sujaan
How stable is it? As good as 9a466? Or better? Or worse? lol Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/61295-build-9a527/page/5/#findComment-441717 Share on other sites
SquidCombo
IMHO, it's as stable as 9A466. Everything is fast and responsive. However I've only been playing with it for an hour. Gotta do some more later. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/61295-build-9a527/page/5/#findComment-441766 Share on other sites
HackerName
I've had it since the day it came out. So far one KP when watching a DVD. And two GUI locks for no apparent reason. C.J.
I have had it for almost a week and not one crash! even on my 1.83 ghz macbook wit 512 mb of ram! The only complaint I have is when Time Machine takes a backup to my firewire drive it gets laggy for about 10 seconds..that's probably because of my 512 mb of ram and act of habitually having both photoshop and scratch live open every time i turn on my macbook! borisbadenov
I like how 527 works. It does not have the debugger turned on so it does work faster. I like Abbey Road as well. My only gripe with Leopard is that the folder icon SUCK!!!!. Looks like they got them right from KDE2. And the menu bar; has any other major OS come out recently with a menu bar that is semi-transparent and the background that is visible, slightly out of focus...cough..ms..cough. Glad to see that Steve is atop his job. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/61295-build-9a527/page/5/#findComment-441890 Share on other sites

I just hope when the final leopard comes out, Steve will reconsider and let third parties make an icon and folder app where is changeable Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/61295-build-9a527/page/5/#findComment-441895 Share on other sites
HackerName
I totally agree. I just hope when the final leopard comes out, Steve will reconsider and let third parties make an icon and folder app where is changeableWhile I personally think the new folder icons are a huge improvement over the candy coloured pseudo-3d folders we've had so far - my least favourite element of Aqua, I don't see any reason that CandyBar will suddenly stop working And as for the menu bar, I was a staunchly opposed to it in its first iteration - having worked in HCI and usability for years. However, I have little qualms with it in its current new iteration. It is perfectly usable, and the slight translucency does not get in the way the slightest. SquidCombo
I think 9a527 can be used as main OS until leopard comes out. In this build, i also noticed that if your background is dark, the menu bar stays visible, which is nice compare to 9A466. Everything seems to be pretty solid and responsive, seems very close to the final build. kevnaca
I've just got it installed today. My first opinion is yes you can very well use it as your main OS until a newer version, but there are still minor incompatibilities. I was pleasantly surprised how polished this version looks. The install process looks visually better with the grass wallpaper ( yeah it's still there but only during the install) than the bland grey. Overall I rate this version excellent. I can imagine this is the same experience we'll have when the release version hits. I can imagine this is the same experience we'll have when the release version hits.I certainly hope not. Sure, it's fine for your main OS as long as you don't mind all the bugs. But it's far from finished. Between crashes and incompatabilities, FrontRow is just a half-baked hack off the AppleTV. No keyboard control, takes forever to load (although it's much more responsive in menus), won't mark podcasts as read, has no return to previously played point in movies, fast forward and back are wonky (it's much less fine grained), problems with ID-tags in TV Shows and Podcasts and won't generate thumbnails for third party codecs. I think kevnaca was referring to the operating system itself, rather than one sub application of it. I still wouldn't be surprised if front row was abandoned entirely in the final build of leopard. But yes, the hacked-up apple tv that is front row 2 needs a huge amount of work. hazkid
Oh. My. God. 9A527 is the best OS I have ever used. I had to do a clean install. Restoring was a bit of a hassle, but I accomplished it in about an hour. I now am exploring various features and have only found one "issue". iMovie 08 still crashes. What a surprise. But I love the new QT. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/61295-build-9a527/page/5/#findComment-442531 Share on other sites

Prawker
Lets try to keep this thread clean people, Me and all the other mods have been scrambling over this thread since it was started to keep it clean of torrent links, or any hints as to where you can obtain leopard. We're being nice and keeping this thread open, but if I find another torrent link or anything of the likes in here I'm going to close this thread. -Prawker Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/61295-build-9a527/page/5/#findComment-443818 Share on other sites
