You cannot use bootcamp on hackintosh: There is no need to

I believe some motherboards have the option to customize the boot screen.. but idk how.

You could use a third party bootloader like grub, and i believe you can skin it to whatever you want (like mac)

There isn't :P
There is indeed an Input section in the System Preferences under Sound. There's Sound Effects, then Output, then Input. In the Input screen it says "Choose a device for sound input". I can choose between Internal microphone, Line In, or Digital In. Try using the first choice. If you dont' see the Output section, then perhaps you didn't patch using the kexts properly.
Dragan.. you can easy do a dual boot with raid drives. The raid drives must be the drives getting booted off of. Use vista bootloader or xp loader on the vista drives to dual boot between.

Hey mtotho,

I feel I'm so close to victory with your help! I used the XP boot loader. Here are my steps. Insert the Mac OS X86 DVD and Copy chain0 to the root of the C: drive. Double clicked on boot.ini so it opens in notepad then on the last line of boot.ini, add C:\chain0="OSx86. Bounced the box and now I have both boot options. I choose OS X and eventually I got the grey box like a boot error? Do I need to choose a different chain? How do I find out which one it is in OS X? Also another thing in Windows I cannot see my OS X drive at all in Explorer or via my computer. However in Disk management I can see that its there but there are no drive letters assigned to them. Any thoughts on how I would be able to access both windows and OS X Drivers or is this not possible? In the BIOS I have it set to RAID

Thanks again for all your help.

I have been trying to do an install on a ep35c-ds3r since last night using Kalyway and I get all the way through the install but every time it tries to start I get to the login window and it hangs. Has anyone else ever seen this before, I booted with verbose and I just says /xxx/xxx/loginwindow[pid] and thats the last thing I see. During normal startup the wheel just stops moving. I have tried vanilla / non-vanilla kernel makes no difference. drive is formatted as guid and guid_efi set. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the line in boot.ini says
C:\chain0="Mac OS X86"

. There are other good tips on this wiki page

. Also, it's normal that you cannot see your Mac drive in Windows. Your Mac drive should be an HFS+ partition. Windows cannot normally read those (without 3rd party software). If you want to share info between Windows and OSX, it's best to create a shared data partition that is FAT32. OSX can read and write NTFS with 3rd party tools like MacFuse and NTFS-3g.

Worked for me:

kalyway 10.5.1, Kalyway 10.5.2 combo update (had some issues with ps2 and usb with the standard official update),

kalyway 10.5.2 kernel update package, Leopard graphic update, Netkas new Natit and white menus fix.

now testing (but were is xbench???)

Thanks to netkas for ATI HD support, cobraf for the AHCI in preinstalled systems

and, of course to mtotho for this perfect guide.

Oh, how do I get bootcamp assistant to work? It keeps telling me
You must update your computer's Boot ROM firmware before using this setup assistant

.

You can't use the bootcamp assistant because there's no need to. Bootcamp is basically a simplified version of disk utilities which will resize the Mac partition on a real mac to allow you to install Windows natively on the hardware, essentially a dual boot. Bootcamp must have a strict set of rules to work, and is impossible to get to work on a hackintosh. If you want to dual boot with Windows, there's plenty of guides on these boards.

On a P35-DS3 is it possible to run 2 sata harddrives and 1 sata dvdrw in AHCI mode?
That's what I'm running. I have my boot hard drive and storage drive with a DVDRW in AHCI mode. Although I'm thinking of going back to IDE mode because while I get faster boot time, performance almost seems slower under AHCI.

vmware fusion working great so far for me. got morphxt running under xp pro under vmware fusion on the hackintosh setup in this thread. osxbmc is interesting, and basically works, but some of my music crashes it.

Is the new shutdown kernel a vanilla kernel? I guess not. Wonder if there's much downside.

It is not a vanilla kernel, I've not seen any downsides yet, everything works exactly as it did before... getting the same xbench scores etc.

Only downside I can think of is when 10.5.3 comes out, It'll overwrite this kernel and I'll have to replace it again.

You wrote that you have a GA-P35-DS3. Is that a DS3 L or R? My sleep and shutdown worked great on 10.5.2 for about a week, then started being inconsistent. It's no biggie, but if it could work correctly, it would be awesome. TIA.

Hi!

Today I found this great topic. Thx for it, I think this is a good work. I have a solution for not working lan.

Maybe you should put it on the 1st page. The problem is that the mac can't power up the lan card, if it's not.

