OS X on the MSI Wind, Before it's Released

Numberzz

A hacker, and a member of our forums, has managed to get Mac OS X Leopard running on the MSI Wind. This is what jav had to say about getting it on his MSI Wind. It's translated from spanish.

Well, here it is. The new MSI Wind running Kalyway 10.5.2. I still have to make some adjustments, such as the resolution and the wireless card, but I couldn't stop myself from posting these images that I'm sure will get the interest from more than one person. Ethernet and Bluetooth work right out of the box, so I'm really expecting a lot from this small notebook.

All that and the MSI Wind isn't even going to be released until July 7th.

EDIT: It appears that the sound also works OTB. The resolution and wireless are the only things that we know of that don't work.

For me kalyway 10.5.2 worked as well as the retail dvd install method (on a medion akoya). Only problem with the retail method was that it refused to install to an MBR formatted hd, so I had to install to a USB GUID drive and then clone the system to the built in hd.

Kalyway 10.5.2 : all works :

Wifi : I replace the origin card by an Apple Wifi CARD Macbook pro, It's works and I have the led in the task bar.

Hi!!

I've an answer for you... I have Leopard 10.5.4 installed on my msi wind, and all works fine enough but.................

all the games I tried worked at a lower resolution taking only 2/3 of the screen, and lefting the right 1/3 blank..

Can you help me to configure another graphic resolution, in order to have the game taking all the screen?

Many thanks to all!!!

Daniela

Ok, thanks for your reply.. But then, why the 1024x600 doesn't work on Windows XP too, and works perfectly on Windows Vista??

It's a strange thing... Do you think it's the driver?

Do you guys think it would be possible to get an OS X compatible USB sound card and then to solder the connections to allow the integrated mic and headphone ports to work? I may have to give this a shot.

Would you guys suggest purchasing the Dell Wireless 1490 card from Dell.com or is a used card from eBay going to be just fine? Also, is there any reason that a wireless card from a MacBook like this one Atheros AR5BXB72 or this one Broadcom BCM94321MC wouldn't work in the Wind?

Thanks

Edit: Added link to Broadcom card

Update: Well I did a bit of research and didn't see any reason why the Broadcom wouldn't work, since it's the same as the Dell 1500 which does work in the Wind and it was $5 less than the Dell. I want everything to have arrived when I get back so I can install the RAM and WiFi card at the same time before installing OS X.

My Wind does some operation on its disk every 30Seconds. I cant understand what causes it. I switched of Spotlight, disabled QuickSilver, made a new user, but I just cant figure it out.

Any suggestions??

its a push, but do you reckon the GMA950 can manage 1920x1200?

Hi,

I'd like to share my first impression after 10 days of use of my Wind under OSX.

Pros:

Slick little toy

OSX reactive and smooth

small form factor lightweight

Every software are working it's just great :D

Cons:

No wifi (waiting for my dell 1490)

No mic

Weird Bluetooth behavior for some reason I can't pair correctly my SE HBH-35 (I was thinking about working my way around for skype with the headset but no...)

Sometimes my USB drives (1TB WD and 500Gb WD) are not mounting. Even if they are plugged before boot.

Can't get the "two finger" trackpad to work...

Last thing, when i'll get my mini pcie Dell, will I have to reinstall special drivers or can I use pacifist to extract the one from MSIWINDOSX86??

I'm running short on time as I'm leaving Europe and I'd like to avoid a complete re-install ;)

Overall I'm quite satisfied with this, but still lack few features (I sold my iMac Alu 2,4 so it's quite a shock for me)

Cheers

Regarding the GMA950 and 1920x1200 I doubt it, might be too much for the few megs available to handle...
