Nevermind, just realized that those are the files attached to the initial post. I couldn't get it to work anyway. My specs:

D830

2 GB

GMAX3100

iAtkos 2i

Sound working (Dell postinstaller)

Booting from external USB

Any ideas how to get the x3100 working?

Upgrade to 10.5.3 or 10.5.4 and install the files then. You need to delete the new gmax3100 kexts after upgrading, they'll be in the extensions folder. Once you delete them, reboot, and then install the kexts in the first post.

I'll respond to the posts in order:

roneil4: HDAEnabler is the replacement for ALCinject. Supposedly there are some underlying improvements, but the main feature is that it reports the sound properties in the system profiler. However, it is known to not work on some machines. This seems to be something that can be corrected in the kext, as has been mentioned on Taruga's forums, but has not been done yet. I will try a vanilla install sometime, but I'm currently happy with Chameleon plus a tscsync patched kernel. The tscsync patch kernel is compiled vanilla plus tscsync patch and minus other architectures. It's basically vanilla. Were you able to try A13 for Intel graphics?

bsoplinger: Chameleon is a bootloader, an evolution of PCEFI. It detects FSBs better, specifically the n/2 issue, and has other improvements for various hardware. If you're not having trouble, you probably don't need to install it. The latest NVKush has the 135M, I checked with Diabolik on that. Thanks for the info on A13 and NVIDIA, I'll update the wiki.

Thanks,

Assuming you have a USB keyboard/mouse, install the attached kext and the kexts in sleep_fix from the first post. Then reboot and you should be good.

Are you using 10.5.4? If not, follow the instructions in the first post to upgrade to it.

Hi, Thanks for your help, the keyboard is working now!!!

But my sound card is not working, I had installed the kext file in my system. the sound icon had showed on the task bar. I can adjust the sound but not the actual sound out, any idea?

Actually after I install, it says under "About this mac" that I have 10.5.4. I just realized it is iAtkos 4i and not 2i. So I guess it is the problem with the Leo graphics update all over again. Time to try a new distro -_- . I'll try to get it to work wiht Atkos 2i or Kalyway.

I hit f8 to go to the boot console and type vanilla, hit enter and it jumps to the screen with the countdown again, then proceeds to go back to the boot console. Just hitting enter or using -v or just booting straight from the cd lands me with it hanging up after saying IOAPIC: Version 0x20 Vectors 0:23

this is my first attempt at installing osx, so help is appreciated!

Its a dell d630 with intel gfx, trying to install kalyway 10.5.2

Thanks!

edit: tried safe mode, and it's doing something...

didn't work =/

edit again..: tried 10.5.1,it gets to saying NTFS drivier 2.0 [Flags: R/0]. evnentuall the pinwheel appears (ontop of the terminal) then it turns to a mouse point er and then back to a pinwheel, and fro mthere appears to do nothing, I left it for a good 15 minutes with nothing happening..

any ideas?

edit edit edit edit: turned out the 10.5.1 disc my friend had was ToH, managed to install but it crashed while updating and that waqs the end of that... dl'ing kalyway 10.5.1 atm is the update to 10.5.4 safe?

I have installed iATKOS 10.5.4 and i followed the steps in the forum, everything worked fine and as described, but sometimes i have the following error in the attached image when i am booting, also when i shutdown the laptop it does not completely shutdown the power let, the external hard drive ( where i installed the mac os) are not turned off, and this happened only after i installed the vga driver

I got a Latitude 830 a couple of weeks ago, and since I've been working with OS X for the last couple of years I decided that I would like to have on an external USB HD Leopard installed for my personal use. Some specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo

2 GB RAM

Intel x3100

Sigmatel 9205

Intel WiFi 3495

BIOS A12

Well, after trying a lot of different ways to install, this is as far as I've got:

I've managed to boot 3 different versions with the same results: iAtkos v4i, Kalyway 10.5.1 and Leo4all.

First I installed Leo4all, troublefree deleting the AppleIntel* extensions. Tried to use the x3100 kexts from the first post. No luck (which means 2 sec. blue screen then screen shuts off)

Then I installed Kalyway, tried to update to 10.5.4 following instructions from the first post, and got a freeze with the power button symbol. No comming back from that.

iAtkos installed 10.5.4 from scratch, but couldn't get the x3100 to work either. After reading the thread I assumed that it was installing the Leo Graphics Update so I decided to try Kalyway 10.5.1 again.

Installed Kalyway 10.5.1 without problem, rebooted, installed the 10.5.4 combo update using "su" access rights, then had to reset password booting from the DVD again, installed the sleep fix after booting again into Leopard and everything was working fine till that point. Then installed the x3100 ktexts. No luck. Again.

So I'm stuck with 1024x768 with no acceleration. On the bright side, I used the Dell post Installer to install the Audio drivers for Sigmatel 9205 and it worked perfectly after rebooting twice. Funny thing is that most report that the mute button is not working, in my case decrease volume, increase volume and mute buttons are working fine.

So, back to the x3100, any ideas?

Thanks in advance...

Try reinstalling the sound kexts.

