How do i get kalyway to not crash when 4 cores are enabled?

when i boot with no flags meaning when i boot with 4 cores enabled leopard crashes while booting and after some time loging in.

is there a way for leopard to use all 4 cores without crashing? no kernel panics?

i have same problem... i need to startup setup with cpus=1 otherwise it will not boot up...

When it's installed it will not start anymore... it stops with error message : " Using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers"

Any one knows solution please ?

best regards

Mickey

Kilopopo,

I have same issue with a Core 2 Duo and a P5NSLI board, it has something to do with the newer kernel, (9.0 +). Jas 10.4.8 runs great right out of the box with same bios settings. I read the nVidia chipset are notorious for this problem with the cpu management with newer kernel. I'd like to figure it out also. :D

Enable Executive Bit (force XD flag to 0) in your bios than 4 cores are working. I've got the same problem when this is disabled with my q6600.

Hi! I have the same problem...

When i start up osx without any switches it just show (after apple screen) only blue screen and i can only move the mouse...

If i install vanilla kernel it just restarts after installation...

What i need to do to enable all cores without hang up?

Thanks

Oko

check my topic for nforce mobos, i have kernels for nforce.... thanx to Kabyl and ChaOSX86 channel...

cpus=1 is require on all 10.4.9+ up to today, bcoz apple is using new scheduler in kernel that is responsible from the kernel panics!!!

so u need a kernel with old scheduler built in :) check my topic...

never forget

chown -R 0:0 mach_kernel

chmod -R 644 mach_kernel

yeah 644 for kernels 755 for kexts... 0:0 is for root:wheel easy ;) trust me it is same as root:wheel 0:0 (zero:zero)

cheers...

None of the BIOS settings make a difference for me. I need cpus=1 no matter what I change in the BIOS. This is an Intel G33 Express/ICH9 chipset MB. No IDE, all SATA-2.

Installing SSE2 system and using cpus=1 is the only way I can get a working system. Everything works fine - LAN, audio, all 10 USB ports, full QE/CI video on Radeon HD 2600 Pro and all software I've installed runs fine. Just 1 cpu is working!

there are some patches around for ich9 chipsets i remember, have tried looking for one? it may be the issue... coz i have the same issue with nforce chipset, generally nforce chipset has this problem, if not all...

so yours may need something? like no hpet or no execute bit or stg like taht maybe?

The Kalyway install has the ICH9 chipset driver built in. Just need a SATA DVD drive or other means to install it (USB drive, etc).

I am having the same problem with the Q6600, but I use a G33 chipset. I have tried countless combinations of BIOS settings kernels and extensions but it still panics on me. Has anyone found a solution that works for enabling all 4 cores? I'm trying out that nforce kernel now, but i still get panics.

Have any more hardware information? I run a Q6600 fine with all cores enabled. Definitely disable speedstep though as mentioned above.

How do you get Kalyway (Leopard) to boot up with out haveing to have the disc in there everytime I want to boot up my system. Its not that much of a problem its just an inconvenience. Its running incredibly smooth just don't have no support for my USB wireless card and my onboard audio is not working as well. But those arent a problem because I use the Mbox and audio is fine but I need a Wireless card that is compatible. But that one issue with booting with the disc in the drive if I can get it to boot without it that would be super.

All 4 of my cores work on my install I am running Quad core Q6600, Gigabit Ds3l, 2GB DDR2 5300, 100 GB WD HD. When I run Protools and I go to setup it shows that it is running off all 4 cores.
