Boot Camp 1.2 released, includes Vista support

Apple's Boot Camp beta software has just been updated to version 1.2, bringing with it support for the 32-bit version of Windows Vista. Many users have already successfully installed Windows Vista on their Macs, however this package brings official support and drivers for the new OS.

 

Apple's official list of improvements includes:

  • Support for Windows Vista (32-bit)
  • Updated drivers, including but not limited to trackpad, AppleTime (synch), audio, graphics, modem, iSight camera
  • Support the Apple Remote (works with iTunes and Windows Media Player)
  • A Windows system tray icon for easy access to Boot Camp information and actions
  • Improved keyboard support for Korean, Chinese, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Russian, and French Canadian
  • Improved Windows driver installation experience
  • Updated documentation and Boot Camp on-line help in Windows
  • Apple Software Update (for Windows XP and Vista)
The new software can be downloaded directly from Apple's Boot Camp site (no pun intended).

woot :P downloading now, i'll probably just secure erase the harddrive and start over from scratch, nothing fun like destroying windows :(. Im glad more hardware is supported, I hated not having my Apple Remote not work.

I'll go ahead and point out the obvious... No 64-bit support for my awesome Mac Pro! <frowny-face>

 

Oh well, the other stuff is nice though. Apple Software Update, remote support. Now we just need a Lite ARD client for Windows so I can see they are in Windows from my ARD admin app and tell the bastards to reboot in Mac OS X when I need them all to.

Not even Vista really makes full use of 64-bit support. It's really no loss.

 

So much for the weak theory that Apple was delaying Leopard until Fall '07 for a Boot Camp that was Vista-compatible. :thumbsup_anim:

Brilliant! Does this mean that the rumors that Leopard would be posponed to support the Vista OS , is False?

I don't think it means anything either way.

 

The point of the boot camp beta is to unleash it on us and watch what happens.

 

Apple will most likely wait a little while for the results of this beta before thinking about the final release.

I think Apple loves the games. Their market-share is rising... Their stock keeps rising... So someone blows cr@p out their arse and claims Vista drivers are still many months off and Apple pulls it out of their hat just like that. Just like they did when they first released Boot Camp amongst all the doubt that they would EVER support Windows on a Mac.

 

It's almost comical. I'd go so far as to joke about them NEVER selling Generic OS X... but then I'd have to go freeze hell over tomorrow.

download it.

 

install it on the Mac

 

Run the app in your Utilities folder

 

Burn a new Mac drivers CD.

 

Quit the app and don't modify your partitions.

 

Reboot into Windows and update your drivers with the new CD.

 

Done.

Hi t3mur. Does your numpad work? How did you do it? Mine doesn't work. I also have an iMac 24" using an ordinary Apple keyboard. Would appreciate any kind of help. Thanks!

NumLock is the Clear key over above the numeric pad 7 key. There's no alt label for it because appearantly Mac OS X doesn't need it so it takes a bit of hunting to turn it on in Windows. Afterwards it stays on through reboots if I remember correctly.

This release seems kinda buggy to me. I installed Vista Ultimate on my MBP, and I installed the drivers successfully. However, the graphics driver didn't work[said the Control Panel has 'issues'], and the trackpad doesn't allow for two finger clicking or scrolling. =x

I always use the ATi Drivers from The AMD ATi site. But we def need some Proper Trackpad Drivers with Tap and Scrolling.. Does this release mean we could soon be able to use BootCamp Vista Partition with Paralells.?

The volume and brightness keys on my MBP still don't correspond to those controls. Is this still an issue for anyone else?

who here says i should partition my disk that has 67gb on it to run vista ultimate? i honestly cant decide if i have nothing better to do with the space....

Unless you have a Windows program you desperately need to use, it's really not worth it.
