You wrote that you have a GA-P35-DS3. Is that a DS3 L or R? My sleep and shutdown worked great on 10.5.2 for about a week, then started being inconsistent. It's no biggie, but if it could work correctly, it would be awesome. TIA.
I had the same experience...
On a P35-DS3 is it possible to run 2 sata harddrives and 1 sata dvdrw in AHCI mode?
I have a DS3R board and have this exact configuration and it works.

doesn't the ds3r have 8 sata ports on it? with 2 different sata modules? i think the problem with running ahci on other boards was that you could only use 2 sata ports cause there was only 2 ports on each module and osx hackintosh can only handle 1 sata module...

correct me if i'm wrong ;)

Second, and more importantly, I haven't had any luck using my video card with more than one monitor. Is this unusual, and does anyone know of a thread I can read or a trick I can try? I have it hooked up to my LCD via DVI. If I hook up another monitor using the VGA or composite/s-video out then and restart the graphics card 'defaults' to the VGA or Comp/S-Video output and gives me blank screen LCD hooked up via DVI... for the record, I haven't installed the latest graphic update (is there a way to download it on another comp. and install it from a flashdrive?).

ALSO... what can you update with system update? Can we use it for itunes updates? FCP? Logic?

I am typing this on 2 monitors right now. One DVI 1920x1200, one VGA 1600x1200. The second monitor should go 1920x1200 DVI (xfx 7300GT has 2 DVI out plugs, am using adapter) but I suspect my 2nd monitor DVI is defective. So what I can tell you is 1. it can work 2. if you have another computer or OS make sure the monitors and cables can do it on their own before suspecting osx86. I use GA-p35-ds3p 7300GT Q6600 and this was all done using the instructions in this thread. Though it has been suggested that we take our video problems to a video specific thread. BTW I used System Update extensively with no problems, since I use a vanilla kernel, but I am no expert. Also vmware, osxbmc, everything works. This machine is pure sex.

Do you think the display is out there somewhere, can you move the mouse into it?

You should try going to system preferences, displays, detect displays. That should put a control panel up on both monitors.

Overclocking These tools, or something equivalent, are useful

1. Temperature Monitor

2. CPUTest

3. Activity Monitor (in your Applications / Utilities already)

I can only get my Q6600 up to 3.0Ghz. CPU cores are 51 - 55 C under load. CPU at 1.4V. CPUTest Stable. Arctic Cooling Pro 7 with Coolaboratory gallium amalgam "paste".

Don't forget the ctl-alt-F1 trick on Gigabyte motherboards to get more tweaking options. Thought they didn't help me much. Also you can't stray far from the other BIOS settings in the OP.

Make sure the line in boot.ini says
C:\chain0="Mac OS X86"

. There are other good tips on this wiki page

. Also, it's normal that you cannot see your Mac drive in Windows. Your Mac drive should be an HFS+ partition. Windows cannot normally read those (without 3rd party software). If you want to share info between Windows and OSX, it's best to create a shared data partition that is FAT32. OSX can read and write NTFS with 3rd party tools like MacFuse and NTFS-3g.

Hey dci693,

I tried what you suggested. Still didn't work. I did notice that in my Bios under RAID mode my two Seagate Drives are shown as one which is fine but it also shows my WD also as a Raid drive? which is strange. Then under boot decives I can only see my RAid Seagate drives as one and my SATA DVD drive but not my other WD drive. I think this is the problem. And thats why I cannot boot? Any thoughts?

Thanks again.

I don't have any RAID going on in my system, so I can't help. Sorry.

First off i must say thanks for all the help on getting my setup up and running almost perfect!!..

My next question is has anyone had sucsess with getting 5.1 sound working yet on the DS3L board?

I can only get 2.1 sound and i would really love to get 5.1 on this setup, My only second option was to get some sort of usb sound stick device that will put out 5.1

5.1 sound does not work for most motherboards. Buy something like the creative 24 bit live external usb. Natively, all ports work... for 5.1 you would plug front left in one channel, back lr in another.. and as for center and sub.. i think they go into 1 channel together (or however u have it set up.) then from there you go into applications/utilities/Audio midi setup.

From there you can create a new output.. which you can assign which output u want to be front left/right, back, center, etc...

I dont know if the mic in on the ds3l works.. i only know that for the p5w dh.. digital works... and "line out, internal speaker, headphone(i believe) and mic in.

philter, only for the DS3L board. As far as i know.. ich9 chipsets still have the AHCI problem (idk if there is a fix yet) the ds3l just happens to have 4 sata ports, only 2 of which work. Other boards have say, 4 of the 6 working.

Here you can find the newest AppleIntelPIIXATA kext driver for Intel ICHx chipsets.(ICH0 to 8 and 9)

All your sata ports should now work correctly. No more need of the old AppleVIAATA kext.

This has been tested and is know to work on the Asus P5K, P5K-E and Asus P5K Premium.

It should work with all mobos ICH based : 965 DS3, P5B, P5K-SE, P5K-VM, P5K pro etc etc.

Drive(s) are UDMA enabled, and fully working without i/o errors.

I am a little confused.

Just wanted to pass along my heartfelt thanks to mtotho for this awesome guide. I finally worked up the courage to put together a hack using the Asus board and this guide. I'm a total idiot, but everything just worked out perfectly with no problems at all. I have to admit, I was amazed. It was actually easier than installing XP on a homebrew box.

In case anyone is interested for future referece, my build as follows. Asus P5W DH Deluxe, Q6600, 4GB DDR2-800, eVGA 8600GT 512MB, WD 320GB. Kalyway 10.5.1, Kalyway 10.5.2 combo update, Apple graphic update, scottdangel v.33 to get the graphics working properly.

Again, thanks and all the best...

Does that temperature monitor give accurate results for anyone? It says both my cores are at 49C. That frightened me a bit. I went into my BIOS and it says, 34-35C per core. I then booted into Windows and ran Speedfan, which also listed both cores at about 34-35C. I have the GA-P35-DS3L board. Can anyone else with this board have readings that match their BIOS? Or am I doing something wrong?

Nothing wrong it is accurate for revision G chips with a revision B you get a 15C error due to the lower rating of its core 85C vs 100C for the G which is the rating of the chips in a real Mac machine.

I am a little confused.

quote from dune:

"THis kext fixes the bug with AppleIntelPIIXATA. AppleINtelPIIXATA handle sata in IDE mode and not intended for AHCI.

AHCI is handled by AppleAHCIPort.kext. I would like to brings you 4 ports in AHCI with your ICH9 , but problems is that this driver is not "Open source" so..."

I am aware of that thread that has that fix. I am not entirely sure it will do anything for AHCI, i am pretty sure it wont, like anibalin said. Be my guest. Test it out, i am sure it fixes other problems.. like possible if some Pata ports dont work.. but i dont think AHCI will be fixed.
