OK! Thank you so much for everything you have no idea how long its been trying to install any verison any distro of Mac OS X on my MB. I have (not kidding) 8 DVDs of diff installers Leo and Tiger.

I need some help though, currently do not have drivers for most of my computer.

I need USB drivers badly... but I don't know how to get any files on the mac without them. I have installer for both my video card and networking but there beta and can't install without USB.

I need help installing Nvinject also. I can't find any guides.

Thank you.

usb should be working on your system, but if you have the problem of usb drives not mounting, you can try booting while usb flash drive is on any usb port... see if it will mount your usb flash disk?

for gfx card you can try updating to 10.5.2 using the post#2 guide&files... you dont need any guide to install driver for nvinject, you just select correct memory amount on the nvidia driver of the vga section... thats it, if it works it works if it doesnt, you may need video bios flashing which I ve written info about where you can find it...

for sound blaster I dont think there is a ny drivers for it? unless it is usb version?

@jolly: you need to have a DVD in the first place to be able install os x... so yes! you need it...

Thanks for the PM telling me where to get the "DVD" :) , but if you read my signature I am already running OSX86 on my machine:

Machine 1:

OS: Triple boot via GRUB: Leopard 10.5.2 w/ToH 9.2.0, VISTA 64bit, Ubuntu 7.10 64bit

Motherboard: Asus P5N32E-SLi 680i

yes I can see it i said already you have one, but iatkos r3 is the one stop installation dvd for this mobo... else with other installation dvds, you will wrestle quite a bit to get it running in the first place... thats why i sent u the information, but it is your choice like i said... i have same mobo as yours and i know how painfull it is to get os x to install and making it up and running... with iatkos only takes 10 mins... so if you have modified dvds or any other method of installation... of course you can just ignore my PM...

Thanks for your great on this I am a total newb on getting OSX on a PC so I cant wait to give your tutorial a try. I really want to use Final Cut Pro so hopefully I can get it to run stable until I can afford to buy a real Mac Pro.

Thanks again on your efforts with this.

read my PM carefully so you understand what is what... and esp, the last paragraph!

hi mysticus, sorry but dis is a quick reply since i gotta run to work. i burned the R3 already, n everything went well until half way through the actual installation progress (progress bar). then it crashes n asks me to restart again. no matter how many times i try, it always happens the same spot or somewhere close to middle. could it be something dat i need to disable in bios or something? i do keep moving my mouse. thanks again mysticus. hopefully its not something i missed from your guide.

Alright! I have 10.5.2 installed, QE/OpenGL, network, and sleep functions all work. However, I'm having constant problems with the sound. I tried several of the different drivers in the iAtkos update, and I also tried using the AppleHDAPatcher as well as the SoundMAX AD1986A driver.

At first the sound card would at least show up in my System Preferences (though nothing came out of the sound card), but now it won't show anything at all. I tried altering some of the code according to one guide I read about the AD1986, but that didn't work either. Any suggestions?

Not the man you're looking for, but seeing as we have comparable hardware I thought I'd lend a suggestion or two:

If I were you I'd reburn r3 again, at the slowest possible speed for your burner (mine is 2.4x, I believe), and keep trying. On average it took me about three to four installation attempts to get a successful install of Leopard when I was tweaking with drivers that made me format every few hours. I'd get the "Install Failed" and have to retry, retry, retry.... very time-consuming, and frustrating. But I assure you if any OSx86 release will run on a 680i LT SLI, it's iATKOS r3.

Oh, before I forget, moving the mouse never really did all that much for me... but I did it fanatically anyhow!

Thank you.

I tried using VGA instead of DVI, with the NVJECT 512MB and i get the spinning ball thats at a good resoulution, but when the welcome screen comes my monitor turns off and blinks.

Im also going to try using the back USB, I was using front panel, and that might be my problem.

hey guys is there already a solution for fixing the network problem ?

I've already bought a RLT8169 instead of my RLT8193 but it still drops connection after a few seconds.

thanks

Hello Mysticus!

You have an excellent guide and I hope to follow it to success. However, with the iAtkos v1.0i DVD that I have (I md5sumed it so it looks good), my computer reboots within the first couple of files being loaded. I'm not exactly sure which version of iAtkos it is, but I got it here and I can't remember the site I checked the md5sum with (I'll edit the post when I find it). I start the installation with the -v parameter (I've tried with -s and -x and with cpus=1), I can see a few files load, and then BOOM, my computer reboots. I've also tried factory BIOS settings, which removes the overclock, and I still have the same result.

