New Build of OS X Leopard

Numberzz

It seems that as the days move forward, so do the builds of the next update to Mac OS X Leopard. 10.5.2 is a very anticipated release and it brings many features and bug fixes that were thought to be not included in the original shipping version. The install size of the latest build is said to be a bit lower than it was before, down to 1.0GB from 1.2GB. The new update also is said to fix 134 bugs from the latest version of Leopard, 10.5.1. Also included outside the installer is a package that includes a lot of graphics drivers.

What the difference in Graphics Performance ? Do all models receive a speed boost from this release ?

It is quite possible. Since my upgrade to Leopard on my MBP I have found it to lag at times. Especially the dock. Running Vista with bootcamp, when I upgraded the drivers with the Leopard disk i did get an increase in available RAM. As for the release. Apple will release it to the public when it is ready.

For the love of god, could someone just upload this build (9C30) to rapidshare or something? That way, we would all be able to stop waiting for Apple to actually release it (I mean, when it is formally released, one can just install the formal release over 9C30). This is just a point update, I don't see why it has to be so shrouded in secrecy and stuck in an endless build cycle (considering that there have been "no issues" with these builds since 9C23 or whatever).

What's the great rush to have this released? At the end of the day 10.5.1 is *functional* sure there are problems, but Apple would rather sort them in this one nice rather large update than rush out "patches" every 5 minutes like done for Vista.

The reason it is "shrouded in secrecy" is so that things like the MacBook Air etc. aren't confirmed before release. If you looked hard enough you could have found the MacBook Air being mentioned in previous 10.5.2 Builds before it was released. Also, people aren't supposed to share it, as they'll have signed a legal agreement not to disclose it/the details about it with Apple. And you can also find confirmation of a new MacBook Pro in the current developer release. :)

Known Issues

- None

Does not actually mean there are "no issues" it means if there are issues, which there undoubtably will be, they don't know what they are, which is why they ask a specific technical audience to test the areas mentioned, that have been updated and/or recently fixed.

The fact is, it'll be released when Apple thinks it is ready to be, not because a few people are bitching about it not being released. Apple never set any release date for this, it's not like it's late. So why complain? At the end of the day, either...

1) Wait patiently like (almost) everyone else...

2) Pay for a Apple Developer Connection account with access to the developer seeds.

Or...

3) Find the update yourself. Ask a friend, know someone with an ADC account? Why not see if they can get hold of it for you. Or learn to search the internet effectively. Things like this aren't hard to find if you know where to look.

Although, I have to give props to MS--while the constant installing/uninstalling/reinstalling is a pain in the ass, at least it finally works as advertised. Vista is not hosed (it is, in fact, unharmed) after uninstalling a service pack and that is a first for a MS operating system.

You can easily update previous builds of OS X Leopard. Simply install the reversioner, then the new update... it's really not hard. And it doesn't hose your system. You don't need to "uninstall" the previous version first. And it's a hell of a lot quicker than a Windows service pack install/uninstall. Props to Apple for that one.

I was checking your screenshots for the new the new Leo builds. Now what caught my attention was that you have 4 Partitions on your drive. AFAIK that you can only have max 3 Parts as the rest aren't seen by XP and arenot MBR Compatible.

Could you please help me out as to how you got more than 3 Part??

I want more partitions.

If you really want to know how I personally did it, I simply used Paragon Partition Manager under windows to create the partitions, I formatted the Mac ones as FAT32 first, then during setup used disk utility (under the Utilities Menu) to re-format the FAT32 partitions as HFS+ Jornaled. My Windows partitions are NTFS formatted.

Hope this helps.

@mac.nub Thanks, this was on a Real Mac right. I dont wanna kill my iMac/Leopard

No, not on a real Mac, this is on my Laptop Hackintosh. You'll need to use iPartition (or an equivalent program) if you want to do that on a Real Mac, personally i'd use iPartition rather than anything else.

Haven't got my MacBook Pro yet, i'm waiting for the updated version to be released ;)

But still, there is a problem ! - Nvidia cards are build with a purevideo core inside for video movies acceleration .. so far, as I know, apple drivers ignore this powerfull feature ... or I am wrong ?!

Wont make a diff with modern CPU's.

Actually, these graphics driver updates will probably screw some of us up, wont they??

U use titan on a Nvidia7600GS and get a garbled display after res change or wake from sleep, these updates may fix that...

Oh {censored}!!!!! Real Macs have this thing that coz EFI has only primary parts (unlimited that too), but as MBR only supports 4 Primary Parts, you can only have 3 usable Partitions (One is EFI).

I was so hoping you found a fix.

will it be possible to install it on hackintosh straight from the box or should we wait for the hacked release?

With my EFI install all that was required was replacing/deleting about 4 files again after install.
