devilhood
Cool, devilhood. I hope Taruga come with a better HDA kext for the 9228 Cheers. Can you let me know, or anyone else for that matter, what kext's did you replace after the 10.5.3 update to allow boot? I tried it earlier and it kept freezing after the detection of my HD regardless if I was in AHCI or IDE mode. Fixed: was just because the dsmos.kext didn't initialize properly the first time round. Smasher101
To All: I have been able to get the X3100 to work with all the resolutions, and am able to use it. But I need to play around with getting the notebook started. If I let the computer boot into Leopard(iAtkos 2.0 BS). I need to press FN-F8 at the "press any key for startup options" then I need to wait until the screen will flip back into view on my LCD, then it will go into Leopard and work just fine. But what I am looking for, it the ability to boot directly into Leopard with out having to switch to an external monitor or have an external monitor connected during boot. If I don't do this, it will go to a scrambled screen, and it will not display the desktop. Anyone out there know what might fix this issue? Xion100
I bought a Dell M1530 and wanted to attempt installing Leopard...the problem is i'm used to make partitions on my disks simply using vista's disk manager. The problem is if i make, for example, a 40gb reduction to the OS Hard Disk, he sees it as a Non formatted 40gb space. When i initialize it, to actually make a partition, he says he can't complete the operation because there is not enough disk space...how is this possible? How can i make a simple partition? moebiwan
Upon reading this thread, I'm still unclear about the shutdown/restart issue with Nvidia drivers. Does that mean if I have a Dell Vostro 1400 or a XPS 1330 with a Nvidia 8400GS and I use the NVInject drivers from a Kalyway 10.5.2 Install DVD, that my dell won't be able to shutdown or restart from OSX? What about if I were to use the Natit drivers instead, or is this problem with all Dell laptops that run a Nvida card? Thanks for the input, I'm looking to buy a Vostro 1400 since they are on the cheap right now but would really prefer to have dedicated graphics instead of using the X3100. macgirl
Ah, I tried Kalyway's update I'll try the official combo instead and write out a little script to replace sound and rm applecpu etc before restart. The kalyway is fine, the thing is that on first boot after the update you need to boot with "update -v", or any other 9.2 kernel (update in reality is a 9.2 kernel, a handy way of Laly to make the first boot smoothh), since on first boot the system will replaces some files (you can see which ones on /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1) on that script is another reboot, so on second reboot you can use a 9.3 kernel. EDIT: I just see that 10.5.4 update was released, front page news: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=113299 Upon reading this thread, I'm still unclear about the shutdown/restart issue with Nvidia drivers. The problem is not with Natit or NVinject (or other for that matter) sin they are not Drivers just Enablers that make the real drivers to recognize the card, even with GFX string you get issues on restart/shutdown, they did almost all the shudown process, if you boot in verbose mode you can even see the CPU halted before balck screen, so they work to a point just befor the real hardware shutdown. So....? Didn't work for me, the kext is loaded but the battery status in not shown also, no option to show on Energy Saver pane. It is! I've followed the exact same method on my normal usual pc in which i've installed Vista Ultimate and, yesterday, Leopard with no problems whatsoever. Using the SAME METHOD on this new Dell XPS M1530 with Home Premium Vista pre-installed i get the "There is not enough disk space" error...What can i do? You can repoartition with an alternate method, a free one is Gparte Live CD, you can decrease the size of the Vista partition and create a new fat32, it support som HFS+ partition task, but not create. 7oby
No, it do not fix the shutdown/restart issue. However it did something for the X3100 users. In 10.5.3 my shutdown was broken. Now in 10.5.4 shudown works again. I just tested: . restart : works (also worked in 10.5.3 for X3100 users) . shutdwon : works (was broken in 10.5.3; at least on my M1330) . sleep : works (incl. sound afterwards) If I click "About this Mac" it tells me 2.01 GHz. It should be 2.20 GHz since I have a T7500. In System Profiler CPU is recognized as T7500, but again says 2.01 GHz. Don't know, whether the reported frequency is correct - neither do I know whether 10.5.3 displayed a different value. Also "About this Mac" I had a continuous bong-bong-bong-bong-bong sound. It doesn't stop until I close the window. Also: Don't remeber about 10.5.3 If I have too much time, I might consider putting back a 10.5.3 image of the mac partition and compare. Hmmm...so that basically means if I get a Vostro/Dell I can't get the 8600GS to work, so I should stick with the X3100 since that one has no issues? The X3100 has other issues:. it's very likely that you'll end up never being able to use HDMI. Only VGA and internal LDVS display is currently supported.. sleep trick: You have to put display to sleep to get it running after restart. -- There's some progress regarding sound: Prepatched STAC9228_0x83847616.zip currently only works reliable after sleep. It seems the module needs to be "reloaded" after system startup. This http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...05077&st=0) helped some people.
