mobo is able to support it.

worth noting - I installed 10.6.2 without any external HD. Just download the combo and run it.

hi profdre,

it's the way I have done it in my first install, it's not the best or the easiest way possible, you sure can do it any other way you like! As dorkiaa reported, it may simply work to download the combo-updater after your first boot and update.

'cause i have the hardware at hand, i used it and prepared the hd on my running macbook. I may try other methods in the following days as i finetune my install.

@dorkiaa:at first it looked that sleep work, but after a long sleep i was unable to wake the machine up, so sleep don't work right now for me. My processor is also listed as unknown, so this has to be worked on too. Haven't tested TmeMaschine.

@d3ntynice: chocolate-kernel did not fully work for me, i used the i5boot from tonymac. I installed my kexts for ethernet, audio, grapics after the usb-install and after the combo-update to 10.6.2. dunno if ati-card needs other handling.

Quick question to all readers:

Can anyone find any conclusive evidence that the following Intel boards are supported (even if things like profiler, sync, and sleep are buggy)?

They are:

Intel BOXDP55WB

Intel BOXDP55KG

Intel BOXDP55WG

Intel BOXDP55SB

I can only find that, theoretically, all of them should work, since they use "supported" LAN, Audio and whatnot, but after a bit of research I can't find a build with any of these!

Help would be fantastic - Thanks

VGM10000

I've got vanilla 10.6.2 working on DP55KG, but:

- no sound (I really wonder wtf, cuz it's just the same as GA mb's have...)

- no LAN (talking about your hardware guide, why do you think Intel 82578DC is supported?)

Any ideas what kexts should I use? Your help is highly appreciated.

Hello, I have not luck with Intel DP55WB and i7 860, both mobos are the same.

Can you help me please?

What bootloader did you use, kext, etc.?

Thanks.

I've used myHack + 29$ DVD + 10.6.2 combo, as follows:

1) Prepare USB drive as described here: http://osx86.sojugarden.com/installer/

Note: USE CHOCO KERNEL! 10.6.0 does not support P55.

Note: If you have GTX 295 (as I do), do not check GraphicsEnabler. You'll have to start with VESA.

2) Download 10.6.2 combo update from support.apple.com and put the DMG file on the same USB drive.

3) Boot from USB (do NOT use any additional boot parameters, as busratio).

Note: Make sure you've got your USB drive having the highest boot priority in BIOS.

Note: Make sure you've got AHCI mode enabled in BIOS.

4) Install OSX on your hardrive.

Note: Ignore failure massage in the end of the process. Just reboot and that's it.

5) Boot for the first time using the same USB stick. Choosing to boot from HDD will result into error message saying something like "Choco kernel not found". Choose USB drive instead, and you'll get your OSX installation booted for the first time.

6) Install the combo update.

Note: DO NOT REBOOT after the update is installed.

7) Run myHack from the USB drive and install all the default stuff on the OSX HDD.

Note: DO NOT install choco kernel this time!

8) Unmount the USB, reboot, enjoy :)

Note: Make sure that you have OSX drive having the highest boot priority in BIOS.

I still have problems:

- enabling graphics (GTX 295)

- enabling LAN

- enabling HDA

Any help is highly appreciated.

Any of the motherboards in the parts guide (v0.2 is out at the moment, I plan to release 1.0 by Sunday) should work well. As for cases, it is pretty much what you prefer... Looking at the reviews is a much better way of knowing the true interior space of a chassis though; if someone notices that the graphics are cramped, they will dutifully say so.

When it comes to the graphics cards themselves fitting inside a M-ATX case, I always point out that there is "fitting" and there is "working". It is really impractical to make a tiny rig that needs to be a graphics powerhouse, and I find that you have a ceiling of the Radeon HD 4770 or the GTX 260 before the amount of complaints about the size of the card spike. If you go any larger, prepare to remove HD cages and spend a little extra on a modular PSU.

The good news is that because it is smaller, theoretically airflow should be greater. Adding an extra fan can do wonders.

Just a quick notification -

I am looking to see if there are any people willing to work on a foolproof guide for the installation of 10.6.2 on the P55 chipset. The project would be a collaboration, and I can almost guarantee that you would have to put at least SOME time into compiling a step-by-step process as to how you got SL working on your particular machine.

The goal would be to have a general guide that most people could easily follow, that would apply to a majority of the possible configurations out there. This would include all necessary links to required downloads and kudos to those who deserve it.

I am not sure two distinct guides for the i5 and i7 would be needed, but it might be more helpful.

It would be great if anyone out there who knows enough code to write an installer could help so that the process could be more automated, but I understand that it might be a stretch... I know from experience that even the simplest of software takes a lot of effort to write and debug.

Anyhow, if you are interested in helping, just reply saying so! I really want to make a P55 hackintosh both lucrative (which it already is) and easy to build, and I know it can be done.