I have greater success with the Kalyway DVD in that I am able to boot to the initial Apple installation, however, the installation freezes completely when I try to format a partition using Disk Utility. I'm trying to install Mac OS X on a hard drive shared with Windows.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

Thank you Mysticus for your PM. My installation was failing because I did not have the iATKOS 1.0i RC3 installation DVD. It is imperative that one has the RC3 version because all the other DVDs include older NForce drivers which will cause your installation to fail or not start. Again, thanks for your help Mysticus!

Hi, I kinda browsed through this entire thread and got lost in the sea of updates that Mysticus was posting along.

I would like to clarfiy some things that im unsure of:

1) are the updates Mysticus posted reflected on the first post and guide updated for these updates?

2) after browsing through, i did not manage to find the link to the r3 patch. i have the r2 iso. can anyone point it out for me?

3) the pc im trying to install on is an acer aspire m5640, which uses the nVidia® GeForce® 7100 and nForce® 630i chipset. is there an updated bios for it? shld i use the bios posted on acer's website, or can i use the bios from nvidia website?

4) im installing it on behalf on someone else. so i'll not be doing it from my place. therefore, any advice on what software i should download and bring along just in case?

Here's the link to the system specs: http://www.acer.com.sg/products/aspireM564...aspireM5640.asp

Hi, I've been trying for quite a while and reading around about osx86 and judging from what I've seen from other 680i users, I have a different problem (i think).

The install succeeds (kalyway or iatkos either work). And then I try and boot. With kalyway (booting off IDE HD) , the apple loading screen just comes up for a split second and the system reboots. In safe mode, I get the apple screen of death (you need to restart etc.) With iatkos r3 the loading screen stays for a good couple of minutes and then I get the screen of death. There's no way for me to put it into verbose mode as I have to use the dvd to get it to boot off the HD. Can anyone share some ideas?

I'll run through this guide once more just to check I didn't miss anyting.

Any help would be grately appreciated

@easykay: boot with -v and get me screen caps where it hangs or causes panic... so i can be helpful, otherwise, you will turn round n round without knowing what is actually causing trouble...

@kenzzy:

+ please add your specs to your signature like everyone else, so we dont have to browse to find your specs...

+ after reading so many pages? I hate this kind of lies...dont jump to the last page immidiately... i hate these kind of people... people claim they read but they dont read 90% of the stuff and skip most of the things... you didnt see the trumpet on the page#1 post #2? need to use googles I think... your eyes have problem...

+ for your bios or other things we cant know exactly what problems related to your bios, so its your own problem to find out...

+ if you are doing it for someone make sure you take full responsibility, so that in case if you doom the PC you dont blame anyone else...

@codinmonkey: good luck with your system, on board lan doesnt work, but there are couple wireless lan which you will not have any trouble later like we have with 8139/8169... just read couple of pages/posts backwards I posted you will find it...

@blackbird: there is no solution yet for rtl 8139/8169 nics, only recently we found out that there are two new wireless nic cards that doesnt give trouble at heavy usage... check back 1-2 pages earlier you will see my post regarding them...

@xLitsx: well if nvinject doesnt help unfortunetely the only way is to use video bios flashing, which i mentioned the link to the information place where you need to look, check post #2 for update section, where i make caution regarding gfx cards at bottom part of update...

@la-li-lu: check the hda patcher's page, to see if it is gonna work or not... else you can still use my stereo driver on my update package... if it is desirable for you.... else sorry cant help with individual devices...

@aqua: check your bios for

execute disable bit: enabled

acpi state: "s3 or "s1 & s3"

hpet: enabled or disabled doesnt matter

speedstep: disabled....

should be enough i guess...

good luck... also while installing check for install report to show entire errors and messages so you can see where it hangs... it may be your r3 maybe damaged on the go? have u checked md5 of it?

Mysticus, i did read through the guide, but from the way you phrased it, i thought the trumpet only contained the full iso and not the patch. In any case, thanks.

And i did read through the pages, and u posted updates in new posts, in which i was unable to notice if you did update the guide at the front page. becoz specifically, i remember in one of the updates, u said u're going to merge the graphics card patch and the main 10.5.2 patch together, if i didnt understand wrongly. and the reference in the guide is still to 2 different patches. so i was wondering if it was completed but not reflected, or its not done yet.

