Apple has got to love you guys who make putting OSX on any machine possible.

 

Because of this guide, I finally got OSX running on my desktop. Liked it so much , I just went out and purchased a Macbook Pro.

 

Never would have done that had I not played with OSX on my own machine first.

 

MBP is really a good options if you're using nforce chips' PC

yes, i have r3, i checked the md5 and it matched up perfectly.

should I downgrade? i do have the r2, i originally downloaded it from a torrent, and that matched up to the patched r2 md5 from your md5 list.

now explain the problem clearly...

 

tell me what you did, how you did, what did u choose in customize menu of installer, how you partitioned your hdd? step by step everything! and if possible screen caps (with booting -v) would be more helpful to identify your problem(s)...

Now i have only 2 things ... the Sleepmode of my Network PCI Card (8139) i have to reboot always (but i´m using internetsharing via firewire at the moment)

 

and the Sleep-Mode ... ... i´ve installed the Sleep-Kernel from your Update Package ... but the System won´t wake up or when it does ... there is a kernel panic ... what Kernel i have to use? ... I don´t use Speedstep ... netkas Kernel?

sleep doesnt work on my system as well, I guess it may be acpi tables in the bios, which Kabyl was mentioning before, some bioses have different acpi table structure, and doesnt work very well on nforce chipsets...

 

you can make a check in your bios to see your acpi mode... see if you can set it to "s3" or "s1 and s3" if u tried like that and didnt work, it means it will not work...

 

for the network card, no solution yet, check my post #2 about two wireless cards if that helps...

something interesting happens, my sys can't sleep anymore, the HDA not work either.

there're still uncertainties lie between ... and solution yet to be found out ...

well true everything can work once, and next you do something, nothing works... can be due to bios update? can be dvd media is scratched or damaged, or you accidently used different files which worked fine, but forgot which files you used always tricky on nforce chipset... thats why I am tired of nforce, will switch to intel chipset soon in 1-2 months...

Just a note of thanks, I have now after following your excellent guide manged to get everything working on my system. I'm booting off an old IDE drive at the moment and using a Netgear WG111v3 for network but other than that the system is working good enough for myself, I use my SATA for Data just fine.

 

For anybody else setting out on the task to build may I suggest the following essential tools:

- www.google.co.uk use the site specific search site: site: forum.insanelymac.com "Keywords" This will search insanelymac for specific information and I found this invaluable especially while the forum search was out of order

 

- Kalyway DVD I used this to fix my boot partition for some unknown reason I have never got this to work with r3 even when following the excellent guides here.

 

- Ask questions only when you have used the above search and read the forum's

 

Issues I have remaining to fix:

- Audio Line In and 5.1 is not working but I haven't really tried to make it work stereo is good enough for iTunes while I work on the system

- Sleep functions but I cannot wake up; I have disabled all sleep in the power settings and now just shut down a 10 second boot time is good enough for me

 

Thanks again without your hardwork this would not have been possible without me replacing my motherboard something like yourself I will consider doing in the next 6 months.

@ i have tried both two iatkos with r3 and r2, no bios update, no change of config anything!

both turned out to be the same result

-NO change of Applesmbios (can't enter desktop)

-No gfx string (blackscreen)

-no sle HDA ep (can't wake up)

-No full support of HDA

 

i missed my previous ToH install, which were all working great ;(

i suppose the files they installed are the same ... well i used 9C31 developer update before,

i don't suppose they will make any difference, but in fact they did ... ha..ha.. ha..

 

hope i can find out the reason, that would really help lots of people.. ah ..ah ..ha..

i managed to get r3 and install and everything goes fine i have done EXACTLY as your guide says and tried other things...but every time i reboot it wont boot just goes into the flashing cursor...iv tried almost everything? Whats the cause of this?

first of all, thx for your help..

i tried to read all the 45 sides of posts ....but i still got 3 big problems as you can see in my signature.

 

1) No SATA write access

i installed iAtkos R3 and updated to 10.5.2 including the GFX Update on a external usb ide drive. i am able to boot without using -x, -s, cpus=? are other kernel flags (i just use -v). i see all my pata (x2) and sata (x6) drives on my desktop. but i only have write access to the pata drives !

