zonker
Don't know what happened but I can't boot into either of my OSX5.2 partitions. It won't even let me select them to boot from. I pick the partition and try -v, -s, you name it and nothing. Quick flash about Darwin and then back to partition selection. I tried to erase and repartion the drive and I get a kernel panic with the "you need to reboot your computer... hold the power button down for several seconds" transparent box. This panic happens about half way through the reinstall. Any ideas on what I can do? Booting from the DVD gives an error about the coreraidserver not being detected/found. any help is appreciated. Mysticus C*
@rohizzle: check your PM @bassmanz: good luck with your system... welcome aboard @darkstorm: nope not this time... sorry @nielsie: check your pm @zonker: I cant know what you did wrong as I cant tell from what you are saying... are you using a HDD for only OSX on it? or mixing with the main ones? if it is a standalone hdd for osx, then before you go into installer, go to utilities menu and click on disk utility, from disk utility choose your hdd, go to partition menu on the right, choose 2 or 3 partition scheme and from the options menu on the bottom, choose MBR scheme, change each partition name to stg like OSX1 OSX2... and then click partition button... once finished close that window and continue to install window, and read the guide on the post#2 good luck... muitommy
@mysticus i'm afraid it will not work by removing the pata support of nforceata, and transfer to control to applevia, at least this didn't work for me ... freeze will still happen if nforceata is in used (not tested, draw this conclusion by yours and mine experience) well, things may vary for different specsification .. I tried it on my sata hdd, and it works, but still slow due to my other 3 sata hdds in raid mode, and cant be initialized causing problems... have you tried the latest nforce ata test driver for sata and appleviaata together? I have purposely wrote in big size so people cant ignore the message... apparently either people are ignorant or stupid about what is said... it is quite clear... dont frigging jump to the last post! for god sake, read the first two posts!!! and read especially the post #2!!!! it already says write a signature, right a proper description of the problem why is people are ignoring this? JollyRogers
@muitommy Hey I just noticed your sig regarding sleep working flawlessly. Other then the occassional lockups with medevil's kext, and no sleep the box is pretty solid. Can you tell me how you got there regarding sleep? I am using 9.2 sleep kernel also, but when I sleep my rig, I can't wake it cause I loose all USB, at least that is how it seems. What are your BIOS settings for at S1 & S3 or what? The only thing I see different is you are using EFI and I am not. Is that why you have success? codingmonkey
Hello Mysticus! You have an excellent guide and I hope to follow it to success. However, with the iAtkos v1.0i DVD that I have (I md5sumed it so it looks good), my computer reboots within the first couple of files being loaded. I'm not exactly sure which version of iAtkos it is, but I got it here and I can't remember the site I checked the md5sum with (I'll edit the post when I find it). I start the installation with the -v parameter (I've tried with -s and -x and with cpus=1), I can see a few files load, and then BOOM, my computer reboots. I've also tried factory BIOS settings, which removes the overclock, and I still have the same result. I have greater success with the Kalyway DVD in that I am able to boot to the initial Apple installation, however, the installation freezes completely when I try to format a partition using Disk Utility. I'm trying to install Mac OS X on a hard drive shared with Windows. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time! the_serb
Ok I will be as detailed as possible. First off this is the first time I'm asking for help regarding computers since Google and my personal experience just couldn't help this time around. I am not exactly new to OSX on PC as I have installed it before on a Toshiba laptop with a few problems (blinking cursor) that I managed to figure out. However I decided to pull out some parts lying in my basement and get another Hackintosh running. That is where the problems started. 1. Tried installing with the iATKOS 1.0i r1 but would not boot to installer. 2. Found the right patched and patched it to 1.0i r3. 