blanktruth
Hi Aquamac, and others that have got their 9800gtx working with full QE/CI I am new to the scene and have had a steep learning curve. Started with Kalyway and am now running Vanilla 10.5.4 Leopard fully working except for hardware accelerated graphics. I like others managed to get QE/CI working on fresh Kalyway install 10.5.2 out of the box. But this suffered from the white menus problem. When I used the aquamac guide installing the nividia kexts QE/CI disappeared. Using Gfx strings QE/CI does not work and neither does the about this mac graphic and display information. It causes a kernel panic. Interestingly on my first install and on subsequent reboots QE/CI would not be supported (10.5.2) unless I booted with -f flag each time. Why is that? So I tried my hand at 10.5.4 Vanilla install as the newest drivers seemed to be working for most. However I have had no luck with either Nvinject or gfx strings. Here are my details Display: Type: Display Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 32 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0612 Revision ID: 0x00a2 Displays: Display: Resolution: 1920 x 1200 Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Software Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported Device path using Gfxutil DevicePath = PciRoot(0x1)/Pci(0x1,0x0)/Pci(0x0,0x0) My hex string d20300000...... Repaired permissions and deleted cache still get KP.. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I have tried several times with 10.5.4 but could not succeed QE/CI. Only Kalyway's 10.5.2 and the files I got from Aquamac from 10.5.4 here worked properly... Have you tried that?
aqua-mac
You could try the files I put up for blanktruth (he has posted a link above) that got his kalyway 10.5.2 going:
KiwiSammy
Hi Blanktruth and Aquamac, I did try the 10.5.4 kexts that were posted however I am not sure if I am using the same Nvinject. Blanktruth could you post the one your using. Did you get QE/CI working with Nvinject or did you have to use the gfx strings to get it to work? Will try Gfx strings now and let you know how I go. Cheers
aqua-mac
blanktruth used GFX strings. You need to delete nvinject. Good lUCK.
KiwiSammy
w00t one step closer to Leopard Nirvana I was trying to paste in a screen cap of my scores How do you do that? Now if only I can get this to work in Vanilla 10.5.4!! Thanks guys! Aquamac your guides are invaluable. The Sli stuff your experiemnting with is sooo cool on a mac. Unknown nVidia: Chipset Model: Unknown nVidia Type: Display Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 512 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0612 Revision ID: 0x00a2 ROM Revision: 3172a Displays: HP w2408: Resolution: 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Hardware Accelerated Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Supported Rotation: Supported Television: Yes Display Connector: Status: No display connected EDIT 2 Well I tried 10.5.4 Vanilla with the same kexts and the gfx strings. I now believe the problem may be that the Gfx strings are not being loaded by EFI. Either EFI is not version 8 or somehow not processing the com.apple.Boot.plist file. How can I check this?? thanks guys

Because I tried with iATKOS' 10.5.4 v4i with the GFX Strings I got from Kalyway's 10.5.2, but it did not support QE/CI...
KiwiSammy
Hi Blanktruth, No I have not managed to get QE/CI working in 10.5.4, yet.. What I was thinking was that for whatever reason the com.apple.Boot.plist was not getting processed by PC-EFI or I do not have the correct version installed. I believe I have version 8, but how can you check? Can you list the caches that I should delete? Others have got their 9800gtx working fully in 10.5.4. I thought it was my card. But now that I see it working in 10.5.2, I beleive I should be able to get it going in 10.5.4. Any other suggestions? Cheers
macgirl
How is your card's fan? Mine is very silent on Mac OS, but if I boot on Windows XP (sometimes not ever) the fan start to speed up, temp monitor shows 63~66 º (celcius).
blanktruth
I also find my system a bit more silent compare to Vista... But how could you check the temps? I could not find a sotfware to check CPU and GPU temp...
glitchbit
I cannot get QE CI for the 9800 GTX to work under 10.5.4 (I used the iATKOS 4i w/ chameleon patch for jmicron). I thought after 10.5.3 it was just suppose to work?? ... I have tried everything suggested other than 10.5.2.. I'd much rather find out why it is not working with iATKOS 4i than to start over... but oh well

