Could this be the remedy to the widely-reported Leopard data loss bug? Only developers can know for now, but stay tuned for the next episode of "As the Leopard Turns." That is from Ars. automaton79x Posted November 8, 2007 Share Posted November 8, 2007 Only issue I've seen so far is Safari crashing. It crashed as a 3.x beta on Tiger, and it still seems to crash now (not nearly as often though). Haven't had any other issues since moving to Leopard. Vista will still suck after SP1, I'd wait until SP2. The host process crashes all the time, not to mention a slew of other things. I've yet to see it work without glitching on ANY pc. Leopard is definitely much higher quality, and quick attention to any little things missed is far better than waiting 2 years for a fix on an OS that never should have been launched. From previous experience with 10.0-10.4, I'd say 10.5.1 won't be released 'til late November. 10.4.1 was, for example, released about a month after 10.4. When 10.5.0 is released, work on 10.5.1 starts. _Right_ away. 10.5.1 is released? 10.5.2 starts to be worked on. What do you expect? Did you *REALLY* think they'd work on Leopard until it's final and then wait in HQ twiddling their thumbs until some user finds "a bug to fix" and then solve that one by one? Just think of it the other way 'round if you want to compare to Redmond: SP1 for Vista isn't out yet, about a year after Vista went RTM. And let's face it: People found issues with Vista the minute it was out, too. Let's just be glad Apple doesn't take a year like MS does... Soren Posted November 8, 2007 Share Posted November 8, 2007 Personally I think it shows a commitment to customer-satisfaction on Apple's part that they begin work on fixing bugs right away, rather than waiting and making their users suffer with an inferior OS for over a year before doing anything to fix it like a certain other manufacturer does. I'm looking forward to the update, and good on them. Apple ships all software with known bugs. That's just how development works. They identify what bugs need to be fixed first and when to fix them and they aim for those goals. Things that ended up being too involved to get fixed for the 10.5.0 release and aren't too serious (or things that weren't known at the time) get targeted for a 10.5.1 fix. As soon as 10.5.0 went GM they started working on the other bugs that were targeted for a 10.5.1 release. They likely have a list of bugs that intend to be fixed in 10.5.2 and 10.5.3 as well.