Has anyone had success with the built-in bluetooth on the D630? I've tried a few bios settings to no avail. Aside from a temperamental sleep, the bluetooth is the only thing I'm really missing!

If anyone has succeeded with this, let me know! Thanks.

Try kalyway 10.5.1. Upgrade to 10.5.4 w/ the instructions in the first post.

You can ignore that error, it happens to me once out of every 10-20 boots. Everyone has the shutdown problem. Just unplug any external devices before shutdown. Once the OS stops accessing the HD, it is safe to force your computer off (hold the power button). Just make sure that your hard drive doesn't make any bad sounds, and that the wi-fi light is off.

The kexts in the first post have worked for pretty much everyone, try reinstalling them.

This is odd, most people say that the bluetooth works out of the box. I don't have a bluetooth module, so I don't really know...

I just finished up my Dell D830.. has anyone gotten the ethernet to work on it yet?

\\Sphinx--

No. As of now, nobody is even remotely close to getting ethernet to work.

I got 10.5.1, installed it, seemed to be working (though no wireless for some reason?) I then went to install the update, and during the update it come up with the "You need to restart your computer" screen I knew that was gonna be bad, now I can't boot up at all though.

I'm gonna go for a reinstall and see if that helps, looks like I need to reformat the hfs+ partition though, cause it won't even boot off the cd, gets me the same error after loading for a while "You need to restart your computer" verbose shows a kernel panic.

edit: reformatted the parition with osx installed on it, just went to boot off of the cd using the argument vanilla, and its the same thing! "You need to restart your computer" any ideas =/ ?

I restored grub, and now its booting to live cd again.

I'm triple booting windows, ubuntu and osx though, so I would like to keep grub, can I uncheck the efi box and then configure grub for osx aswell?

Should I do vanilla with acpi fix or w/o?

Also: is the 10.5.4 update safe to do? /is it necessary?

I had the same problem. There is a post in this thread explaining how to use root access privileges to run the script and the 10.5.4 update. It worked for me, before I was getting always the "You need to restart...." screen.

Update on my install:

I tried reinstalling from scratch twice. IKalyway 10.5.1., update to 10.5.4. using root access, installed the sleep fix and then the x3100 kexts. Still no luck ;). I get the 2 seconds blue screen and then piuuuu, black screen.

Am I missing something? Maybe some BIOS setting or something else? Has someone actually got it to work on a D830?

Thanks for the replies... :)

Do you mean the command mentioned in the first post, because I was running that, but it obviously didn't work =/

Atm its installing without efi, I hope that works =/

Nop. Before you run the command in the first post you should log as root a.k.a. "super user". You can do this with following command: "sudo passwd root". It will ask for your account password and for a new password and verification for the root account. Then type "su" and the password you just set and voilá! You're now logged as root. But beware that after that you might have some trouble to install sleep fix kext. So after you do the update reboot and then install the sleepfix.

Another update:

I reinstalled the kexts again making sure I had the ones from the first post (which I did) and set hot corners to sleep. I rebooted and got the black screen again. After I moved the mouse I got the screen in the image below. The white dots in the center are some sort of disfigured mouse pointer since they move as I move the mouse.

Any ideas?

What BIOS version are you using? If its A13, that is your problem. You need to downgrade it to A12. What you describe is very odd behavior. Also, did you install the sleepdisplay script? If not, read the instructions in the first post.

Atm its installing without efi, I hope that works =/

Well, installing w/o efi failed completely... after I clicked install it sat on the same screne with the pinwheel for a good 40 mins

hdd was inactive so I shut it down...

I guess I'll try with efi again...

You need to do it with EFI. You'll have to reinstall grub again afterwards too.

Hmmmm ok. So its installed, and I just installed the update. However, I can't do anything as root because its telling me my password is wrong, so I'm not sure what to do, as I can;t reboot without fixing the Install at startup thing, but I need root to edit it..

any ideas? =/

Actually I am on BIOS A12. I did installed the sleept script. I installed already like 10 times following the first post word by word (except on the root access part which is not mentioned). I'm wondering if it is a D830 thing and if someone out there has actually gotten the x3100 to work on the D830 :P .

I need help, I've tried everything I know (which admittedly is not much with regard to OSX).

I have a Dell Inspiron D830 with Intel X3100, and display with 1680x1050 resolution. I have followed all steps in the guide with Kalyway 10.5.1, updated to 10.5.4 with the Apple Combo Update, and then installed the X3100 drivers and the sleep script. I always get a black screen after that. Twice or three times I have managed to get a response from the screen after leaving the laptop alone for a while, then touching the touchpad, but all I see is the mouse cursor in the upper left corner, immovable, and when I use the touchpad, a heavily distorted mouse pointer, made up of lines of changing colours, moves around the screen on a black background. Nothing more...

My laptop has 2GB of RAM, 120GB HD, a Core2Duo processor, Dell WiFi card, Bluetooth... it's a fairly standard D830, except maybe for the 1680x1050 display, which was an upgrade from the standard resolution. Could that be the cause of my problems with the X3100 drivers?

I'd be grateful for any ideas pointing to a solution.

Thanks in advance!
