CSOSX
I'm missing somthing and its driving me mad! After my initial 10.5.3 attempts i tried using the .mtexts i was given by AquaMac a while back... forgeting really that they would be 10.5.2 mtext and most likly would not work... so I downloaded the 10.5.3 mtext Aqua-Mac posted up on here... i one bu one removed the 10.5.2 .mtext and then dragged the 10.5.3 ones in... Which included a OpenGL.framework folder which wasnt there before.. so that in my extentions folder too.. (that wrong?) So about ten mins ago i removed my NVinject from the extentions folder, ran a flesh repair permissions script Aqua-Mac had sent me... deleted the extentions.mtext and emtied the trash... waited for it to repopulate.. went to library/prefrences/systemconfiguration moved Apple.boot.plist to the trash... placed GFX string for the GA-G33M-DS2R. repaired permissions from disk Utility and rebooted... Nothing... My XP boot died a nasty BSOD death a week back and this OSX build is solid as a rock! just need my strings working again... gfx are painful running the NVinject... please share a little wisdom.. CGOSX i went with a BFG OC 9800GTX it was less them £200 and rocks! J. Joe. Thanks Joe, after succeeding in obtaining, agian and everybody share. MacBookJoe
Okay, could someone post a numbnut step by step guide from a fresh install to having GFX strings working.. I have the GFX string for my card set for my mobo.. so its just the process I'm somehow messing up on.. E.G 1: Install OSX 10.5 (done) 2: Update to 10.5.3 (done) 3: Obtain com.apple.Boot.plist (done) 4: ?????? 5: ?????? 6: ?????? 7: ?????? 8: Congrats I've solved your issue... now go buy a book and learn this stuff for yourself... :-P The steps taken in my earlier posts are not resolving the issue so somewhere there inlays the problem. Thanks. J. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/98666-9800-gtx-working-in-osx86/page/6/#findComment-780874 Share on other sites
aqua-mac
Joe, Here is a suggestion, it may be worth a try. Install 10.5.2 then install the graphics update for 10.5.2. Then if that is working update to 10.5.3. I know it sounds mad, but I thik that is how you got your card going last time round. Leo 10.5.2 Graphics update Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/98666-9800-gtx-working-in-osx86/page/6/#findComment-781072 Share on other sites
MacBookJoe
I will try that now Aqua-mac... your install disc includes the graphics up as a part of the 10.5.2... cant hurt to do it again... so... Another clean install.... fresh 10.5.2.... run Graphics update..... JaS 10.5.3 updater... then just swap out the Apple.Boot.plist file... repair permissions and thats it? J. TheWiiGuy
I have not yet tried the GFX strings part, but have only used the installer provided by another member. I did it just to test it out, but am kinda worried because I'm getting weird artifacts on the screen that can be seen in the pic on the left side. These have gotten much worse too. Everything in windows is fine, overclocked or not, and atitool reports no errors. I have an evga 9800gtx and an asus 780i p5n-t sli mobo(3-way supported, problem?). I am very new to OS X and am using leo4all 10.5.2 v3 final(clean install of kernal 9.2.0). Do I need EFI to get this working? Both vanilla kernals would not work either. I'm a bit lost as to what to do and any help would be much appreciated. MacBookJoe
I'm still having no joy! I posted my trails but it doesnt appear to be up here..... I pasted in the GFX string... to see if anything comes to mind... I tried a clean 10.5.2 install then installing the GFX update... rebooting then JaS update 10.5.3 then rebooting, backing up the stock com.apple.boot.plist and swapping in the gfx string one... repair from Disk Utility and reboot... still nothing... Could it be the JaS update? I've had no success applying the 10.5.3 update manually. Joe. macbrush
A bit of OT here. Is there any utility that would tell me the temperature of the GPU core? The whole box become an oven with 9800 GTx, and I feel that the OE cooler isn't quite up to the job since OS X uses OpenGL acceleration continuously. aqua-mac
I don't seem to have had any luck with nvidia & temperature monitors in OSX 86. The best one to try is Bresink temp monitor if you want to try. aqua-mac
You will need the 10.5.2 graphics update for things to work, but ideally you need 10.5.3. You should be set then. Follow the tutorial here and it should work. You must also have EFI 8. MBR will not work. aqua-mac
I have not used iatkos 10.5.2, but I assume there is an option when you install to choose MBR or GUID (EFI 8.) To install retrospectively, follow these instructions: 1. Download EFI V8 (Search for it) 2. On your mac, connect your prepared disk, then open terminal : sudo su diskutil list which should show your disk partitions like this : /dev/disk0 #: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER 0: GUID_partition_scheme *465.8 Gi disk0 1: EFI 200.0 Mi disk0s1 2: Apple_HFS Leo 80.0 Gi disk0s2 3: Apple_HFS Tiger 39.9 Gi disk0s3 4: Apple_HFS DATAS 345.3 Gi disk0s4 here it will be disk0. Note that disk0s1 is an EFI specific partition for GUID format, so first HFS+ is disk0s2 with Leo installed here. unmount any mounted volume of your prepared disk then : cd to the folder with boot files (obviously on another drive which has mounted volumes) and type : Usually: cd ~/desktop Then type in the terminal: ./startupfiletool /dev/rdisk0s2 boot (hit return) Then type: dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdisk0s2 bs=512 count=1 (hit return) then unmount the whole disk0 with disc utility and type : dd if=./guid/boot0 of=/dev/disk0 bs=400 count=1 Your disk will reappear on the desktop and will now have a EFI V8 boot sector. papillon68
I have a 9800GTX working fine with GFX string in Leopard 10.5.2. However, even if Quartz is enabled, opengl performances are VERY poor. If you run some games, like GTA San Andreas for example, you see what I mean: 6 fps !!! I suppose we wil have to wait and see if Apple will introduce full support for 98xx card series ... mdg
Aqua-mac...cheers, long time no chat (you mod'd a PNY 7900GS bios to a Quadro for me last year). Is this your 9800 GTX Link to ZOTAC ZT-98XES2P-FCP GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB? And if so, if I buy this card will I be able to get it to work in 10.5.4? I am currently running an 8600GT that is working with NVKush. What would I have to do differently to get the 9800 GTX to work on 10.5.4? Thanks, /mdg. aqua-mac
Hi mdg, Glad to hear your card has been working fine. Yes, that is the card I have alright. To get it working, I would suggest you get my input file for the 9800 GTX (the 512mb one from the link below) and have a go at GFX strings. Link - How To Should work fine with 10.5.4. You do not have to replace any kexts now with 10.5.4 either which is good news too!