- VGM10000

There is really no need to write a detailed guide at this point, as soon as one of us can get our hands on 10.6.2 retail disc we should be able to use Empire EFI to do the installation. Can't wait!

You can fix the CPU and other various System Profiler info using OSX86Tools.

Hello, Thanks for your help, but i have problem in the step 5. You said: Boot for the first time using the same USB stick. Choosing to boot from HDD will result into error message saying something like "Choco kernel not found". Choose USB drive instead, and you'll get your OSX installation booted for the first time. But I choose the usb drive and start mac os X install window, and if I select The Macintosh HD with SL 10.6.0 I have "Choco Kernel Not found". My Snow Leopard Installation don´t start, Help me Please.

Thanks

Hi guys

i just fallow the steps of tony mac and i installed SL 10.6 correctly but then after working whit the system for a few days i tried to update to 10.6.2 and right now i can not get any more in to the system, this is what i did:

First install update combo 10.6.2

then i run kext utility

then i restarted my computer

right now i am hold at this

Mac os version:

10C540

Kernel Version: 10.2.0

System Uptime in nanoseconds: 20661794999

did i miss somthing?

Thanks

I've also had good luck with the Gigabyte P55-UD4P using the 10.5.8 Voodoo Kernel. Sleep doesn't work.

Cornbread,

The issue with the iPhone has been resolved by new BIOS update F4 for for my mobo P55M-UD4. I believe there is also update for your model.

You need to hit a key at the Chameleon boot screen and then use the flag arch=i386 to get the system to boot to 32bit mode. Then you will then need to update some Kexts with 64bit versions. Once that is done you can add the flag arch=x86_64 and the system should boot to 64bit mode. Tonymac has some more detailed info on this here.

Thank you very much jhenley01 it worked :D

but now i have some problems the first one is that my video card is not working with two monitors (one is like bluish and the other one changes the colors  ) if i boot with only one conected then 1 is ok if i conected the other one after booting and i detect the monitors the other one remains with the light blue color. my card is a Zotac Geforce 9500 GT 1GB

The other problem is that if i restart the computer it does not restarts, is just black and it does not turn off.

I also read that that in the P55M-UD2 sleep was working but mine is not.

I installed the same kexts as Tonymacx86

EvOreboot.kext (instead of Psystar's openhaltrestart.kext)

fakesmc.kext

IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext

JMicronATA.kext

LegacyHDA_ALC888B.kext

NullCPUPowerManagement.kext

PlatformUUID.kext

SleepEnabler.kext (not working yet, but testing)

Also in /System/Library/Extensions I have:

NVEnabler_64.kext (64 bit)

RealtekR1000SL.kext (64 bit)

AppleHDA.kext (from 10.6.1)

My Specs are:

P55M-UD2

i5-750

8gb Gskill F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

Zotac 9500GT 1GB 128BIT DDR2

Intel Core i5 750

Gigabyte GA-P55-UD2 -

Sparkle Nvidia Geforce 9400GT

4GB Ripjaws DDR3 (2 x 2gb)

tonymacx86

Please are you are to confirm that the motherboard you are describing is

GA-P55M-UD2 ???

I can not find GA-P55-UD2 anywhere, only the "M" version GA-P55M-UD2

It appears to be a M-ATX board. Is this correct?

Thank you for all your help and information.

Kind regards

I just got my GA-P55M-UD2 with i7 860 up and running thanks to the posts in this forum. I ran a geekbench on it, and was a little disappointed to see it was only scoring around 6000. I saw there were a number of new posts of iMac 11,1 up on geekbench site with the same specs scoring much higher:

http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/sear...p;commit=Search

Is anyone getting these kind of numbers out of their p55 hackintosh? Maybe I'm missing something in the bios (I'm running the latest F4n).

dorkiaa:

yes, i can confirm both are working for me (currently copying 200 GB from my old macbook pro via firewire target-disk mode to my P55M-UD2 (FW800-to-FW400 on the P55).

I Also conected a esata-disk to it and formatted it successfully under Disk Utility

very useful to have both! ;)

haven't tested if the Gigabyte-onboard-sata ports are working, the p55-based sataports are working for me.

Success!

I've at long last managed to install Snow Leo on my P55 system.

MSI P55 GD65

4GB Gskill ripjaw 1600mhz

Core I5 750 (Overclocked to 3.83Ghz)

Nvidia 8800 GT 512

I used a combination of the following guides.

http://www.mbel.tk/

http://prasys.co.cc/2009/08/installing-sno...pard-for-osx86/

Firewire works out of box

Used I5boot to stop overspeed issues

Used the following to enable bot ethernet cards http://######.com/weaksauce12/2009/...-snow-released/

Upgraded to vanilla Kernel using 10.62 Combo update

Sleep doesn't work but I'm going to try the new Netkas sleep enabler next
