Where are the better graphic card options?

Man this machine is just AWSOME!!!!

I am extremely disappointed. I expected they would release it as something completely new, not as an (expensive) extra option for the old Mac Pro.

Someting completely new? But the only difference is the processor? I know lots of people who've bought mac pros, ebayed the cpus and put in quad core chips to get 8 cores. It's nice that Apple is now offering that solution directly so those who want warranty can still have it.

If they release a black 24" quad core iMac, i will be annoyed, because it won't be mine.

But yeah, more video card options would be nice i suppose. Is there much of an aftermarket industry for MacPro 3rd party video cards yet? I haven't looked.

Don't get sucked into the hype. How clever of Apple to release the Clovertown based Xeon's at Intel's current pricing scheme...that will change in a few weeks...April 22nd. Then these clovertowns will cost Apple hundreds less per chip and they will keep the price the same, and pocket the rest. Good strategy by marketing, but a big rip off for consumers.

Besty buy the cheapest 2.0 GHz config and upgrade yourself to the clovertowns for much less in a month or two.

Those prices are in 1,000 unit quantities, certainly NOT retail

Given the price of clovertowns, whether from Apple or a self-install approach, I can't say I'm bothered that my Mac Pro has "only" four cores....

Yes, its cool to have 8 cores.. but its totally not nessary. Its like having a 600 horsepower car. Yes its cool.. but you don't need all that power.

I have a Mac Pro Now, and I was hoping they wouldn't have some huge upgrade that cost the same as mine and then kick myself later. That didn't happen that's for sure! Two grand more.... not worth it really. Only for render farms might that actually matter. Either way I think it's pretty cool

How you can tell the need of that power, I like those mass powered cars, but I prefer well balanced ones with other gadgets and gimmicks than just Muscle only.

As for the Mac Pro If I could re-encode videos/DVDs faster than my actual machine I really NEED it because time is GOLD and with less time spended on encoding/decoding/editing etc is more time for other tasks.

i guess it is pretty future proof.....

Well, I guess I will be waiting till some better graphics card is supported. They name the 7300GT as some of great card for the mac, but it sucks pretty much. The ATI 1900XT lacks behind of a "Pro" card and so is the quadro. Nvidia introduced the new quadro's a time ago.

we once had enough solar panels on our hose that the electric company paid us for our electricity. if we do that again, i could sget one and not effect global warming

It would be news if Apple made a tower that was affordable, not just another high-end machine that no home-user can afford. This is great for professionals, but $4000 is out of the reach of most computer buyers.
