Nforce Chipsets: How to install Leo easy and fast with iAtkos v1.0i r3 - NForce Edition or Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD

Look at the card in my sig. Worked great out of the box.

My other problems are my own fault (I had iATKOSr3 working great before with the updates but I did something to mess it up) and I am trying to figure them out. It happened when I updated my bios. I'm sure it's a bios setting I'm overlooking but I have not seen a clear post on what the recommended bios settings are for nForce chipsets to work.

I bought/installed my card this month AFTER updating to X.5.2 and it worked fine.

@Mysticus,

Can you post your bios settings please so I can make sure mine match?

thanks

Ordered... when it comes in I will report back how it works for me!

thx

Myticus-

Thanks again for all the help, first of all.

I'm still having instability when I use my SATA hd's. If I stick to IDE and USB, system hasn't crashed yet (thanks to you!). Leo is on IDE, so that's fine. But I would love to get eSATA goin..

What are my options for getting reliable SATA and eSATA on this machine? Earlier, I tried a Sil 3132 based PCIe SATA card and had the same crash I was having before. Unfortunately, I returned it and can't test it now that the system seems more stable. Would a 3rd party card fix it, do you think? It seems to me that it should, but then again it didn't help before. Any thoughts?

Thanks

HP

btw- Regarding the crashes that do still happen. For instance, try to install FCS2 or Logic from dmg's on an eSATA drive, the progress bar will just stop moving and the computer can no longer see the drive. Finder still works, but if I try to open a hard drive, it's the beachball forever. I have to restart to restore the connection to my drives. I'm pretty sure this is consistant with some other people's NForceATA.kext experiences, but haven't found a solution.

If I plug that same external drive in via it's USB connection, FCS and Logic both install fine.

Just thought I'd include that in case there's a clue there.

unfortunately, i m not the one who is writing the nforce drivers, it is MeDevil, who is trying to help for nforce... and there is no official support from nvidia and there will never be unless apple decides to open up osx officially to all x86 machines... so thanx to medevil for his efforts in the first place, otherwise there would not be any sata drivers at all... nforce drivers are not mature yet... but medevil is trying his best i think...

so for sata problems, most reliable way is to use pata drives with appleviaata patching, and no nforce drivers...

I myself is planning to buy an intel chipset mobo in 1-2 months and continue from there, as I m tired of nforce problems... but i will be around still... :P

Yeh I got plans alike yours because it's really annoying with all that problems.

I've played around with some kext from different dvd's but I can't get nither the RTL8139 card nor my 8169 stable.

I think I'm going to buy another board soon

@Mysticus

the MD5 matched up so i know its not the disk.

and i have done ALOT of searching on google which searches this site as well and no one seems to have their problem replyed to.

should i try kalaway or just not waste my time getting that either

hi folks,

this seems to be the place to ask my question.

i have been struggling with a asus en7600gs 512mb pcie x16, trying to get qe and ci.

thats not the point for now though,,

i've noticed that if i provide all the nvdanv**hal.kext files,,,,system profiler/extensions shows that 40,and 50 are in use.

ordinarily i would have written this off,,,BUT

i have a dell laptop with 512mb 7600GT, which works completely. it has full res change, qe ci etc etc,,,,and under system profiler it says its using nvdanv50hal.kext

it seems to be understood that 6*** and 7*** cards take nvdanv40hal, yet both my cards seem to 'want' 50.

the strange this is too,,,,on the laptop,,,,nvdanv 10 20 30 40 and 50 are available, yet 50 is the only one in use?

anyways,i thought i'd ask if this was normal,,

maybe understanding this would help me on my quest towards getting qe and ci on my desktop (7600GS)

thanks all.

Mysticus- I think I agree.. I looked around for what Intel mobo ppl liked, and it seems like either The Gigabyte or the BadAxe2 are the leading contenders. Which one do you think you'll go with?-HPOne more thing- At this point I'd be happy if only IDE, USB and Firewire drives worked but my system stopped crashing. So you're saying if I take out AppleNForceATA.kext, and put my PATA dev ID in AppleVIAATA.kext (under the SATA section, right?) that I should become stable? That would make me very happy.I've had more crashing.. Logic crashed while changing samples on Addictive drums with only 4 tracks playing. I'm thinking this disk problem is going to haunt everything I want to do.So, would that work?Thanks..

Hey. For some reason, whenever I try to install leopard, the installation freezes when the bar is under the "l" in leopard, which is what i named my partition. I have tried to install three times now and i run into the same problem every time. I am moving my mouse around so i dont see why my dvd drive should be going to sleep... any ideas? I did choose 2 network drivers, if thats a problem...

MoOS : Winxp

Mobo : EVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR LGA 775 (Nforce 680i chipset)

Cpu : Intel Q6850 @ 3.0ghz

Ram : 3 x 1 GB sticks. I do not know what the brand name is, but if it is important, i can find out.

HDD Sata: 1 x 500 GB (are recognized but cannot test it as they are in raid mode and no raid driver exist)

HDD Pata : 1 x 250 GB (2 partitions, 1 for Downloads on windows, and 1 that I allocated for the leopard install)

DVD-RW Pata : noname DVDRW

VGA : Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX 768mb x2

Monitor : Sony 19'' Flast screen x2

Sound : Sound blaster card, but I believe I have onboard Realtek

Lan : 2xno idea.

