JaS OSx86 10.5.4 Client Server Intel SSE2 SSE3 released

apowerr

JaS's latest DVD comes with the following release notes:

Finally after much hard work and effort, repackaging / cutting driver to have the most stable release I could, along with months of hard work my version of OS X for Intel based systems is ready. This release features upgrading from the customize installation menu along with StageXNU (SSe2 SSe3 kernel thx everyone in xnu-chat for keeping older hardware alive with this great kernel) , NVKush (thx Diabolik) , chameleon (thx zef & Kabyl), SMBIOSResolver (thx Superhai), SMBIOS (thx iGuru) The whole range of Radeon HD Series drivers (thx netkas and lastExile). HDA drivers (thx Taruga) Along with the standard drivers usually found in other leopard install dvds. This release does not include any apps/mods to the UI. Also this is a OS X 10.5.4 Server (thx for the packages f41qu3 and SJobs) / Client installation dvd. Installation of Server will require a valid serial that I have not included. The base for this release was built with slipstream (thx Dense). DVD art by Realityiswhere.

Thanks to everyone over at irc.osx86.hu , irc.moofspeak.net , hackint0sh.org , insanelymac , and osx86scene.

Remember the point of this is to have some fun and learn a bit if we can. Also to help each other out, remember " no one left behind that can be supported" this is our motto and our creed.

JaS's releases are renowned for their high quality, and no doubt this one will continue the trend. Good luck installing everyone, I know I can't wait ;)

EDIT: Got a screenshot of the Installer options, looks very complete with a plethora of drivers. Nice work! -REVENGE

First of all, thank you guys for the huge effort: it's a GREAT release.

My setup:

CPU

Intel Pentium 4, 3 Ghz (LGA775) Not recognized in System Profiler, "About this Mac" makes Finder crash

(don't know why...maybe it's because the RAM modules are mere DDR 400 instead of DDRII 533) :censored2:

Mobo + PCI

Asrock LGA775-dual915GV Restart Ok; Sleep works but USB ports are not working at wake up

SATA and PATA ports both working otb (2 HD + 1 DVD burner attached)

Audio realtek ALC850 fully working (MIC included)

Ethernet realtek 8100C recognized as realtek 8139 not working

Gigabit realtek 8169S fully recognized as RTL8169S/RTL8110S and working

USB 2.0 fully working

FW 800 PCI card fully working otb

Video

GeForce 7600 GT fully working (QE and CI both ok) otb

This config works with Intel SSE2 SSE3 9.0.2. Sleep Kernel only.

Another (previous) attempt with the StageXNU kernel failed.

jas, you are creating the oldest trick in the book to generate income from this.

i don't think i respect you any more.

i'm in sales... and i am not easily bull {censored}'d...

well i tried it... and as long as you are not a stupid ass like most of the people posting... it works 100% the way it should... the install was smooth and worked exactly the way it should.

Wow, nasty. :thumbsup_anim:

Hey Jas, I really appreciate all the work you have done for this community. I do have one question, can I use the server files that you include in your release to install the server version on my MacBook?

Hi,

this release seems to be quite awesome. I have a few questions concerning the kernels. Is the 9.2.0 Kernel in the install list the netkas kernel or the vanilla kernel? If it's the netkas kernel, do I get the vanilla kernel by selecting no kernel at all? What's the advantage of the StageXNU kernel? And what exactly does chameleon do? I thought it was only good with a bootloader install. Please forgive my asking so much. I've read quite a few topics and these are my left-over questions.

Thanks a lot!

I finally have everything installed and working properly.

Hardware: Thinkpad X41 tablet

I followed the instructions here to modify the JaS 10.5.4 ISO so it could boot properly with the X41's GMA900 graphics. The resulting DVD booted into the installer without requiring an external monitor or the paperclip trick.

I booted with the -v -cpus=1 flags and installed onto a secondary partition. I chose the StageXNU 9.4.0 kernel.

After install, the system would not boot. Starting in -v mode produced the infamous "waiting for root device" message and stalled indefinitely.

I have a working Kalyway 10.5.1 (plus 10.5.2 update and ToH 9.2.0 kernel) install on the primary partition of this same machine. The OSX bootloader automatically detects both installations so I booted the Kalyway partition and manually copied the contents of /System/Library/Extensions to the JaS 10.5.4 partition. Upon reboot everything started up as normal, including full Quartz graphics support without the paperclip trick. There were no problems with the PS2 keyboard/mouse at any time, either pre- or post- installation.

Once booted up I chose to migrate my settings from the 10.5.2 partition to the new install. It took a long time but the system found everything and copied it perfectly. Including my third party Intel wifi drivers and all my applications.

The only thing that didn't work flawlessly on the new system is Firefox 3.0.1. For some reason, sites like Gmail and Netvibes wouldn't load as normal. I had to delete my Firefox settings from the 10.5.2 migration and re-install all my plugins. After that, everything worked as expected.

Azure, Nice, job

you have a very similar rig. I allways followed link to the x41 osx86 setup and i5 also worked for me. I have FS Stylistic ST5020D tablet pc, 1,1 ulv (sse2) cpu, 855GME chipset, intel2200bg wifi...

I managed to run Jas 10.4.8 (very fast boot) with working tablet funcionality (tabletmagic) as well as wifi with iwi drivers. What did not work though was the gma 855 as there is no driver (1024x764 basic only), brightness settings (very anoying to have it allways on full brightness, especially in the evening, plus battery drains...), but the biggest problem that would not allow me to use it on a daily bases would be no standby mode. Tablet restared and went off fine, but when I selected sleep/standby, only mouse dessapeared, but everything else remained on. I had dual boot osx/xp or osx/vista, but sleep mode is very important for me so I ended up using win.

