Many Thanks to Kaliway and Dune, your work is way over my head.

Dell XPS 400

WDCaviar SE16 250GB SATA HDD 7200RPM

ATI Radeon x300SE PCIe

*The only motherboard info I have is that it is the same one the computer came with*

3.5GB DDR2 RAM

Intel Pentium D 820 800MHz Front Side Bus 2.8GHz

Yeah, this really didn't work. However, it could be because of the way I did it. Because my drive is 300GB, it would take FOREVER to zero out. So I partitioned it to 10GB and 290GB. I zeroed out the first drive, and THEN repartitioned the drive AGAIN as a 10GB drive and 290GB drive using MBR as my EFI choice so it would "install" EFI.Question: when I use the "erase" tab in disk utility, does it install EFI like the partition tab does?I would also like to point out that the damn cursor appears exactly the same way if I boot the drive OS X is installed on in VMware.Just for the record, leopard IS installed on the drive. I just can't get it to boot!
About the post 469, if you read carrefully what i wrote : no need to wait to the end. just erase the first sector and then stopt it ! Just cancel after 1 mn of erasing! After that go to the partition tab. make your partition(s) , , choose the thable partition you want by clicking the button option on the bottom(guid or mbr, do not choose Apple partiton !) , after that apply, quit diskutility and continue the installation.

i think your dvd is defective. when you burn it , always let the verification.
Thanks again. Do you have the Asus P5K-E or the premium or deluxe?

I use the Asus P5K Deluxe.

Did a test install yesterday, and everythin worked fine (did 'nt try Wifi yet).

I 've been reading here also, that SATA HDD should be set as AHCI in BIOS.

But then i get really slow POST boot-up.

So my HDD are set IDE enhanced.

is this better, of should a get improvement, when they are set as AHCI, if yes.

What is then the right setting.

having 3 SATA HDD and 1 SATA DVD writer.

OOOOPS! I was so excited I posted this earlier in the wrong place! I've edited it now to reflect what I need now - some advice!

;) Thank you Kaly and the team - after a day or two of reading and following this thread I have installed Kalyway 10.5.1 on my PC

MoBo - GA-P35-DS4

CPU - Quad Core Q6600 2.4Ghz (OC 3.0Ghz) with Arctic Cooler

Memory - 4GB Corsair XMS2 Twin Matched Pairs 800mhz

GFX - Sapphire ATi X1600 Pro PCi-e 256mb

HDD's - 4 x WD 230GB SATA II

Freecom External USB2/Firewire Lightscribe DVD Burner

Kalyway 10.5.1 with Vanilla Kernel

I had a few issues when installing and one which gave me a lot of grief was a system reboot just when the install package loaded the GUI - however I suspected that that it was a Power issue as I could hear the HDD's slowing and going to sleep. So I disconnected all but one HDD and disconnected a Lite/On DVD Burner which was connected to the IDE interface and also a removable HDD Caddy. With these removed and the power load lightened the GUI loaded OK and the install worked.

EDITED - I have tried the Diabolik NatitX1600.r1v3.Installer but I can't get it to work for my GFX card - has anyone got this card working correctly - Sapphire ATi X1600 Pro PCi-e 256mb. If so advice gratefully accepted if not advice on which card to buy that will definitely work correctly.

I just did an update using Apple Update - perfect - and machine seems FAST!!! :-)

You're the man Kaly!!! Thank You!!!

Ok, i have made a video of my trials trying to get this DVD to work.

I have followed every instruction, and still the damn cursor persists. If someone could suggest a solution, I would really appreciate it. I mean, I'm not new to this whole osx86 thing either- I just can't get it to work.

Thanks for the help.

And yeah, I talk funny in real life too. Not just in videos.

care to share how you did this?

Ta

sure I will...

let me know what's of interest for you... I did quite a lot to get this running mostly due to some problems shoulded to my personal configration which might not be of interest for you...

Please specify where exactly I can help & I'll give my best.

To be honest, there are still questions open for me as for shutdown (not running on Gigabyte P35 even after applying apple's security update; this did run on ToH 10.5), now sleepmode on this board too and I've not yet established real multiboot which was easy w ToH & BCDeasy. This one might be due to a HFS+ partition for data on the primary boot drive (Windows) and I think BCDeasy is trying to boot from this one even if it is not marked active nor booatable instead of the second drive. For the moment I choose my system with F12 and boot from either harddisk. As for the Thinkpad I'm only able to run in standard-gfx - I forgot which drivers I chose with ToH; shutdown is functional here wo any problems btw.

Srry but something I wanne know, bit a noob...

I'm gonna try my 100rd install leopard or something like that.

