Mobile OS X Tools for Mac OS X

Version 1.0 by alnandr

The Mobile OS X Tools are an unofficial compilation of tools for iPhone and iPod touch. These tools allow you to enable your Mobile OS X device to the liberty and freedom of third-party applications and GSM carriers it deserves.

Currently, Mobile OS X Tools does the following:

* Jailbreak - opens the iPhone and iPod touch for third-party applications; adds Installer 3.0

* Activate - activates iPhone without connecting to iTunes and setting up phone plan.

* Unlock - allows any GSM carrier (including AT&T) to work on the iPhone

We are hoping to integrate the following tools to Mobile OS X Tools:

* iPod touch January Software Upgrade - adds five applications to iPod touch, enables home screen customization. Originally available officially via iTunes for $19.99, Mobile OS X Tools will add them to the iPod touch at no charge.

* Baseband Tools - Different tools to upgrade, downgrade, and modify the baseband on the iPhone. [ADVANCED]

* Bootloader Tools - Tools for the iPhone bootloader (versions 3.9 and 4.6)

Getting Started

Mobile OS X Tools uses many different technologies to enable your iPhone and/or iPod touch to the liberty and freedom of third-party applications and GSM carriers it deserves. Thanks to the recovery mode option in Mobile OS X, we are able to perform many tasks on these devices. To use Mobile OS X in it's full functionality, please review the following Getting Started checklist before beginning to use any operation in Mobile OS X Tools.

For iPhone:

*1.1.3 OTB firmware - The firmware should not be jailbroken, and should be official from Apple. - You may use the Restore option in iTunes to restore iPhone to 1.1.3 OTB.

*3.9 or 4.6 bootloader - Certain features are exclusive for each bootloader. Mobile OS X Tools will automatically disable any features that may corrupt your iPhone depending on the bootloader.

For iPod touch:

*1.1.3 OTB firmware - The firmware should not be jailbroken, and should be official from Apple. You may use the Restore option in iTunes to restore iPod touch to 1.1.3

Jailbreak

Mobile OS X Tools includes the most easiest method to jailbreak Mobile OS X. Jailbreaking will allow you to use third-party applications that Apple has not allowed OS X to run. After months of research from open source communities, we have worked to obtain the easiest jailbreak method available yet. This method works for both iPhone and iPod touch.

To jailbreak, click on "Jailbreak" in the Mobile OS X Tools' Main Menu. A wizard will pop up asking you to select the Mobile OS X device you are using (iPhone or iPod touch). Then, follow the instructions in the wizard to jailbreak your Mobile OS X device.

Activate (for iPhone)

Normally, activation is required with AT&T before your new iPhone can be used. Apple instructs you to connect your iPhone to iTunes, and to select a phone plan for your iPhone. After activation is succeeds, the iPhone enables full functionality.

Mobile OS X Tools contains the best method to do this without selecting a phone plan with AT&T and either getting a 2-year contract from them, or even worse reset a 2-year contract if you already are an AT&T customer. This also allows you to activate the iPhone if you just want to use everything else except Phone and SMS, or if you are also unlocking the iPhone for other carrier use.

To activate, click on "Activation" in the Mobile OS X Tools' Main Menu. A wizard will pop up asking you to connect your iPhone in recovery mode (see Recovery Mode). Then, follow the instructions in the wizard to activate your iPhone. Mobile OS X Tools will activate your iPhone, and if needed, will restart your iPhone.

Your iPhone is activated when the screen shows the current time, and a "Slide to Unlock" slider instead of "Slide for Emergency".

Unlock (for iPhone)

The iPhone is locked to only receive service from it's country of origin's preferred carrier, and therefore can supposedly be used with a SIM card that has gone through the iTunes activation process. Also, Apple has locked the iPhone in order to prevent other carriers other than the one signed for that iPhone's country origin (AT&T is U.S, Orange is U.K, T-Mobile is Germany)

Faithfully, Mobile OS X Tools contains the most easiest way to unlock your iPhone. Depending on your phone's bootloader (either 3.9 or 4.6), there is a method to unlock an iPhone for use with other carriers.

To unlock, click on "Unlock" in the Mobile OS X Tools' Main Menu. A wizard will pop up asking you to select your iPhone's bootloader (Check Settings > General > About on your iPhone if you aren't sure). Then, follow the instructions in the wizard according to the bootloader you selected. Mobile OS X Tools will unlock your iPhone, and if needed, will restart your iPhone.

Unlocking is successful when you see "Searching..." instead of "..." and your carrier's name when you get service.

Future Tools

iPod touch January Software Upgrade

The iPod touch January Software Upgrade is expected to be added in the next release of Mobile OS X Tools, being included with the Jailbreak process for the iPod touch. As Apple states, the January Software Upgrade includes five applications that were originally available with the iPhone, those being Maps, Mail, Weather, Stocks, and Notes. The upgrade also enables the customization of the home screen (the wiggly icons), and Web Clips. Apple sells this Software Upgrade to iPod touch models "A" for $19.99 via iTunes, but thanks to Mobile OS X Tools, we are able to offer the same software upgrade at no charge.

To install the iPod touch January Software Upgrade, click on "Other" tab and select "iPod touch January Software Upgrade". Ensure your iPod touch is connected, and Mobile OS X Tools will install the applications the same way iTunes does. Once Mobile OS X Tools confirms that the upgrade has been successfully installed, you may slide to unlock your iPod touch and begin using the new features.
