Ok, I have been using iAtkos now, and I have to say it works well for me so far. Everything works: video (QE/CI works), network, wireless, audio, firewire, and USB. I have posted a list as a topic of all the software I have done some testing on, and so far, all of my programs work. I did have an issue with Digital Performer 5 because that uses PPC code. The 5.1 update fixes that.

Uphuck and Eskurza seem to have a thing for MBR, but I have Netkas PC EFI v8 on GUID using vanilla kernel and it works great. Seems very stable and runs very smooth. I see that some are having problems (iAtkos and Kalyway, but I wonder how much of that is people not using the right processors, and how much of that is just getting the kext files tweaked.

Geeze

Not sure because I haven't tried Kalyway but getting it now. Lots of people are having issues with Uphuck -.- Damnit.

Don't make your decision about either of these releases too quickly. If you have osx86 compatible hardware, they will both do the job for you. Where a lot of the complaints come in is from those who think that a new installer release is going to miraculously cure non compatible hardware problems. New releases have never done that...they just make it more convenient to install, having most of the necessary kexts available to choose from on the same disk. They don't invent new kexts.

I would have had install issues with uphuck too if I hadn't read ahead of time that the bootloader is included in the utilities menu and is a necessary step to make this release work properly with efi. I'm not ready to endorse either of these yet, but I will say the uphuck is the fastest install that I've worked with so far (other than installing from an image on a second hd).

Kalyway FTW, you can install guid, makes hd bootable comes with lots of apps, perfect install for me + they dont screw around with the "about this mac".

I've heard Kalyway tends to screw around with everything else though. Is there a post detailing what changes they make to their distributions as far as default apps and settings? I was hearing about changing colors and I know they install all kinds of apps I don't care about.

The "About this Mac" change on the iATKOS release is minor but still annoying.

the kalyway install was so smooth that i don't even want to try the iatkos dvd but, i probably will though.

i don't like the colors and folders with kalyway but, that is very minor and you can change the colors no problem...if i can get sleep working with iatkos then i'll switch no prob...!!!

I thought the Kalyway install added "hak.int.t0sh" to the about this Mac, or maybe it was the system profiler. I didn't care for the orange either, but that really is nitpicking on my part. It does make you wonder what else was, ehmm, changed?

I think it's the EFI bootloader that adds that, not Kalyway. I have it on my Brazilmac/EFI DIY Hackintosh.

I can't believe how many people are bitching about this. I mean, in my opinion, not only was this tastefully done but it is a total non-issue.

There are no orange icons on the iATKOS EFI install.

I chose or? Both are pretty poor attempts at a DVD with PC_EFI support. Kalyway has WAY to much garbage in it, and Uphuck was poorly implemented. I will keep my shell scripts and files on a USB key and just do a vanilla install using a boot-loader and kernel patched leopard dvd thank you vary much.

I think the perfect install DVD is something that just sets up a generic Leopard install with Darwin boot loader and EFI v8 (including DSMOS.kext). Ya know, the tedious stuff thats easily automated for a wide segment of the community. Need the time machine fix? thats optional. Need drivers? odds are then you can install them in your sleep or are unsure of which one to install. Need the modified kext for fixing this or that crash? Search is your friend.

If you are doing this and if you don't know how to load files onto a USB key drive, double click on installers, and and follow instructions; you don't have any business running a hackintosh. Your better off spending your time looking up your hardware, practicing your search skills, and reading threads about your hardware and common problems until you are ready.

I am not trying to be mean, its just these DVDs are advertised as some kind of a silver bullet when they just give false hope to some, and make it harder on moderately skilled people.

I chose Kalyway with all the stuff on it. I never tried installing it yet but the PC_EFI thing is very convinient! But then then also lots of trash on Kalyway's Disc. Iatkos is a nogo on my box. I hope 1.0u would work better.

For now, its BrazilMac all the way!! It requires al little more work but it run perfectly after. :D

Kaly way is suppose to support SSE2 as well but I dont think it works with IDE hard drive and ACHI. It will not find my hard drive, it only shows my DVD drive with the kay disk in it, in the disk utility.

You saved me a bunch of trouble with this post. XXX release of Tiger was the only one who saw my ACHI (no fancy bios options to cure the problem on my gateway laptop). I'll wait with hopes that this team releases a Leo installer.