Just to know what i have to do.

- I hava vaio with 2 partitions, 1 with vista and 1 recovery

now i gonna create split the vista partition for mac.

When i Create the partiton for mac, which i have to choose:

-ACTIVE, PRIMARY or LOGICAL?

When i install leopard, which i have to choose:

- MBR or GUID?

I have an SSE3 processor in laptop, so i don't check SSE2, and i check the two checkboxes 'vanilla'?

Just these things to know for sure.

Plz help me out.

Tanx a lot!

Junior

You should select primary but this might mean - depending on you utility - you'll lose your rec partition and perhaps your only genuine windows... this is risky. You'd be better with an extern usb-device o try out.

The active part will be set by kalyway while install process.

But you'll might run into trouble regaining access to vista also (there are solutions but as you're calling yourself a noob I just warned you :) )

Of course you'll need MBR as this is what any windows needs. GUID on the same HD is a no-go.

You might try vanilla (both checked) if your vaio is able to run the vanilla kext which should work.

In this case don't forget to check the appropriate setting below (EFI? don't remember) also MBR.

good luck...

Oh i know what you mean with that sentence.. but don't know what you EFI is.. :$

Then my only question is.. How can i know that my vaio supports that 'Vanilla'?

Gtz and many thanxx

Hi,

Tanx for your fast reaction!

I have a acronis Os selector when i boot, so if Kalyway set it active, this is not a problem i think?

This, i dont realy know what you mean,

< "In this case don't forget to check the appropriate setting below (EFI? don't remember) also MBR." >

What is that EFI? because my desktop cant boot into the installation program en gives an error on EFI.

and what i have to do with it?

Tanx you man! Apreciate you!

In addition to what quarter said, even splitting the 1st partition into 2 (using Partition Magic or some other partition utility) MAY affect your RESTORE partition adversely. ALWAYS be prepared to possibly lose ANY existing data on a HD when playing around with this kind of stuff (other OS'es in general).

Even on my own desktop PC, the first few times I installed OSx86, I disconnected all my other HDs except the one I was going to install to, just to be safe...and to simplify, since I had SO many HDs w/ SO many partitions (4 internal and 4 external w/ 2-3 partitions each).

If you're at all unsure about what you're doing or if you can afford to lose any data, be very hesitant about messing with stuff.

Thanx man :) i know what your talking about... ;) My Winternals disk is right on my desk, and user it alot :D:P

Hi,May be I have missed something. I asked this question awhile ago but haven't have an answer yet. Just curious, I have installed this Kalyway 1.5.1 for over a week now. I love it. Besides some minor issues it works great. When I installed, by mistake I only checked the vanilla kernel without checking the one with acpi_fix. I am just wondering if it's absolutely necessary to have them both? What does it supposed to fix? Thx

Yea, The best way to do it is to play on an old spare harddrive. Format and partition this drive the way you want it to be on the real drive, make it as close to the real thing as possible. Test out the installation and iron out all glitches. Make sure you write down every step you took. When everything works then do it on the real HD.

Kaly thank you for release

thank you for ansewrs

Dune, no luck with my problem ( post #1175 ).

Maybe connecting my sata to ICH8R (RAID MODE) would be a solution? Or the Raid mode is a problem??

Thanks! :P

i have already replyed to you. your dvd seems defective.burn it again and let the verification to see if there are no sectors defective on your dvd. for the jmicron , put it on AHCI, ICH8R is supported on all mode : enhanced ide to Raid , but here AHCI and RAID choice are similar cos it is the same kext that handles them.

My DVD its ok (verified and installed in another pc) . I already tried with 2 different dvds. But no luck. The only think that i didn't try is to connect my sata disk to ICH8R. (tip: Always at mac osx installer, my drives icons are for external drives. Is this suspicious?)

Dune - thanks for your quick replies!!

no it is not suspicious at all. in AHCi or Raid mode , your Hardrives are "hot plug", so it is ok. you can try on ICH8, it should work.

Furthermore, your hard disk have to be prepared in GUID mode with diskutil.

After that for your config choose:

Vanilla kernel

vanilla ACPI

AZALIA_out

EFI_guid (be sure your partition table is guid , it is very important)

For your gfx , i recommand you to go to the nvinject page.there you will find correct driver for the 8800 GTS

Dune,

Now i see here you recommend that installation had to be GUID...

In previous post i Asked MBR of GUID ,and they told Me MBR...

Now.

I have 1 recovery partition, 1 XP partition and 1 Mac partition...

What i need to do?

GUID or MBR?

Thanx man,

Junior

I recommand GUID if Osx is alone on the hardisk. MBR if you have XP or Vista on the same disk
