@aqua: check your bios for

execute disable bit: enabled

acpi state: "s3 or "s1 & s3"

hpet: enabled or disabled doesnt matter

speedstep: disabled....

should be enough i guess...

good luck... also while installing check for install report to show entire errors and messages so you can see where it hangs... it may be your r3 maybe damaged on the go? have u checked md5 of it?

hi mysticus, ill be trying those options. i just reinstalled my vista so im reinstalling all programs n will take some time before getting things all up. i've been wondering how to check the md5 of my R3. ive read ppl mention about it by i cant figure it out :) thanks again

immidiate restart is a sign of wrong kernel... are you sure you have choosen the right kernel? also do you have the right dvd and md5 on the dvd? it sounds you either dont have the right dvd or you have choosen the wrong kernel during installation...

I've just tried reinstalling iatkos r3. The md5s are all correct. The computer cannot boot from the disk onto which i installed iatkos. I used mbr. I followed your guide to the letter, except adding extra drivers

her is another quote from your post

" With kalyway (booting off IDE HD) , the apple loading screen just comes up for a split second and the system reboots. In safe mode, I get the apple screen of death (you need to restart etc.) With iatkos r3 the loading screen stays for a good couple of minutes and then I get the screen of death"

you say kalyway is restarting in split second... not the iatkos... itkos stays couple of mins... now you are telling me that you get immidiate restart? I am confused... which one is actually restarting fast? kalyway? or iatkos? bcoz your answers are confusing, i cant point you to right direction unless you tell me correct answer...

make it clear and make sure of your installation version...?

@aqua: use a program called accuhash google it... (then go to tools/hash calculator) (hash type=md5, encoding=hexadecimal, browse your iso, calculate... it will give you an md5 value compare it with the one i posted on the post#2...

@xlitx: there is a chance that your usb may work if u update to 10.5.2 but not guaranteed...

Used MBR but can't boot my mobo paueses for a while then tries a network boot..

im using

XFX 680i LT mb

q6600 2.4ghz quad core

SATA 160gb Maxtor two partitions 1 osx 1 fat32

4gb ram 800mhz

XFX 8800 Ultra GPU

please help. thanks

Hi All;

I have been looking thru the threads on installing a Linksys WUSB54GC . Can anyone point me to an easy install?

Thx Kindly..

find out the built in chipset and look for some official drivers. you may have luck with realtek and ralink.

Mysticus-

Yes, I did follow the guide.. Almost to the letter.

I had the Waiting for Root Device error on DVD boot, so I used Transmac to put in the AppleNForceATA.kext from my old build that has my Dev ID's for SATA and PATA put in. I replaced the old one that is in the Plugins folder of IOATAFamily (I think.. I put it in the right place for Leo) For reference, the Dev ID's are:

Sata: 037F10DE

Pata: 036E10DE

This let me boot the DVD and install with 0 problems.

As far as the AppleVIA solution, I tried it on my last install (ToH) and saw no difference. I had this exact same problem with my last Leo install (FCP won't export, Toast won't burn)

I have also tried a 3rd party, SIL3132 based Sata card. Crashes did not go away. But then again, FCP data was on eSATA drive, and Leo is installed on PATA drive.

So I tried copying all project data from the SATA drive to the Leo boot drive. No change. Same crash on export with no SATA involved.

As I said, I also tried using the VIA kext instead of medevil's NForceATA kext for my PATA drive. Since I didn't expect it to work for the SATA drives, I erased NForce kext and, as expected, the SATA drives did not work. I had the FCP data all on the Leo boot drive (PATA) at this point, but had the same export crash again.

Back to this install---

After making the custom DVD, I followed the guide in post 2 until step 11.

I chose no VGA or Network drivers.. Network works out of the box (PCIe NIC), VGA I'd get to later.

I chose the X86 bootloader. Could I have chosen EFI? It was my understanding the EFI would only work on Intel chipsets, not NVidia. I realize now maybe I should have stuck to the guide straight?

