Oh sorry, should have been a bit more specific

I installed from a SATA DVD-RW to a PATA drive (by the way my computer would only read the first 128Gb of the drive... ?)

My Machine:

XFX 680i SLI LT MB

E6750 (both cores working)

Galaxy 8800GT 512Mb

SATA DVD-RW

PATA HD

DLink DFE-538TX NIC (Not working)

Realtek ALC885 Audio (working)

Well I have managed to get it working w/ my 8800gts card and it is now showing 10.5.1 and both cores. Heck sound is working and I haven't done anything yet for that. However, after updateing to 10.5.1 usb stopped working and ical is no longer working either. What is weird is my usb mouse and keyboard are working fine. Any ideas there? I am searching, but honestly I have not used a mac since about 94! Luckily I am ok with a command line (linux)... and am digging the whole command line thing for osx ;)

@jolly rogers

i don't think you need to enable the lan as to go beyond the setup screen.

i have them disabled and i can boot right into the desktop without problem.

you might want to try other usb keyboard.. or disable legacy support in bios.

@mikethewolf

you need nforceata.kext by medevil

and pcgenehci.kext in drivers sections

@stupidicus

same as above,

you might need that kext, the usb one.

As soon as I enabled the LAN I got past that... I am way past that!!!

-I have 10.5.1 running w/ both cores now and I have my geforce 8800gts recognized and working :blink:

-I fixed the issues with iCal and Mail not working after the update using the ToH CD and Pacifist.

-I installed and got the AppleNForceATA.kext working and all my drives are being seen. There is a slight issue there... I run 3 drives right now, 1 PATA w/ OSX, 1 SATA w/ VISTA, and 1 SATA w/ UBUNTU. When OSX boots, it says it soesn't recognize my UBUNTU drive and asks if I want to ignore, retry, or initialize it. I have been selecting ignore because I "think" initializing it will whipe it. Am I right there? If so, is there a way to tell OSX to not look at that drive when it boots? Disk utility does show it, but the 3 partitions on that drive are grayed out. I am thinking since those partitions are linux swap, /, and /home and in ext3 that OSX can't mount them.

I also am now triple booting using grub!!! It took a bit of figuring out WTF was going on, but I got it finally!!! Thank god for google on that one!

What is not working: USB only works sometimes. It seems if I boot with it hooked up it is fine, or if I boot with -v -legacy it will work. It defintely will work if I use -x. I tried dripping -legacy into the apple.com.plist and it made no difference.

@MUITOMMY: the pcgenehci.kext is the fix for usb drives not working all the time?

ToDo: Fix USB. Figure how to ignore my Linux drive. get a 3rd SATA and get OSX moved over to it. Figure out a wireless solution (currently have a DLink PCI card w/ Atheros chipset on it). Install OSX programs to use!

Having a hard time finding the 'pcgenehci.kext' file

any help muitommmy?

there is a similarly named USB kext?

I am unsure which problem this file will fix, as I'm assuming the medevil kext will help out my ability to only read the first portion of my HD

you are lucky, dude.

by the way, how you boot your sata partition?

I don't, I'm just booting off PATA with access to a SATA drive after boot. The OS is on the PATA drive still, but looking at this thread it seems like some have already had success in doing that.

PS. I'm still having one small problem, seems like my network is still fritzy and sometimes loses connection until I renew the IP lease, it acted similarly with two different network cards so I'm kinda confused as to what could do that. Oh well, Nothings perfect I suppose :)

Mikethewolf:

Are you using NVinject or Natit? I think only one of them can support the 8800 card you have, and I don't remember which can and which can't, might be worth looking into. Also have you edited your info.plist of Nvdaresman with your card's device id as in 'the guide'? I think unless you edit it, it will panic (unless you boot with -x to disable graphics, or move the nvdaresman into a folder so that it's not loaded).

@mikethewolf

i always supspect that there are some problems with the search in the forum, the results is not really accurate ....

and both natit and nvinject should work, you might want to use the installer.

@bluraven

yea.. i'm one of them.

@jollyrogers

yes, it's the drivers for usb 2.0

muitommy the vanilla kernels are not supposed to work on nforce boards

yea, i don't expect it work either.

just have a try, because i know somebody with

prescott can use it successfully..

though i know it's totally different

Thanks for the link. I too was having problems finding it. I did find how to get my wireless working! So, once I am home I will get the wireless setup and get the USB issue fixed. I found a way to mount my ext3 linux partitions, but will prob choose to ingnore them via /etc/fstab noauto. So I will grab another SATA drive today and get this all worked out over the weekend. I found carbon copy and will use it, I was planning on just using dd to image the drive over to the new SATA. I imagine the performance will be tons better once off PATA and on SATA. It isn't "bad" now, but that poor old 20G PATA is screaming!

I wouldn't say it is much faster with SATA than PATA... NForce SATA is not a great product!

now i have leopard on the ide drive...how i can i have it on the sata?? can you tell me the steps to do this? tnx ;D

just google "carbon copy cloner" and run it from a separate OSX install if you can. I had a tiger install on one drive, leopard on another, with a blank sata to end up booting from. Boot to tiger, clone the drive over, and remove both pata drives. Set the sata drive as primary boot drive in bios, see if it works. If not, try this bootfix:http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=63465&st=0&p=449623entry449623

Just make sure you read the instructions before running the code in the boxes... I didn't the first time i tried, and it failed because I didn't unmount the drive first. Try that, and keep us posted.

Carbon Copy Cloner requires it to run from a separate OSX install? Oh well for that idea then. I guess I can boot into windows or linux and use dd to clone the drive.

NM: I just read the help at their site. A block level clone requires both drives to be unmounted, a file level clone apparently can still be done. Regardless, I can just do it from Linux using dd.

well, i suppose it is possible to just copy from drive to drive from the leopard install dvd disk utility... I tried that once, but it was a different setup. try that first, then DD.

Maybe i can get some help in this thread, it seems like everywhere i try to get help in this forum everyone just ignores me. I been trying for a while to get OSX to work but it never does. I've tried the iATKOS1.0i and the Kalyway10.5.1 dvd's but with both i can never reach a leading screen or the installation screen. One time i got up to the grey apple screen and it froze there. Here are my specs:

Mobo: ECS NF650ISLiT-A

GPU: Asus 7600GS

HDD: 1x 120 SATA Seagate, 1x 250 SATA Seagate

RAM: 2gigs OCZ Gold

IDE DVD-RW, and IDE CD-RW

IF any help at all, it would be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance.

someone said kalway works, i'm not sure, i use toh rc2

try boot your dvd with flags: -v -f -legacy cpus=1

p.s. you can't install it in your sata at this moment.

Does anyone have ethernet/wireless working on two cores? it always stops working when i try to download a large file, forcing me to reboot.

10.5.1, 650i, followed the guide

Yes I just got mine working! This is my first post from OSX

I am running a D-link2320 and it has the 5212 chipset in it. I googled atheros 5212 & OSX86 and found a thread that told me what to do. The only thing was under Network Preferences I had to turn off firewire. As soon as I did that my wireless came right up.

Just gotta fix the USB issue and then am off to get the image to the new SATA I bought tonight. I am just gonna use dd from my linux side, it will work just fine I think.

i think that may be my problem then, i had an IDE drive but it just died on me. I thought the drives would be a problem but i wasn't 100% sure. Thanks for the help i guess i'll just have to wait for drivers or till i get a new drive...