3. Ran the installer: -Ran disk utility -Partioned the drive in Journaled Extended -Named it "MAC" and made sure that it was in MBR Mode. -(skipped the terminal config and flagging this time round) -Selected customize with Darwin Boot x86 selected and the drivers I thought I might need (including the patches mentioned in this forum) -Ran Install (this is where i was slightly confused since it took me forever to run an install...2hrs..but I let it go through) 4.Rebooted Now here I've tried everything possible, boot with DVD, without DVD, -v, -x, cpus=1, booted into DVD and ran the flagging in terminal...EVERYTHING! Now evertime I reinstalled it, which i think I'm on the 5th time...I have had different errors....most recently the No Root Device...and did I mention that in the -v option it stated that the drive may not support LBA...so I have no clue...I can install iATKOS(very slowly) but cannot boot into Leopard! I think I covered most of it maybe not but I'm pleading for some help because I have been at this for 2 days straight and if I did not mention something let me know and I'll post it ASAP. Thanks in advanced! PS.I also tried iATKOS1.0 r2....running it now Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/87901-nforce-chipsets-how-to-install-leo-easy-and-fast-with-iatkos-v10i-r3-nforce-edition-or-kalyway-1052-dvd/page/27/#findComment-674487 Share on other sites

muitommy
@jolly i thought mysticus have answered your question, btw, you may want to try it yourself still. bios = S1&S3, and netkas sleep kernel are my options, no special tricks there indeed. @mysticus hmm, tried that too .. and no help, that test drivers didn't address that problem. btw, i'm kinda interesting why that release is a lot smaller than the previous one. @jade describe your problems clearly, where did you stalled? use verbose mode -v and try to identify the problems. @serb you should apply the r3 patch to your iatkos r2, not ir1 ... sound like a big problems lies behind for such long installations time, it should be darn fast . Mysticus C*
@the_serb: i dont think you have nforce chipset at all... you have ati xpress 200 vga, which makes me think your chipset is ATI... therefore our DVD may not be an answer for your system, unless you are sure that you have nforce chipset? bcoz the dvd may not have your chipset driver which is the one that should recognize your hdd so you can boot. but strange is that u can boot but cant and install on the hdd but first boot cant find the hdd? you need to check which driver loads up during installation... (check during dvd boot with -v) check a line saying bsd rdysx (y=0,1,2... x=1,2,3..)above that bsd line you shall see a driver name loading your hdd at the end of that line @jade: give step by step description and if possible, screen caps (boot with -v as well) so we can see details of errors... only than we can be able to help... @mui: tried what and what problem is not addressed? which drivers you are talking about? early version? or latest version right now? have u tested the latest version which i posted to first page post#2? the reason why it is big is bcoz, I added extra drivers (50+) in addition to original gfx drivers... check the list couple of pages ago... i posted screen caps... see why it is big... also one hope maybe for network.... DvP have netgear wg111v3 wireless nic, and stress testing it... with 7-8 big files download from http, and torrent at the same time... and lots of web pages, so far, network didnt drop... or any freeze... looks like it is hopefull device for nforces... at least drivers are made for leo and it is official driver... and device is relatively new... Mysticus C*
Hey guys, I think, Netgear WG111V3 wireless card is working without droping any connection, even at 6-7 files downloading from http, and some torrents and surf the net without a hitch... I asked DvP to stress test it and for long enough, it is running stable, after all the updates... looks like our network drivers for 8139 and some others are not well designed for leopard... as you all know they are originally compiled for 10.4.8 or earlier... so that makes me think that network.fr may not be the problem, but drivers themselves, bcoz there is a flushing structure in network drivers related to caches/buffers during rx/tx packets... i check the source, and i can see the traces of flushing functions in some places... so seems to be the key to our problems as they are all written around 10.4.8 or earlier, and paralel to our problem started with the kernel... I already added the driver for netgear wg111v3 on the update installer if u check it... RTL8187BUSBWireless is the driver... but this is for the v3 wireless card, which uses different nic chip in it than the v2... just to let you know... @mui: I think i will solve the RS problem got an FTP server help from one user i think... AV9
Hey guys, I gave up on the Realtek 8139 drivers, broke down and bought a Linksys WUSB54GC wireless dongle. $40-50 bucks at any local retailer, probably cheaper online. Used the drivers from the post on the LAN and Wireless forum (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=33913). It's working great with no network drops during heavy usage (downloading multiple, 1 GB+ files right now).