I dun exactly like to be accused of a liar, even if you're helping me out of ur free will.

i m tired of arguing with people about these subjects... you apperantly didnt read it carefully... updates and patches are different things... you either dont know what i mean, or you are relatively new to osx...

r3 patch that is applied to iatkos v1.0i r2 os x version 10.5.1, and it solves problems related to booting and installing osx on nforce chipsets...

apple releases updates time to time... so you may want to update, in this case I made another installer package, so that people can update 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 version and not doom the current working one, but improve its capabilities and fix some minor issues... I initially wanted to make the update package all in one but decided not to due to time consuming process involved, but made it still easy to do... thats what you are talking about ... it is not patch, it is update package... and on the title of it, says already 10.5.2 update, I accuse you lying bcoz you do one of the things i mentioned, you either skim read (skip many important information) or you actually didnt read and jumped to the last page... this two cases are most common in osx forums, people dont read it or search rather find it easy to post to last page and wait for an answer... if you read the entire topic, you will see how many times i had to ask people to do the same things again and again, I hope you would keep your patience under similar situation even if u have to post same thing 100+ times...

good luck...

im new to osx, but i did understand the differences between the official apple patches and your updates. i guess i was mistaken when i thought you meant to combine the apple patch and your graphics update packages together.

In my original post, i only asked if the updates were reflected on the main guide itself. It probably doesn't overlap with what most others asked, which is asking for help and support 99% of the time. Therefore, i don't see why ur frustration was directed at me, when the only wrong i did was to miss the trumpet. The way u phrased it was not obvious to me anyway.

I did not see the need to post the full system specs as i was not asking for specific help of the installation on the system. It was just a very casual question on the chipset bios, i only posted a link in case anyone wanted to take a look.

I can understand your frustration on people who don't read, but i am not one, and therefore i take offence in being accused as one.

That said, it's a great work u're doing for the community and i appreciate it. Your dedication to this project is commendable.

Hi;

I have a working system with iATKOS r3 ,update done on system and graphics. Running 1920 x 1200. I am getting random lockups on the system (screen freezes with mouse) and have to reboot. I have done several fresh installs with new partitions. Just wondering if it is my machine wise or software issues. How can I check what caused the crashes?

Thx Kindly..

Ok.. I did a complete reinstall.

My current install is in my sig.

Used AppleNForceATA.kext for drives.

Network is recognized with no driver selected.

Installed iAtkos R3 as described here.

Updated to 10.5.2 using Kalyway updater

Installed graphics update.

Editted .kexts for my 8800GT (0x061110de)

Have tried a couple different kernels with no real difference. Using Nforce Core No HPET 9.2 kernel right now.

Mostly everything works great.

Here's my issues:

Issue #1 (The BIG one)

Final Cut Studio 2 (FCP6) crashes anytime I export a file to Quicktime. I was able to successfully export a very short mov, but anything of a reasonable length (4 minute encoding time or so) crashes. And the crash is a complete freeze, not a kernel panic. Mouse just stops moving and screen is frozen requiring a hard reset.

Issue #2:

Toast won't burn anything. Profiler says I have burn support (Generic) but it won't work in Toast or Disk Utility. On my last install (ToH), Toast would hang like FCP). On this install, Toast opens the burning dialog, but never progresses off 0%. It's not frozen, as I can click the STOP button, and it will say "Aborting". However, the system is usually so wonky after that that I restart anyway.

Issue #3:

USB drive mounting seems to be very intermittant. Works for a bit, then won't mount after eject... Least of my worries right now.

btw- If it makes any difference, I had to manually inject the AppleNForceATA.kext into the iAtkos dmg before I burned it because my DVD is SATA and my HD is IDE. This was the only way I could get it to boot, and MAN was it the FASTEST install on this hackintosh!!

Also, during the Graphics update part of the guide, I was not able to find the file referenced (the download link is the combo updater, not the graphics update). I installed the Graphics update from a download from software update. Gave me kernel panic 5 seconds after install, so I booted Safe and put my dev id into Geforce.kext, NVDaresman.kext, NVDan50HAL.kext and I copied in NVInject.kext too. Rebooted, voila.

As for the Kernel, I'm using ones from the C31 download. Using the 2 different NForce kernels, I can see no difference.

If anyone can help with the FCP problem, I'd be forever greatful.. That's the real reason I need the Hackintosh.

Thanks!

