yes, i can confirm both are working for me (currently copying 200 GB from my old macbook pro via firewire target-disk mode to my P55M-UD2 (FW800-to-FW400 on the P55).

I Also conected a esata-disk to it and formatted it successfully under Disk Utility

Very reassuring... The P55M-UD2 seems like the near-perfect hackintosh build! ;)

I'm looking to buy a 5.1 receiver, so it would be helpful if someone could test the optical port ;)

I would agree! :hysterical:

I know it's a bit limited as of yet, but I'm going to keep my tonymacx86-snowleopard.zip filepack updated with all of the kexts, boot file, DSDT edits. I've posted everything I'm currently using there, and will try to post daily any related information or updates as they happen.

Also I'm planning on doing some video screencasts, bios settings pictures, and a full detailed guide in the next few days. Please let me know how I can improve the blog! Thanks to everyone who's been contributing on this thread!

Tasc has a worrisome post about his geekbench score of 6000, when a similar iMac gets 11,100.

Anyone else geekbench their newly functioning hacks yet?

I got a score of 6114 on a i5 750 running at stock clock with RAM also at 1333 underclock. I wonder if it may be related to the throttling feature where if the system is idle, it downclocks to save energy. I'll try to disable it, and then rerun and report back.

Cool goldenaustin.

I misread tasc's post. He said the iMacs were scoring much higher... I saw the model 11,1 and assumed he said they were scoring 11,100. In fact they are scoring in the high 8000s to low mid 9000s. So we're slower, but not by the 5000 that I misstated.

My bad. Sorry to confuse things.

Yeah, his scores were in the high 8000s to 9000s for his i7 860. I'm also running slower at stock speeds than what's reported, 6500 and 7131. However, when I just tried an overclock to 3.2 on my i5, and bumped up my score to 7446. I can easily go to 3.6 and probably hit the 8000s, so I guess that's yet another reminder of the advantage we have over iMacs, is the ability to overclock.

BTW, I'm trying to figure out a boot issue after updated to 10.6.2. I followed these steps in this thread:http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=197319&pid=1330479&st=0entry1330479

which uses radekge's boot CD. So, I can boot into my 10.6.2 hard drive just fine with his CD, but without it, I can get passed the Chameleon boot selection page, which brings me to the silver load up screen with the wheel at the bottom. After this screen it gets stuck on a blank/black screen and just hangs there, until I have to reboot.

Anyone deal with this?

I'm getting a score of 9132 on my i5 overclocked to 3.6GHz.

I think a lot of those scores from my previous post were possibly from overclockers (at least I'm hoping). It looks like even if you are running higher clock/memory speeds, your defaults stock speeds are still reported to geekbench (or whatever is in smbios). I will be interested to see what a real stock i7 iMac scores.

My initial score was ~6000 on an i7 860 at stock speeds with 1066 memory. I just put in my Intel SSD (and did some other minor changes incorporating the i5 boot file, tony's DSDT, etc) and reran and came up with ~7800.

My initial install was using the standard PCI 10.5 booter and I thought everything was running fine. However, I came back to my computer to see my clock was about an hour ahead. So I am now using the i5boot that tonymac has included in his files. So regardless of if you are running an i5 or an i7, I think we all need to use this modified boot file for now with P55. I'm wondering that since my clock was running fast if it skewed the benchmark results for that low score I got.

Either way, it looks like this P55M-UD2 is a good choice and quite inexpensive. I was worried about getting a microATX board, but it fits the standard ATX mounts just fine and I have no need for the extra PCI slots anyway. The only MINOR issue I have is the sound solution we are using for the ALC888b is not that great, but it does work! I get some random popping noises every once in awhile and the sound is laggy when changing volume levels. There are also several failed assertions during bootup related to the sound.

Now I just need to find a cooler for socket 1156 that is not as whiny as the intel stock cooler. Wow, this thing sounds like an old CDROM drive spinning up. I'm almost thinking I got a bad fan.

I'm getting a score of 9132 on my i5 overclocked to 3.6GHz.

Interesting, I only got 8361 on my i5 @ 3.6GHz. G.Skill RAM is at 1800. Have any ideas on the discrepancy? Just reread Tasc's post, and his SSD made a huge difference. I'm running a somewhat slow WD Green drive for testing purposes.