 

2) TimeMachine not working

i tried to activate time machine and choose a backup partition on the external usb ide drive. the partition is visible on my desktop and i can add or remove files on it. but time machine fails to create a backup using this partition. the error says something like "the drive is not available!"

 

3) No LAN !

yep, i still got no lan. so i always have to switch back to the xp partion :-(

i tried the nForceEthernet.kext, but its way to instable (system freeze) ! so i removed the kext.

 

do you have any suggestions how i could solve my problems ?

The kalyway installer doesn't cause the problem (i installed it by iteself to try and find the problem). I also tried reinstalling iatkos r3 with nvinject with the correct memory, and the kernel panics, I still can't put boot flags in at boot, because it's using the cd as a bootloader. Any words of wisdom?

1) i suppose your drive is formatted as ntfs, normally, ntfs under mac os x can only allow you read; unless you install ntfs-3g or paragon's ntfs driver that will grant you read/write access.2) the drive used by timemachine must be formatted as hfs+ .. and also en0 (network) must be in used/.3) onboard lan will not work atm, try grab yourself other nic or usb ethernet , i wonder if you really read the post thoroughly ..

fix your bootloader first, install the bootloader from the install disc again. (efi bootloader, exclude appleacpiplatform, vanilla kernel)also , choose the kernel with nforce fixed ...you may try to remove all gfx drivers, rm -rf NV* Ge* within the terminal in your install dvd .

i will try to grab kalyway's bootloader installer scripts and try that instead of iatkos' bootloader scripts to see if it will make any change... to see if it will help others with bootloader problem...

 

@easkay: i finished the guide pretty much, but didnt send it bcoz of two reasons: one is that i checked with durro's system, and it had nothing to do with iatkos' bootloader, bcoz it is installed, but is being ignore by mobo or hdd for unknown reason... second: i ve been busy lately with personal stuffs... I will get the kalyway's and some other ones to see if it will help others with bootloader issue... just wait patiently a bit...

I still can't get past that point where it hangs on install with same message I posted before. This is driving me nuts because it worked before.

 

If I put the iATKOSr3 on an 8Gb USB stick, can I boot and install from that? Do I need to actually install to the USB stick or can it boot from the iso file?

 

Any idea if I can install r3 to the USB stick on my mac G4 and then do a restore from that to my hack HD's?

 

That may be worth a shot to bypass the IDE DVD. Once it's installed, all should work fine as before.

 

As much as I don't want to, I may need to just buy a Gigabit P35-DS3R.

Tried that one, no luck, the strange thing is that it works fine after running the kalyway package and rebooting without running the gfx package. Although, one possible reason for nvinject screwing up is that my graphics cards are connected with the sli bridge (see below).

and yes, ur are right....the sata drives are ntfs formatted, i totaly forget about that....my fault :censored2: i ll try the paragon ntfs.

 

i really read all (ok, nearly all) posts...and i searched a lot to get my on board nic to work....

i just wanted to ask if theres meanwhile a working driver out there.

 

let me repeat the time machine issue just to get it right....did you mean that i have to activate my nic to use the time machine ?

Alright..well..I got it mostly working. I tried various kexts (forcedeth) to try and get the integrated lan working (RTL8211BL). The furthest I got with that was it saying that it was connected and such, but then it would freeze and I'd have to reboot to get anything to work. I found a "Proxim" NIC lying around that was an RTL8139 and tried the official release from Realtek that you posted on March 8th and it seems when there's any amount of network activity (Outside of normal browsing) the whole machine slows, unless it's just plain computer activity...although..it's strange, generally it's the mouse that slows down and is all jerky but it appears as though the keyboard is working at normal speed. So I guess I'm not sure if it's really a network thing...or graphics...or just some other factor. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

it's network issue, if you reload the kext, you'll have a smooth system again if there're no KPs.

How does this work with NTFS IDE ATA but with a sata or ata ide dvd drive. But thing is if I try turning making a ntfs partition it just freezes. This is HDD: Hitachi HDT725050 VLA SCSI DISK DEVICE.

I installed iAtkos 1.0 r3 today, it installed fine but when I'm trying to boot it wont work

Darwin loads but whatever I do it just goes back to the thing where I can enter "-v -x" and stuff.
