PC EFI Enables Vanilla OS X Kernel Boot on White Box PCs

REVENGE

After almost 2 years of waiting, the dream is finally becoming a reality! Last week, Netkas released his modified Apple Darwin bootloader to successfully boot an UNMODIFIED EFI kernel with NO hacked patches/workarounds on Intel Core/Core 2 architecture PCs.

EFI booting has been one of the ultimate goals of the OSx86 scene since the beginning with the hacking of Marklar. Mark this day in OSx86 history, it has been a long time coming!

PC EFI is currently at V4, and includes FSB autodetect, as well as multiboot support.

You can find more info here at Netkas' site, including guides and more.

Thanks to Joe Cargo for breaking the news in our very own Reader News forum! [i don't know why this wasn't posted, but it definitely belongs on the Front Page.]

i was just wondering if i should use the digitmemo guide from earlier in this post or if there was a new one.

thanks=)

Yes agree, especially after 7.1 release we need more than a simple short readme.txt file included

Does anyone know what the story with Natit is here?

Does the use of the EFI boot loader make Natit unnecessary?

As I understand, I think it depends which card you have. Eg, there are certain bootloaders for certain cards - however, those cards which don't have a bootloader will need Natit/Titan.

Thanks... I guess as long as I can fall back on Natit things are good.

Don't know if anyone noticed, but since Netkas is releasing updates so regularly, I thought I'd just say that v8 is already out :P

Yes it is. i wrote a guide on how to install it and how to dual boot with it! :)

Its in the OSX86 Install thread.

I tried what you posted in the 10.4 Installation thread

"cd /iamefi

./startupfiletool /dev/rdiskxsx ./boot_v5

mount -uw /

mv /System/Library/Extensions/AppleSMBIOS.kext /var/root

cp -R AppleSMBIOS.kext /System/Library/Extensions"

I booted up and only got to a blue screen. I have a ToH kernel and running Tubgirl 10.4.10

I can move the mouse but nothing else

Has anyone gotten PC EFI to work on a pentium D?

I read on Netkas's site that it should work, but I've tried various versions of the patch and still no success booting with a vanilla kernel