USB Ports : 8xUSB 2.0

IEEE1394 Ports : 1xFirewire 400

PSU : 1000 W Storm

This is a wild guess, but you have 3 sticks of ram on a dual channel board with 4 slots, that might be the problem, or then again maybe not.

@easkay: 3 gb memory is not problem, it just may run your memory in half bandwidth instead of dual... and for 64 bit question, yes automatically 64 bit runs if your cpu is supported...

@compluva: what dvd do you have? check your PM... and add your specs to your signature like everyone else!!!! and read my PM, and try it again...

@hackpls and blackbird: there are two wireless cards that works fine without troubles, if you read my guide on post#2... for the mobo, i have not decided yet, but can be gigabyte i m guessing... didnt decide the model yet...

@stee: this is not a gfx card support board, for your problem you can try my 10.5.2 update guide and files, but cant guarantee it will work or not, you have to try yourself, 7x series you use 40hal driver, you should not have any problem if you can update to 10.5.2 using my guide on post#2 but do not expect more support for you, as this is not gfx card support topic, go to nvinject forums...

@rohizzle: your mobo is a new nforce chipset (meaining your device ids are missing on the nforce driver, so you will need to install on a usb enclosure, then add your sata/pata controller ids to nforce ata driver, and put your hdd back to sata port again and see if it will help recognizing your sata/pata and booting) if adding ids doesnt work, then most likely it may not work... sorry cant help you more than this...

note: people do not get answers usually bcoz they ask stupid questions or already answered questions... bcoz most people do not like to read a lot, and want answers to be told immidiately by posting their own, and dont wanna waste time by readin, and searching... some questions can not be answere with only one sentence like "help osx dvd doesnt work on my system".... these are the most stupid and common questions...

without proper detailed description of a problem, and your hardware specs, it is very hard to look for an answer... esp; people just say i have laptop and it doesnt work... anyways, once you understand what i mean, you will see why most questions dont have an answer...

I invited you to google talk if you didn't pick that up, I'm usually busy during the day but from 8ish onwards in the evening, I can be on google talk. How's the guide coming btw. Oh, i tried running iatkos off a sata disk and i unplugged my pata one and it didn't recognize it at all. The dvd wouldn't boot off it, so i guess it's sticking with pata for the mo.

I'm having the same issue. Open your installer log window while installing and tell me what the message is when it does this. Mine get's to "extracting" and that is where it falls asleep. It worked the first time but now does this at that point every time on this reinstall. I reburned my DVD and am going to try installing again tonight.

I had Leopard running once on this rig so if I can get past this point, I already know it works.

@Mysticus

I've tried reinstalling 10 times now.

In the installer log window, this is what is says on the last two lines every time it freezes and the light goes out on the DVD drive:

"starting file extraction"

followed by:

"opened receipt database on '/volumes/leopard/' with schema 17"

I think that last line points to the issue but I'm not sure.

It freezes at this exact same point every single time. Any ideas?

if it is validating, it takes about 10 mins on some machines, if it is saying extracting and after 10-12 mins nothing changes, sounds like your dvd may be damaged... have you tried burning a new one, at slow speed (4x or less)? and there is a possibility taht the dvd-r or dvd+r u are using is not a good one? but first wait for 10-12 mins... if still nothing changes, I cant say much, unless you made some hardware/software change? bios update/bios settings change or dvd change? or any other major change? for bios i mentioned some settings to check before:

execute disable bit: enabled

c1e power state: disabled

acpi state: s3 or s1 and s3?

should be enough... others not that important...

sata port make sure running in ahci mode... not raid or ide mode...

@Mysticus-

I realize the MeDevil is the one doing the NForce drivers, but I wanted to know if you thought I could sacrifice SATA usage for PATA stability with this NForce board? If I use the AppleVIAATA.kext, will it be stable for PATA only?

Thanks

sorry, i added my specs at the bottom of that post and thought it would be enough.

have since then appended spec to my sig.

DVD drive is some LG or HL pos.

EDIT: I am now trying with another dvd drive that i ripped out of a server.

Edit2: Same problem. no idea what to do. also, I tried once while updating firmware on the original, and it wouldn't even recognize the drive : [

any ideas?

@Hackpls: it is more stable than nforce if you use it for pata devices, downside is no sata support!

@compluva: you cant use any dvd to install leo on your nforce chipset, did you read the PM i sent you? and what dvd do you have right now?

:trumpet:

rings a bell

heres my rig

Asus P5n32-sli se deluxe

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600

2GB DDR2-800 OCZ DC GOLD XTC RAM

BFG Geforce 7900 gt OC

ATA DVD-RW drive

SATA HDD

you ring the bell on the wrong place... check your PM... it is written on the guide how to ring the bell, i guess it is very hard to change people's habit of not reading correctly...

I re-read your pm, and i honestly do not see anything reguarding a specific dvd drive or dvd disc.

the dvd drive i have is a HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-h55N.

The discs i am using are not branded,

I'm sorry if I am being difficult, im trying to give you the information you need.

Apple has got to love you guys who make putting OSX on any machine possible.

Because of this guide, I finally got OSX running on my desktop. Liked it so much , I just went out and purchased a Macbook Pro.

Never would have done that had I not played with OSX on my own machine first.

oh i see what you mean.

<----- dumb

yes, i have r3, i checked the md5 and it matched up perfectly.

should I downgrade? i do have the r2, i originally downloaded it from a torrent, and that matched up to the patched r2 md5 from your md5 list.

thank you so much for your help.