KiwiSammy
Hi Macgirl, My card is pretty quiet under both OS. I have not noticed a difference. I noted with interest that you are running 10.5.4 and have the 9800gtx working fully with QE/CI. Did you install NVinject first and try to get it working, or did you go directly for the gfx strings and get it working? I have managed to get mine working in 10.5.2 (kalway) with gfx strings but no luck in 10.5.4. similar to blanktruth and others. In fact I used the same Boot.plist that worked in 10.5.2 (kalway) file and could not get it to work. Will keep trying and let you know if I succeed. alexlyc
maybe it's your P45 board, my 9800GTX QE/CE runs perfectly fine in 10.5.4 on a X48 board (using 9.2 kernel) I am sure this isn't stress enough in the first page, in order for gfx strings to work, you don't ever install or need NVInject prior editing com.apple.boot.plist. Hmm, do you think that the problem with 10.5.4 with X48 is 9.4 kernel? Because I also have X48 (Asus Rampage Formula with DDR2) board and I could not manage to run 9800 GTX with QE/CE in 10.5.4... aqua-mac
I have X48 with 2 x 9800 GTX, so I don't think it is the chip that is the problem. It is always possible that there is an old kext in Kalyway that has been put there for overall compatibility that is causing a problem - perhaps not being updated with 10.5.4 but was acceptable with 10.5.2. There is a history of graphics problems in upgrading 10.5.2 with nvinject too. It might be worth re-installing the large 10.5.4 update (in excess of 500 megs) again. I din't install NVinject, NVKush or Natit since the whole RIG is new I installed 10.5.0 updated to 10.5.4 and intalled some patched kexts and patcher kexts and using GFX string. The thing about fan noise is when I boot XP after I was using Mac OS, the Fan increases speed not on boot but just after I logged in on XP, but after 2 or 3 minutes the fan back to the decreased speed, this not happen if I boot directly on XP. I will try to measure the temp on both OSes later (with a term probe).
blanktruth
I would like to give it a try with 10.5.4 with kernel 9.2 but I have to backup this working 10.5.2. Is there any way like Acronis True Image for Mac OSX to make an image file of Mac OSX system hard Disk? Also, how can I check if the system is working 100% or not? Like I am not sure about Intel's Speedstep...
glitchbit
blanktruth, thanks for posting that info above and yea the best program to use would be superduper! to backup your working OSX. Personally I create a 15gb partition just for an OSX backup using SuperDuper!. I also outline how you can backup just your Extensions into that backup so you can restore OSX very quickly after messing around with updating extensions in this post ( but you have to buy it to backup only specific areas) http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=97910

zerofil
Hello eveybody, I have an ASUS M51SN and I have very hard time trying to make it graphic card working (GeForce 9500M GS 512int + 512ext). I tryied everything I read in here so I guess I'm unlucky... Using a "Kalyway 10.5.2 sse2/sse3 amd/intel efiv8" distribution installed with Vanilla Kernel and Bios flashed with Kabyl modded bios, I tried the GFX string stuff wich gives me no CI an QE on 10.5.2 with graphic update/without graphic update, i tried aquamac's files on 10.5.2, GFX string on 10.5.3 with 10.5.4 kexts, etc... everytime fresh install everytime running the repairing rights script !! I began to loose hope of getting it to work i had everything from working QE CI with white menus, Full res with no QE CI, and never the whole thing, I also even try to reinstall EFI v8 (from another volume via startupfiletool to my actual 10.5.2 volume that was unmounted) I feel like I tried everything and nothing work. From that point i could say that it's not possible for the moment but I read in other posts that three other people succeed with the very same configuration WTF ! Is it me doing wrong or are they pushing it ? I'm asking help to every people who succeed running full graphics on ASUS M51SN GeForce 9500M Gs to take a look over my case and lend me some help. I'll try to find a way to suceed until then. alexlyc
To glitchbit: If you manage to get full res without QE/CE, you most likely missed some crucial steps like deleting nvinject / natit from your system or repair permission properly. If you are on a intel platform, try install kalway 10.5.2 without selecting any graphic driver during installation and follow the way of how I got mine to work To zerofil: This thread is for 9800 GTX not your 9500M GS... there is a big difference between the two...