@bassmanz: the random lock ups so far i see are resulted from one of two things or both;

+ nforce ata driver (for either pata or sata dont know exactly but I know it is combination of both)

+ network cards on board or 8139/8169 and some minor other ones of which drivers are quite old 10.4.8 or older...

for nforce ata driver; I used to have many lock ups during pata hdd access, but got rid of it by using appleviaata patch... which i mentioned how to do it, in one of my posts... you just need to search it in early posts of this topic if you are using pata hdd for osx... if you have sata disk, i cant say much... but would suggest sata/pata converter so you can still use same hdd in ide/pata port...

for network card, I can only confirm of two wireless cards which i also mentioned 1-2 pages ago that works without freezing the system or dropping the network...

I occasionaly have lock ups for unforseen reasons due to mobo, or invidual devices, which I normally have in windows as well, either related drivers or invidual devices cause problems... these are very rare...

good luck...

@k3nzzy: please read carefully, I get annoyed very quickly after many same posts, same answers like "why do i need to post my full specs etc..." there are very good reasons to post your specs in your signature (control panel/edit signature)... one is that anyone who may have an answer to your question doesnt need to scroll back and forth to find your specs after couple of posts... another is that we can see what you have, where you have it, so we can tell u different suggestions about how you should do it if what you do is wrong, another one would be is that once you sort out everytg, people with same specs will see your signature, therefore you can pay back all the helps you received by guiding other people with same specs with least experience when you are asked for help... if you think of it carefuly, you will understand, otherwise I m getting sick of people explaining the same thing again and again...

for the patch part, I was talking about nforce patch which is needed for gfx update package on nforce mobos.... still it is gfx update, not a dvd patch... I also posted the results of the installer to the guide on post#2 in page#1 as well... so you wouldnt need to search it all over... apperantly you didnt understand it either, I dont blame you for being a newbie, but dont make claims like I didnt find it anywhere or anything similar, bcoz majority of the people who say that sentence, dont really read information/guides carefully... thats the reason I get annoyed and frustrated...

@hackplease: did you use the guide on the page1 post2? with the files given on the guide? if not? first, take a look at it bcoz it doesnt freeze your system when you do the updates, bcoz updates are patched for nforce chipset...

if you did read/see it? I can suggest you couple of things, first your problem may be related to smbios issues, or nforcesata...

for smbios, you can choose either one of the smbios files given in the update package, or get the latest smbios from netkas, from netkas.org website...

for FCP issue, I cant say for sure, but my guess is it is related to nforce sata driver which has many freeze issues still... and your sata dvd burner is not burning bcoz sata optical devices are not very well supported yet... so better to get both hdd and dvd for pata... or at least converter...

if you tell me your pata device id (from windows/device manager/ide controller primary/secondary controller/properties/details/hardware ids), I can make one appleviaata patch for you so you can try it out... so you can see if it will have any issue with files... (first solve this and check the smbio option next if it doesnt help...)

good luck...

Hi all.

After that I have spent 2 months trying to fix bugs on my nforce mobo I've given up and I've bought a more Leopard friendly Gigabyte mobo.

However I want to thank Mysticus and all the guys involved in this nforce project. Keep up the good work.

good job/choice: Like I many times I said, sometimes easiest options is to spend some money :) buy intel chipset mobo that is leopard friendly can save you tons of hassle and time...

I tried putting it into verbose mode, but it reboots too quickly for me to see anyting.

I'll film it with my camera and try and find what it says for you, maybe attack a couple o frames.

Cheers

immidiate restart is a sign of wrong kernel... are you sure you have choosen the right kernel? also do you have the right dvd and md5 on the dvd? it sounds you either dont have the right dvd or you have choosen the wrong kernel during installation...

OK, as long as the usb is pluged in during boot, it will find it otherwise if you plug in after install you have to wait like 10 mins before it will reconize it.

No big deal... I can live with it.

Is there any sound I can get from my soundblaster card or at least the onboard sound on my MB (sig)

I used generic drivers and got {censored} resoulutions during install, but i went to NVinject website and downloaded the newest release of it 512MB verison and it worked. All resoulutions and card is working PERFECTLY :)

I went to Best Buy and bought the Netgear GA311 NIC, and it worked perfectly from the realtek driver.

Thanks agian, all I need is sound and ill have a perfectly working 100% Leo...

*hugs* lol, may be silly but u have no idea how hard and long i've tried and im happy i found the answer here with you.