I have a similar setup with an i7 860. Geekbench64 in 10.5.8 at stock speeds is 9300. OC to 3.8GHZ my score is 13000. In 10.6.2 (Vanilla and Qoopz)I get poo! Geekbench64 rate my OC system at 6000. WTF?! Maybe it because of the 1.5X speed that SL is running at; the newly discovered time and a/v running too fast that others have reported. DOES ANYONE HAVE A CURE FOR THIS?! Sorry for caps, but it is frustrating me to no end.

As for your ACL888b sound, I uploaded my modified kext @ www.kexts.com for 100% working sound in SL; Digital S/PDIF, line in/out and mic. Hope that helps.

Quick followup on the audio issues I mentioned above. I just switched to 64 bit kernel and there is no longer any lag when changing volume levels, and it seems much more solid now. So if you are seeing audio flakiness with 32 bit, try running 64 bit kernel.

Just ran another geekbench on 64bit kernel with memory clocked up to 1333. Result: 8032.

Bansaku, try the i5boot file that TonyMac posted previously in this thread. Supposively, it clears up the clock issues. I was getting a 6000 on my geekbench as well and after using that booter (amid other changes) my score jumped to 7800.

I got over 9000 once and posted a score of 8974. I tried with the 32 bit one first and was in the 7000 range. I then got a key for the 64 bit and my score went up.

I am running an MSI P55-GD65 motherboard i7 860, 8 gigs of 1333 and a GTX 9800+ totally stock speeds, no over clocking.

I put the Freezer 7 Pro cooler on my system and it made a huge difference, significantly dropped the core temps and it's nearly silent. They recommend using it to where the airflow pushes out the back but it does not really fit well on the P55M-UD2 board that way so I have it pointing downward in the case and it's working well for me.

Were you running the 32bit or the 64bit version of Geekbench? On my system using the 64bit version boosts the score by 1000 so you may want to try that and see what you come up with. Also Geekbench only tests processor and memory speeds so the hard drive should have little to no bearing on the score.

The Prolimatech Megahalems with a Scythe S-Flex 1600 RPM fan seems to get top ratings

On my i7 860/ASUS P7P55D Deluxe in SL 10.6 with Qoopz Voodoo kernel clock run too fast (kernel option fsb=133333333 in com.apple.boot.plist partialy corrected this problem), with modbin.432 kernel all ok.

I tried to install on ASUS P7P55D but during the install, the computer keep restarting. How did you manage to get this installed? Did you have the same experience?

Thx.

I've just tried GeekBench 64 bit on my I5 750 overclocked to 3.84 and got a score of 10041.

Is that regarded as a decent score ?

MSI-p55-GD65

Core I5 750

The only thng I cannot fix is my atheros based wireless card, I get KP as soon as it connects to any networks.

I would agree! :D

That's a good score. OC'ing does wonders with GeekBench, but keep in mind that GB primarily gauges speed, so it would make sense for a score to bump up a few thousand if you raise the clock over 1Ghz.

I am assuming you are using a HDD and not a SSD? In which case it should be higher!

and... tonight i try install snow leopard my first time ;-)

Hi all. I've been ready thread after thread and I'm learning a lot but finding more I need to learn. I have recently built my PC. Here are specs:

Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4P

Core i7 860 2.8 gHz

8 GB 1333 RAM

Gigabyte GV-N95TD3 video card (N-vidia 9500 GT)

LG BD-Combo Drive

1.5 TB Seagate

I am anxious to start the OSX install but haven't decided if I'm going to wait for a vanilla install that will work on this setup or use a method that is already available. I currently own an iMac 20" late 06, a Mac Mini, and a Macbook Air. As well as a MSI wind dual booting Windows 7 and Snow Leopard 10.6.1. The Wind was a piece of cake but this looks to be a bit more involved. Anyone got this MB with the i7 going? And if so how. I tried one time using MyHack installer on a 8 GB USB drive that I restored my OSX 10.6.0 install disc onto. It wouldn't load the installer. Just rebooted.

Thanks!

Try Alex's method back on page 20. Just installed on mine with the same video card and motherboard as yours.
