Kalyway 10.5.1 is currently the best Leopard distro I have tried.

It installs fast and includes all drivers needed for my DS3 mobo.

But for some reason, the the system looks rather ugly due to many pre-installed modifications and 3rd party applications.

I wrote a patch, that reverts the system to its default retail look and removes all third-party applications from the system.

Installation instructions:

1. Download the virginizer.zip file (69MB)

2. Unpack it to file system root (where Applications, Users, Library and System folders are), so everything is stored in /virginizer/

3. Double click patch.command

4. Reboot

After reboot you have to set orange backgrounds to white and change wallpaper manually, until I find where this settings are.

As a finishing touch command-drag two question marks to remove 'em from the finder window.

Virginizer won't work if ran not from /virginizer/ directory.

Make sure you backup your com.apple.Boot.plist file if you've made any modifications.

I suggest patching the untouched Kalyway 10.5.1 right after installation.

Repair permissions with diskutil after patching, seems like I messed up a little, but nothing critical, don't worry.

Please post results either if it worked for you or you had any problems :) Thanx.

P.S. Do you need a new patch for 10.5.2 or noone uses this any more?

Laik, THANK YOU!!! :D :D :D This program worked like a charm! Now Kalyway has the proper background, proper dock, proper icons and no bulky programs {censored}! You are THE MAN (Or woman!) Laik! :D :D :D

To anyone looking to get Kalyway Leopard 10.5.1 looking like retail and not so goddamned ugly, THIS IS THE PATCH YOU WANT! Cheers!

Foodie Monster, thanx for the reply ;)

I'm really happy it works for someone except me.

do you mind detailing what this script does? i've manually uninstalled apps i don't need or haven't registered [poor pacifist dudes :) ] and switched the orange background to white.

I think the only thing left is the icons and the dock

Thanks.

justvisiting, you can open virginizer.command file in textedit or nano and see for yourself, its pretty straight forward.

It replaces /System/Library/CoreServices with originals from 1.5.1 (that's where all the ugliness is), sets correct permissions, then removes preinstalled 3rd party applications. If it doesn't find third party applications it will just do nothing at this step.

It will work for you too.

"any idea where the default finder color setting will be stored ?" — if anyone tells me this, and where is the desktop wallpaper cache located, I`ll update the patch.

Also its interesting where is default finder panel settings are stored, so that the patch can automatically remove two question marks from it.

justvisiting, I`ll add this to first post. I guess the patch worked for you )

yup, it worked. i didn't know that 'patch.command' was a script file, you learn something every day.

I backed up that file and put "echo" before all the apps that i didn't want touched.

not sure about your 'repair permissions' as doing a 'sudo diskutil repairPermissions /' did a lot of repair work afterwords. maybe you can use that command instead, unless others have better ideas.

thanks for your work.

the virginizer did not virinize my installation of kalyway ?! what did i wrong?!

i have copied the folder to the root folder as in descriptions is explained... started the "patch.command" entered the root password... restarted... but background in finder is still orange... ?!

edit:

ok as i read the first post clearly i found that the orange background has to be changed manually...

on what can i see that the virginizer worked ?!

The ugly ass icons that Kalyway installed will be gone in favor of the original Apple ones, you'll be able to find the original "Aurora" wallpaper on the "Apple Images" section of the Desktop preference pane, the 3rd party {censored} that came pre-installed will be gone, etc.

As you correctly point out, you'll have to get rid of the Orange background yourself, as well as CMD+Drag those icons from the Finder window that one of those apps that came bundled installed on it.

Mods, sticky this thread, it is made of awesome.

FutureShock, it changes icons, dock, and "about this mac" window to defaults. It also removes a bunch of pre-installed third party apps.

I'm looking for some info on OSX structure to make rev2 of the patch, that would change everything including backgrounds.

Kalyway 10.5.1 is indeed the best Leopard packaging I've seen, but it still acts weird and beta-like.

Sometimes "pieces" of the cursor or the marble of death get stuck in the middle of the screen and go away after you slide a window or menu over them. Some times a black square gets stuck right about the Apple menu and goes away after you click over it.

I'm trying Virginizer hoping that it will fix these issues (I'm guessing they're related to Core Image), if not.. we can only hope for a next packaging that will fix those glitches and run as smoothly as JaS's Tiger :ninja:

Sorry, I'll be more specific:

I have a GMA950 on an Intel D945GCNL mobo.

The glitches I was talking about are likely to happen practically every time I use Get Info on Finder, the Info Windows goes to the top left of the screen and as the cursor hovers over it, something strange happens. If I pass over "Spotlight Comments" a 'ghost cursor' get stuck in the screen and sometimes a black square appears on top of the Apple logo menu, to disappear right after I click it.

I was guessing that GC Leopard didn't pack those bugs and has full compatibility with my video card... do you have any ideas?

Thanks for the answer.

thankz for this patch but..

why somebody would like to remove vlc or transmission or the other 5,6 handy apps that come with kalyway?

you would use another player for videos? another client for torrents? another client for irc? etc etc

couldn't somebody right click and "change backround" or right click and set the orange at the folders to white?

for the dock onyx does a gr8 job and it also change the genie effect to a better one (like genie but smoother)

anyway patches are allways welcome , i just say my opinion :D

spanakorizo, its because people usually like to customize themselves and don't like pre-modded. I use VNC 0.9.0 svn, for example and see no reason for older version to be in the OSX distro.

Its like you ordered a canvas for your new masterpiece and had it shipped with someone's painting on it. You still can paint over, but it's not the same. :D