Recently I tried a few Leos like Kalyway 10.5.1 - worked, but very long boot time 100 spins) and again no standby mode, than I tried Leo4all v3 as well as Leo4all v 4, trued different setups, sleep kernel..., installes fine, but would not boot afterwards (freezes at boot). The same with Jas 10.5.2 or 10.5.4 server. Perhaps I do not know what kernel or other options to use at setup prefferences. Would anyone assist me to have well working leo running on my lovely tablet pc? On Kalyway 10.5.1, tablet funcionality as well as wifi works after installing third party soft/drivers, but non of others have I managed to run, not even Kallyway 10.5.2, also freezes at boot after sucessfull install. I need faster boot and standby/sleep moe working Leo. Any advice?

Sorry for being too detailed

Great {censored} work JaS. Ignore all the jackasses talking {censored} about you taking donations. It took an ASSLOAD of work to get OS X running on the pc platform, osx86 may encourage Apple to release on the x86 platform someday.

I'm PM'ing you to donate.

Thanks!

I should have mentioned, everything works as well under JaS 10.5.4 as it did under Kalyway 10.5.2. But some things never did (and still don't) work.

- When I close the lid and open it again, the screen goes crazy. The image distorts weirdly. After I experienced this the first time under 10.5.2, I added the Display icon to the taskbar. If I carefully change resolution to 800x600 and then back to 1024x768 after opening the lid the screen fixes itself.

- Sleep does not work, at all, as others have described above.

- I cannot adjust the brightness of the screen.

- The buttons on the tablet have never worked.

- Today I discovered the USB ports are not functioning under 10.5.4. They did work under 10.5.2.

Hello JaS,

another great release that need some fine tuning (for me).

my issues compared to the 10.5.2 Kalyway i am running on another HDD

- my iPhone is not found in iTunes

- not able to pair my Apple Wireless Keyboard with MSI BT Dongle (USB)

=maybe an USB Problem

might be a general problem of the 10.5.4 as there are some real mac users complaining about the Bluetooth issues.

i will try to fix this my selfusing the Kalyway 10.5.2 files. when its done i can give you more input.

Cheerz

Wow, nasty. :)

yea quite amazing what people dare to post nowadays. This pcharles25 is a real "nice" one. Him being in sales just tells me the only talent he possesses is selling a product to someone by manipulating someones opinion into a shape he can work with. If there are people in this world i do not respect it would be sales representatives. His reply being an acknowledgment of this.

Also feels quite superior if you read the rest of his post. Best to ignore these kind of people and go on with day to day life. Since nothing you say will ever change them anyways.

"Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience."

Keep doing what you do and ignore the ignorant negativity JaS. Your release has been running 100% working for a solid week now and has been 100% stable (which is a first timer since previous releases did have the occasional crash).

hi everyone,

id like to add myself to the list of people with the "still waiting for root device problem", i get a no smoking sign on the grey apple screen if i boot without -v, dont know if it's the same thing. i have a dell inspiron 8500 (sse2) and have never had the root device problem with any other release.

one question, which kernel should i select, the 9.2.0 one says sse2 sse3, is that correct? i thought only the xnu kernel was sse2?

jas,

thanks so much for your incredible work, although i can't yet get my computer to boot, i was able to complete the install for the first time ever! all other leopard releases just restarted my computer instantly when i booted off the dvd (i did have everything working under tiger, though).

Hi, I am with you on this one, the current distribution boots - but fails with a blue screen.

bluescreen means that the other Display is the primary.

Plug in an external monitor or change the display settings in BIOS to be internal only.

Don't know about you guys, but the ALC 888 driver is not working on my MSI P45 Platinum.. Everything else works just perfect OOTB, just the sound not working. Have other people also had this problem or it is just me who have had this issue?

I have seen this problem on my Gigabyte EP43-DS3 too..

Tried the usual way to get onboard audio work by Taruga's ALC888 patch with other images, didn't get luck. Also switched between ToH 9.2.0 and vanilla 9.4.0 kernel, neither works. I might missed smth, any thoughts on this is appreciated.

btw, I think it's hardware identification patch in Jas image that shows my volumes as 'metal' drives, instead of orange ones in other image, isn't it? Really enjoyed that 'metal' icon, thanks ;)

Sad to me, I can't even start the installation from DVD-R's and RW's burned with this iso. Fresh DVD-R almost got stucked in early stage(when -/-\- is rotating). From DVD-RW installation is starting in 50% of cases. But when selecting features to install it fades to grey screen("busy" cursor) and then halts my PC. Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD worked fine. I hope JaS is going to release ppf's soon or I'll have to try fresh iDeneb..

Sorry, but i edit joeventura and i have intel 855.

What's difference between 855gm (mine) and 855gma (joeventura, kkm,...)

Mine on FS Stylistic ST5020D is Intel 855GME chipset. As long as I know 855 should be the same chipset. GMA means Graphic Media Accellerator or something similar meaning the integrated Intel graphic chip is included. So long it looks I will stick to 10.4.8 and will try to solve the sleep or brightness issue. Leo for my rig seems too complicated so far, unless I find the right setup from all the options before installation. I will keep on trying, I have macbook too and would love my tablet to be fully usable with Leo, but until fast start, sleep and brightness issues are solved, I'll have to stick with Vista, will inform of any progress.