I chose the same kernel as you show, and did not check the boxes to remove the 2 kexts (it mentions that one is for AMD and one is only necessary on some compy's, so I left them alone.) Again, maybe I should have stuck to exactly how you show it?

Install went smooth.. Proceeded to 10.5.2 and graphics update.

Kalyway 10.5.2 is painless. However, on this step-----

"6-) Open the "Full Gfx Update v1.1" folder where Gfx update files are. You will see lots of files inside the folder"

I got stuck.. The download link (2b in your list) was taking me to the comboupdater like 1b. I see now that that link is fixed...

So I installed the 10.5.2 update from Apple instead... It of course gave me a kernel panic, so I booted into safe mode and put in my dev ID (061110DE) into all the graphics kexts. I also copied in NVInject (with my dev id) and rebooted. Kool & The Gang.

Since I still on the 9.0.0 kernel, I installed the CORE kernel from the C31 download somewhere else on this forum.

Should I try reinstalling again now that I have the file Full GFX update 1.1 and see if the EFI bootloader can work?

I think the problem is high disk activity crashing the Nforceata driver, but it doesn't seem to be the SATA side of the driver... I guess I could try a PCI IDE card... :D

Sorry for the long post, but you said you like specifics...

Thanks very much in advance for any help you can offer..

Kalyway is 10.5.1 but it can be ignored for now. ignore everything i said about iatkos except that fact that it is now not booting.

@bassmanz I have the driver on the update installer package (check post#2 where it says 10.5.2 update ...gfx update v1.1) see the drivers/network/rt73_2500_2870wusb driver is the one you need for that wireless card...

@durro: go to your control panel/edit signature/copy paste your specs/update signature please first... I said this a million times, people still dont read the posts, and people still dont know...

for your boot, did you set your boot order correctly from bios? did you install everything as in the guide?

@hackplease: why do you choose everything according to your assumptions? The suggested settings are main settings for nforce chipset!!! the only thing i didnt mention is the individual drivers... Please select exactly the way it is shown, and do not make any assumption of different settings and other stuffs... If you do choose your own mixed settings I cant help you, bcoz you will confuse me, as you will choose wrong stuffs with wrong assumptions...

Make a clean install, and install with the main settings as exactly I mentioned on the guide! They are necessary! After that start with -v to see if you can boot correctly to GUI... or see if any major errors there that prevents the boot... Later follow the 10.5.2 update guide... The files were correct how ever, I placed them to wrong place, like 1b to 2b, and 2b to 1b but corrected it later when i realized it...

no sorry for long post as long as you can describe everytg you do, and much better than saying " I did everything on your guide, and it doesnt work" bcoz when people say this I hate it as they dont provide any single information about what they did what they didnt, what worked and what doesnt work, and it is really stupid... thanx for providing all the info of what you did...

@easykay: Look, first get the r3 if you didnt, bcoz I dont see in your messages that you really have the r3 or not, you are very confusing... You are not providing any proper information...

First install r3 as exactly said in the guide! Next boot normal, if it give panic or restart error, boot with -v, r3 shouldnt restart immidiately, if you choose the correct settings, apparently you are not doing anything correct... Once you boot with -v it will show you all the boot messages/errors etc during the boot process, so you can take screen caps and upload them and post the link, so I can see what is not working... otherwise, I cant really help you if you keep saying it doesnt work, it gives error, bla bla, is not helping at all... Just press f8 when it asks, type -v and press enter, it should show you verbose mode, so you can see all the messages...

Good luck

Asus P5N-E SLI: Kernel Panic on Leo4All 10.5.2

I install the Netkas 9.2 Kernel, have to switch the cpus=1 flag for installation or it will panic,

I installed it with the medevil new nvidia sta, and it detects the drives and seems to be working without troubles,

i install the network nforce kext as well, still the sys crashes just (i think) before trying to switch into GUI.