So lan boot rom enabling will solve the problem or smart lan entering, if somebody uses XP, than enable the wake on lan for the card.

Ok, I need help.

Can ANYONE find me a guide to dual boot windows XP with macos with MACOS already installed on a GUID partition? (And I don't have to re-install)

I am NOT good at searchig and have failed so far.

Also, it would be awesome if there was a way to convert guid to mbr.

I have revision 2.1 of the GA-P35-DS3, there is no last letter (L,R,P etc). It has 6 sata ports & raid where as the DS3L does not. See here for a comparison of boards.

Note the Shutdown kernel fixed restart & shutdown for me, but not sleep.

First of all, a massive thanks to mtotho for this guide and props to everyone else.

Here's my system specs:

  1. Intel 2.33GHz C2D (E6550... ?)

  2. Gigabyte P35-DS3L board

  3. Gigabyte GeForce 7200 GS (512Mb)

  4. 2x 1Gb 800MHz RAM

  5. 120Gb Samsung IDE hard drive (pulled from surplus. My SATA drive was broken when I reinstalled. A nasty surprise. Therefore, no AHCI)

  6. Fire wire PCI card - works

  7. Wireless PCI card - works
(it sees nearby networks but I haven't connected. I assume if it sees networks then it works)

  8. LiteOn SATA DVD drive

  9. Kaly 10.5.1 and Devin's update sequence to 10.5.2

  10. GUID EFI

The goal was/is to use this for Logic. It was buy a new mac and skimp on audio software, buy a PC and regret it, or build a Hackintosh and spend savings on Logic.

Got install working on the first try. Followed the instructions... all but the video drivers. I checked one of the Kaly options (don't remember which one).

Went back and tried Punk92 then the latest NVinject release. Two ?'s arise here.

First, I applied these over one-another rather than starting from a fresh instal. Is that a no-no? It worked, I'm just curious if these would overlap in some way (noob here).

Second, and more importantly, I haven't had any luck using my video card with more than one monitor. Is this unusual, and does anyone know of a thread I can read or a trick I can try? I have it hooked up to my LCD via DVI. If I hook up another monitor using the VGA or composite/s-video out then and restart the graphics card 'defaults' to the VGA or Comp/S-Video output and gives me blank screen LCD hooked up via DVI... for the record, I haven't installed the latest graphic update (is there a way to download it on another comp. and install it from a flashdrive?).

This is really frustrating because I really counted on having two screens. Any ideas to fix this or a workaround?

For some reason when trying to trouble shoot this issue on my first install, the install went bad. using "-v" at startup (I think... from my memory) it kept repeating that there was some issue with the firewire PCI card.

I just scrapped it and reinstalled. I used the best and latest settings installers et cetera listed in this guide. But still no dual-monitor capabilities. also, shutdown/resart problems are present but they seem to lessening with time (don't know if that's possible or if I'm just getting into a routine for shutdown).

That said, minus any help for my video problems, great guide! though I was hoping for a bit of a challenge. I would never have though that one week after getting all my parts in and the old computers cannibalized, my biggest complaints would be a single monitor mac with sleep/shutdown/restart issues. :censored2:

BIG up Mtotho!

BTW - I plan on replacing the IDE HD with a new SATA and reinstalling soon so any tips on vid card, again, would be very much appreciated.

ALSO... what can you update with system update? Can we use it for itunes updates? FCP? Logic?

Hey, is there a way for me to convert my GUID partition to MBR so I can install windows?
Don´t think so. And WIDOWS shoul be installed always before osx.

Tried reboot fix. Shutdown works fine now.

Then I tried sleep mode. Mobo shut completely down.

No way of rebooting it.

No Bios, just beep - beep - beep and fans starting and stopping.

10 minutes of nightmare.

Then I unplugged it from power and 5 minutes after the machine restarted normally.

(Be careful, can cost you a motherboard)

Some thoughts?

so.. i had it all working with kalyway 10.5.1 and dual booting with xp

i decided to update with kalyway 10.5.2 combo update... at first i thought it wouldn't boot so i did a -v on bootup it gives me this ntfs error...

NTFS-fs error (device /dev/disk0s2): ntfs_pagein(): Failed (cluster_pagein)ext(). error 5)

NTFS-fs error (device /dev/disk0s2): ntfs_page_map(): Failed Failed to read page (error 5)

if i leave it alone for a few minutes.. it'll eventually bootup...

anybody know whats wrong with it? would it have anything to do with Paragon NTFS installed?

Specs are