I got a kernel Panic:

from 3 nvidia related modueles

com.apple.NV... (Geforce 5.2.2

i also have to use the boot darwin from the dvd, cause the mbr installation didnt worked for me, but i cant

spare the whole drive (partitioning new) for os x, so i boot through the dvd, just leaving it in drive.

I got an ATI Radeon 2900 PRO, and i tried to not install the ATI Drivers that comes with leo4all, still the same,

Has anyone runned into this before? Ive read that some ppl got success with this board!

did you read my guide on post #2 at all?

@mui: dont encourage stock acpi! i told you, it doesnt work correctly on all nforce mobos, and it can cause kernel panic related to acpi...

@durro: just run the r3 dvd, and choose correct partition before going to customize window, than on custom window choose only efi bootloader... nothing else... but from your previous post, I can see that you have mainly boot order issue... 1) cd 2) hdd 3)network is the right order combination! you have something wrong over there! fix that from bios first...

I tried reinstalling the EFI but it doesn't load osx it pauses then tries a network boot

your first problem is in bios, the boot order!!! go to bios settings and set your boot devices order to

1) cdrom

2) hdd

3) network or floppy or whatever...

first fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bios was alredy like that.. i boot up fine into XP

explain couple of things:

which hdd you boot from?

is it on raid mode?

is your hdd set to boot directly in the boot order of hdds (you have mutliple hdds so is their boot order is correct as well?)... or are you using windows and chain loading?

and what exactly is happening with details in step by step...

In My system i have 4 hdds

1x 500gb hitch - Xp boots off this

1x 160gb Maxtor - Partitioned into 2, (1 partition has the Mac OSX install on it the other is blank).

1x 160gb Maxtor - Storage

1x 130gb Samsung- Storage

I dont have any raid setup

When i want to boot into OSX i enter the boot menu useing ESC during posting and select the Mactor Drive, It pauses and then tries to boot via network. Nothing todo with osx comes up.

your osx is on 160gb hdd, and it looks like 2 identical hdd, are you sure the right one is set to boot from? bcoz i can see the problem you define is bios cant see a bootloader and jumps to another device category in boot order to look for... thats the reason... let me explain this way:

bios first checks device type in boot order cd/hdd/network whatever is set in the order...

than it checks if there are multiple cdroms/hdds/nics, and checks the first one in the category than if it cant find goes to next category)

say you set your bios as i said, cd/hdd/network order

than you need to check correct hdd in the boot order... (bcoz you have two identical hdds, sounds like you are setting the storage one in the order instead of os x one...

ok? check them and report back...

Ive checked and im definatly trying to boot off the correct 1.

unplug the sata cable from the storage one pls and check from the bios again and set it to see correct one... make sure you are doing right... bcoz it looks like it cant find a bootloader at all..

if this doesnt work as well, than most likely bootloader doesnt like to load from your hdd, this happens with some hdd brands sometimes...

but you need to make sure you have the correct sata hdd with the osx on it that stays connected and not the other identical one... bcoz it can confuse you if they are same hdd model brand, so you need to make sure of the correct one...

I have previousely tried unpluging all but the one with osx on it

When i installed i had unpluged all the otheres and then i still had the same problem.....

Will i make a difference if i dont partition the drive in 2. and just have one with mac os x on it?

Will a third party bootloader do the job?

mysticus, i went through your guide, now it seems to work fine, but now my display seems to be screwed, the driver detects my card right,

but after initializing into gui, both screens display some garbage, i can see some movement when i try to move the mice, and the os responds

to keyboard input, i installed radeon kextes from leo4all, anyone know how to fix it?

Great HOW To Mysticus!

on leo4all: i didnt actually needed to delete the nvidia kextes by hand, i just installed 10.5.2 nvidia kextes as well, thou my radeon is detected

but the graphics are screwed :( sata works fine, a little bit slow when booting, but the overall performance seems to be good, sata driver freezes for

a while thats why booting takes a little bit longer then on pata
